SIEKIERA


Siekiera means Axe (or Hatchet ) in polish.
They where a band formed in 1983 in Puławy (a city that people in Poland know where's at, but know nothing about it). Their lineup went through all kinds of changes between the creation of the band and their first (and only) record.

At first it was a hardcore punk band – that hadn't released no singles/records/whatsoever. They became very famous all over Poland, after their 1984 show at the Jarocin Festival.
Apparently there's some people to this day who remember the show.

I'm not interested in that **** though.

That very year that Siekiera had their big breakthrough at the festival, their vocalist left the band (due to "creative differences" [meaning that the guitarist wrote all the songs and lyrics] to join Armia (a band I'll be covering some other time).

And so without that vocalist Siekiera began to drift more into the emerging New Wave/Post Punk scene that was happening at the moment.

That's where they really began to shine.

The album "Nowa Aleksandria" (The New Alexandria) was released in 1986.



They got boo'ed off of the stage in Jarocin 1985
(the organisers stopped the concert, because the crowd was getting so aggressive and upset, due to Siekiera presenting a new/alternate kind of repertoire – a bit like Dylan turning from roots-folk to rock'n'roll).

What a bunch of ****ing morons were the people back then.
