好きじゃないと言えない
好きじゃないと言えない Or, "Probably Not a Good Idea" (I feel this need to feel bad.) Lemon Kittens - ...The Big Dentist https://img.discogs.com/kmyCK3vdpXFZ...-5564.jpeg.jpg UK 1982 Post-Punk Thoughts: RYM calls this post-punk, but there's a lot more going on here. The first track is an 11-minute experimental exploration with avant-folk elements woven throughout. More post-punk-like sounds ensue, but it's like it's all been wrapped up in bubble wrap. When the bubble wrap comes off, you realize someone's FedEx'd you something discordant and unpleasant, which is just how you want to feel at this moment. Release info: Released on vinyl in 1982 (Illuminated / JAMS 131, UK) and reissued on CD in 1994 (Biter of Thorpe / bot 131-05, UK). Spoiler for Table of Contents:

Hanatarashi - 2: "Maw" https://lastfm-img2.akamaized.net/i/...4c2f37adc9.jpg Japan 1988 Noise, Sound Collage Thoughts: This album cut my face in half, discarded one half, copied the other, and glued the identical halves back together. Then I sat down and drew a unicorn. It looked like a vortex. Release info: Released on vinyl in 1988 (Alchemy / ARLP 018, Japan). |

I've been looking for this but can't find it digitally online anywhere. This is The New Blockaders' and Vagina Dentata Organ's 2012 collaboration, ----------. That's right. The album is titled "----------", making it pretty much impossible to find, if indeed it even exists out there. What makes this rare item harder to find is the fact that it's a handmade numbered edition. Only a very few were ever made. (Tochnit Aleph / TA106, Germany) |
Dreaming Together - 4 Edens and a World of Shells https://e.snmc.io/i/300/w/493e9893db...bb953c/2567962 France 1988 Dark Ambient Thoughts: This is incredibly lonely music. It's like operating heavy mining machinery on a deserted planet where it always rains and it's always night. You've got echo-location devices you have to lower on cold chains into dark caverns. And you're the last miner left. You keep working because it's what you've always done. Release info: Released on vinyl in 1988 (Odd Size / OS 05, France). |

RYM's got the album name messed up, then. But more importantly, I was hoping someone like you would reply with the info! Cheers! :)
The New Blockaders - TNB / VDO https://img.discogs.com/Q15UrhdA_qSa...-8131.jpeg.jpg UK 2012 Musique concrète Thoughts: This one made me feel so bad. It's got no genre tags, but I'd call it Musique concrète, because it sounds like a couple plumbers who failed to fix my garbage disposal, and having realized they'd failed, decide to make a racket and feign work in order to charge me more. Quite a distasteful trip down the noise toilet. Release info: Released on handmade, numbered edition vinyl in 2012 (Tochnit Aleph / TA106, Germany). 40 copies. |
Yeah, I don’t know what they have there,
but the album and performers can be seen as a mess - but I’ve been used to this kind of thing with special packaged noise since the early 80s. So you know: the album is one short performance - only from TNB. The included artwork is from VDO. That doesn’t mean that VDO didn’t perform at that same show. They did, and released their performance as Allegory of Cosmic Violence. |
I thank you for all this information. I've gone and submitted a correction at RYM based on this knowledge.

Strafe für Rebellion - 5 https://img.discogs.com/m32XP-pctrFe...99482.jpeg.jpg Germany 1988 Industrial Thoughts: Like a girl singing whimsically at the heart of a great machine. It's only a promise of life at first, but her EKG laugh kickstarts the heartbeat and gets the machinery turning. A little Japanese traditional folk soothes the machine back to sleep. Release info: Released on vinyl in 1988 (UN 06, Austria). |
Cranioclast – A Con Cristal https://i.pinimg.com/736x/23/62/89/2...6388028d3e.jpg Germany 1987 Dark Ambient Thoughts: I'd call this Tribal Ambient, too, what with the pounding tribal drums and the almost ritualistic vocalizations surrounding the centerpiece percussion. This is a summoning. Release info: Released on vinyl in 1987 (CoC / CoC 01, Germany). |
The Hafler Trio - A Thirsty Fish https://lastfm-img2.akamaized.net/i/...7b97c9812d.jpg UK 1987 Dark Ambient, Musique concrète Thoughts: Anesthetic for the brain, then locked inside with the loonies. Guy on one side of me is humming, the other screaming. And they seem each to know when the other is going to start / stop, jarring me and enjoying their little game. Dial tones and bleating lambs. This album dies with a phone call. Release info: Released on double LP vinyl in 1987 (Touch / TO:9, UK), then on CD in 1992 (Touch / KUT 6, US), then again as a limited edition double CD in 2005 (Korm Plastics / paragraph 11, subsection 3, Netherlands). |
H.N.A.S. & Mieses Gegonge - Abwassermusik https://www.art-into-life.com/data/a...001_b6c555.jpg Germany 1985 Experimental Thoughts: Alice in Wonderland if Alice was Dante and Wonderland was Hell. Go from cavern to cavern, observe and/or suffer. Not the ear-rape some of these other records have been, but just as disturbing. Release info: Released on limited edition (500 copies) vinyl in 1985 (Psychout / Psypro 005, Sweden) and re-issued on CD with bonus tracks in 2002 (Dom / DOM CD 77-16, Germany). |
Déficit des années antérieures - Action and Japanese Demonstration https://img.discogs.com/_9IUxcNpCUni...-8813.jpeg.jpg France 1982 Minimal Wave, Experimental Thoughts: Show me a villain who hath called Japan "the land of the rising sun", and I am sent to be revenged upon him. Either they got slopes to self-parody their tribal tones, or these frogs are ever-so slightly racist. Either way, I approve. Release info: Released on limited edition vinyl (1500 copies) in 1982 (Illusion / IP 010, France). Comes with a screenprinted cardboard cover with hand-made background, so each copy is unique. Then re-issued with bonus tracks on CD in 2008 (Fractal / Fractal 333, France). |
Tolerance - Anonym http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y0E-XdM-i9...1600/cover.jpg Japan 1979 Minimal Wave, Experimental Thoughts: I am untouched by this one both positively and negatively. There's just not enough here to form an opinion. I guess the spoken words parts have a kind of quiet desperation to them, and that fits the Js to a tee. This is what you're stuck with when you miss last train. Release info: Released on vinyl in 1979 (Vanity / vanity 0004, Japan) and then re-issued on vinyl in 2012 (VANITY 004LP, USA). |
Christian Death - Ashes https://img.discogs.com/GAcsAK9xnKA1...-9817.jpeg.jpg USA Gothic Rock, Deathrock 1985 Thoughts: All right. There are those big 80s drums. This is the most accessible thing I've heard so far in this listening project, and "accessible" isn't always a compliment. In this case, it's a code-word for "kinda boring". However, the freaky female yelling in spots redeems it a bit. A lot of repetition on this record. The dark cabaret moments are the best. Release info: Released on vinyl in 1985 in four countries... USA: Nostradamus / IRD 014 France: L'Invitation au Suicide / SD7 (gatefold) Germany: Normal / Normal 15 Japan: King / K25P563... then it was re-issued on CD three times, the last being the anniversary edition in 2012. |

'cause I don't have email notifications on for PMs. Anti-records that I have, that are flat, are mixed in randomly with regular stock which is also randomly mixed together, so if I come across it, I'll let you know. I have quite a few that need to be stored separately from "regular" albums. They're more like art objects: a glue record or something encased in plates of steel or wrapped in macrogrit sandpaper or cassettes wrapped in vinyl or something else that doesn't make it flat or desirable to have next to another album (such as the one covered in moss that should arrive any day now). http://stasick.org/010301.jpg |
Looking forward to it, if you can find it. And as always, I greatly appreciate you taking the time!

