Default Pelican - March Into The Sea (2005)

Day 6 of 100

Pelican - March Into The Sea

This one just kind of stumbled into my Spotify recommendations, and when I checked it out, I was surprised to find that it only has 2 tracks. Though it is an EP and it does come in at around 32 minutes so that's still impressive given that it is only 2 tracks.

Wiki describes this as an instrumental metal band so right off the bat I think I'm already going to like it. Upon turning on the first track "March Into The Sea", I can already tell I'm going to like this. It's kind of like getting just the instrumentals of bands like Opeth or Porcupine Tree. It is always interesting when bands decide to just focus on instrumentals because you kind of grow a new appreciation for it. It's why I like it when some bands release solely instrumental versions of albums that they've released. It's just cool to hear everything without the vocals sometimes.

While this album is only 2 tracks like I mentioned, as far as I can tell, the tracks remain interesting enough and fun to listen to enough to get through the 20 minute starter track. Hell, I've been listening to it while I type this and it's certainly a vibe. It's certainly nothing I've never heard but it's definitely something I would love throwing on in the background and just kind of letting it take me on its journey. Yet another reason why I like instrumental focused tracks. More focus on your imagination and what the song is doing for you personally. It's a big reason why I love post-rock as well or any instrumental genre for that matter.

Again, 2 tracks. But man, this album gives off very good vibes and great for a Saturday morning listen.

Default Ed Harrison - Neotokyo (2009)

Day 7 of 100

Ed Harrison - Neotokyo

Oh man, got some really good vibes going on here. And I was already halfway through the album before I went to search the album for this post, come to find out it's a soundtrack for a video game titled NeoTokyo. One of which I have never heard of or played. But god damn, especially considering this was released in 2009, this is fantastic. I love video game music and often times will binge listen to nothing but video game music. This just honestly sounds like a really cool sci fi electronic album and the fact that it's for a video game just makes it that much more of a vibe. Cool way to bring in a Sunday.

Default Infinity Shred - Long Distance (2016)

Day 8 of 100

Infinity Shred - Long Distance

Bandcamp: https://infinityshred.bandcamp.com/a...ong-distance-2

I had to listen to this band again after I had heard the previous album that I talked about here already. This'll be the first time so far that I've listened to the artist again for this thread. And man, I am not disappointed. Infinity Shred are quickly becoming a regular listen for me which is really neat, because before the existence of this thread, I had never even heard of them. But yeah, just let your ears do the talking on this one. The first track titled Choir VI is incredible and really sets the mood for the whole album which is just fantastic. I love this. This album alone will probably be a repeat listen. Thankfully they have quite a bit on Spotify so the journey has just begun.

Spoiler for video: Infinity Shred - Choir VI:

High octane synthwavey goodness.

Best track on the album imo:

Wolf and Raven - The Heist

Default Au4 - On: Audio (2006)

Day 10 of 100

Au4 - On: Audio

Bandcamp: https://au4music.bandcamp.com/album/on-audio

We are 1/10th of the way through this journey and I've once again come up to an album that I wouldn't really listen to again under any other circumstance. The first track is decent but then as the album goes along, it doesn't really hold me.

If you like that, you might want to check out their album The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw. It has a longer version of "March Into The Sea" on it and is overall a really great album.

Hell yes, thanks Janz. These guys have been great so far so they'll probably be a very regular listen for me. Really enjoyed what I got from March Into The Sea so that is very exciting.

Default Summary of Day 1-10

Summary of Day 1-10

For every 10 albums that I talk about in here, I'm going to do a quick summary to identify which albums or artist I will return to, and which ones I may not return to. Quick and simple. Green means I will most likely listen to more, and Red means I will not. Grey is somewhere in the middle.

Day 1: M4 - Faunts
Day 2: Lucid Planet - II
Day 3: Infinity Shred - EP 001 (Gnar Dream)
Day 4: Monkey3 - The 5th Sun
Day 5: Junius - Reports From The Threshold of Death
Day 6: Pelican - March Into The Sea
Day 7: Ed Harrison - Neotokyo
Day 8: Infinity Shred - Long Distance
Day 9: Wolf and Raven - Renegades
Day 10: Au4 - On: Audio

Default Pelican - What We All Come To Need (2009)

Day 11 of 100

Pelican - What We All Come To Need

These guys are quickly and wonderfully becoming one of my favorite new artists that I've started listening to. Honestly, they pull off everything that I want in music. Just overall good vibes and great sounding tracks. This album in particular is really great. I listened to it on my way home from work yesterday and I kept thinking "this sounds like a combination of Tool and The Sword if you just took the instrumentals and stripped the vocals". Come to find out with further research, the band is typically in the post-rock / stoner rock style, so that certainly makes sense. I'll probably be talking about this band at some point again in this thread, but for now, so far I've listened to two separate albums by Pelican, and have loved both. Here's my favorite track off this album:

Spoiler for video:

This one is also quite good and I can easily understand why it's one of their more popular tracks:

Default Hatebreed - The Concrete Confessional (2016)

Day 12 of 100

Hatebreed - The Concrete Confessional

I realized that I had never heard Hatebreed before and when I listened to this album, I realized I don't really like Hatebreed that much. Not that they're bad, just not for me. I may give this another shot some time though because it does remind me of Slayer and I do like Slayer. There's definitely potential here but I'm in no hurry to discover that yet.

It could also have been due to me just not being in the mood for this type thing, so like I said, there's potential for redemption.

Spoiler for full album:
