Alright, gonna keep the intro to this thread short for now, might change it again in the future.

With the rising of underground techno over the past few years I've noticed a small, but dedicated community that doesn't extend much beyond into general music forums and facebook groups, but I want to change that. This thread will post cream of the crop dance tracks that are a cut above standard techno, and hopefully get people into the genre and community.

Imma' start with a new release, but oh lord does it hit the classic vibes with trance sprinkled in. From Copenhagen and its "Fast Techno" scene comes a duo from ground zero (formerly of Count 0, har har). Hard hitting, and melodic.

Raime

I've been coming back to this track a lot, and I've heard it in two mixes recently. It's hard hitting, has a great vocal sample that goes between clean and Genocide Organ mangled, and just a little bit of atmosphere. Apparently the sampled vocals are in Coptic (first guess was an Arabic language when I first heard it), and the title means Red Sea in English.



More industrialish shi' that will make your ears pop. The side chaining with the vocal sample and that brutal kick really mess with my ears when I'm using studio headphones. This release also has a really good remix by Under Black Helmet. So the whole thing is really worth checking out.

Not sure if this qualifies as Club, but it's bangin. What I always think of when I hear club/dance/techno/house stuff, but I'm really not familiar with much else.

Itoh Takaaki Killing

Itoh has been in the scene awhile, and seems to be a bridge to Japan and Europe in terms of sound, especially this period. Very much a Regis inspired track (Penetration era), with a tad more progression. For lovers of the Birmingham sound.



The Empire Line Træt av lagen, træt av Systembolaget

Nina Kraviz played this in one of her sets, but this version is more complete, and has some noise added to the background to give it a rougher edge. Hearing this in The Empire Line's Boiler Room set really lit the place up after a half hour of thumping bass kicks and Merzbow levels of white noise. That trance synth line is made for ecstasy.


I guess I'm more partial to the Berghain, Bassiani, Tresor kind of stuff. This sounds more like EDM you'd see at a festival, not bad or anything, just not normally my thing.

I figured I'd give EBM the spotlight for a bit, as it's in my blood and my love for it dates back to my mom and her blasting stuff like Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb when I was probably too young to know any better. Last year my mom and I actually saw BOTH Nitzer Ebb and Front 242 together, and they still hit hard and have dialed in heavier versions of their catalogue due to the advancements in DAWs and HiFi equipment.


The Horrorist Wire to The Ear

Old skool EBM vibes, with lyrics you'd shouting with a group people in leather fetish gear in a dark club. A minimalist short attack and decay synth line with a 4/4 kick and short spurts of noise. WIRE TO THE EAUH WIRE TO THE EAUH.


Schwefelgelb Es Zieht Mich

A more varied track, but has all the hallmarks of German dance music. It's a bit of a modern classic that see a lot of DJ sets, but it still slaps and was one of my favorite favorite tracks a few years ago. The 12" sells for a pretty penny too, so I'd probably be a little scared to actually DJ with it if I had it.