FWIW, the only "weird" vinyl I have is F#A#∞. The last groove is locked, so the ambient sound just repeats in a soothing drone until you pick up the needle. That's why I love falling asleep to this record.
|
My only weird one also has a double groove--the A side of Renaldo and the Loaf's Songs for Swinging Larvae is a loop of them saying "boom boom crash crash", which is also what kicks off the B side.
For the unintentionally weird, I have an Anakrid record that's warped that I think sounds pretty cool with the needle coming off and back onto the record. |

One clean copy and another copy that I scratched up by walking down Clark St. while mostly rubbing it up against the sides of buildings (there were occasional "rubbings" on sidewalks as well). Then, I would play it in-store for customers. When it wasn't "in use," it would be mounted on the wall as a clock with numbers stuck on it. I remember a guy named Clay Grossman who insisted that he find something to wrap the album in. He was so paranoid that he was going to ruin it. |
I feel like I've stepped into a bizarre yet interesting world.

Déficit des années antérieures - Aventures en Afrique https://img.discogs.com/sJj6EHdMPT1z...-4373.jpeg.jpg France 1980 Experimental Thoughts: Very short, lo-fi, and tribal with droning, chanting vocals. Release info: Released on vinyl in a handpainted cardboard box in 1980 (Illusion / IP 005, France). |
Déficit des années antérieures - Bacterial Voice Epidemia / E.B.V. https://img.discogs.com/jCKSGyzyL5lx...62328.jpeg.jpg France 1980 Experimental Thoughts: Have you ever had someone stand there and scream at you with all his might, desperately trying to tell you something? I mean, weeping and praying, and you know he's got something really important to say--it's vital that you understand!--but you can't understand a word hes saying? The pounding drums and the relentless reverb are chasing him down the well of his own vocals. Wait...is that German? Release info: Released on vinyl in 1980 (Illusion / IP 004, France). |
The Hafler Trio - Bang! - An Open Letter https://img.discogs.com/sA4Ma8zgCuIm...54809.jpeg.jpg UK 1984 Sound Collage, Plunderphonics Thoughts: If If you're If you're going going to going to write write an write an open open letter open letter to to the to the world world about world about contemporary contemporary political contemporary political problems problems problems problems problems problems problems problems problems problems problems, it's it's best it's best to to make to make sure sure your sure your message message is message is clear clear clear clear clear. It It took It took a a long a long time time for time for me me to me to craft craft this craft this. Sometimes when I'm wanking, I watch myself in the mirror, trying new techniques, which I then interview myself about, so I can wank while I wank. Release info: Released on vinyl in 1984 (Doublevision / DVR 4, UK) and then re-issued on CD in 1994 (Touch / KUT 1, UK). |
California Roll My friend came over today and brought with him one of his recent songs. It's a short, simple synth-driven song about all the different kinds of sandwiches. During his visit, we talked about gaming and music, and as far as our music topics went, I introduced him to the concept of the anti-record. Since he was fascinated by the idea, I asked him if I could turn his song into an anti-song. He gave me permission, so I opened the file in Audacity and grabbed a d20, rolling the die to randomly select effects to be applied. I also used the d20 and percentile dice to randomly assign values to variable fields. This is what we came up with. The vocals kick in halfway through. |

Le Forte Four - Bikini Tennis Shoes https://i.imgur.com/bcJckdX.jpg USA 1975 Free Improvisation, Sound Collage Thoughts: As founders of LAFMS, these guys and gals put the "free" in free music. Most of this album is composed of fuckaround tracks that are less than a minute, mostly involving snippets of conversation or melody. There's even some belching. Release info: Released on limited edition vinyl of 200 copies with hand-pasted front and back cover in 1975 (LAFMS / LAFMS 1, USA), then re-issued on numbered edition vinyl again in 2017 (États-Unis / etat04, USA). |
Agent Orange - Bloodstains https://img.discogs.com/PHTfcqno8sz1...-2364.jpeg.jpg USA 1980 Surf Punk, Punk Rock Thoughts: Pessimistic, misanthropic, and apathetic? Sounds like MB-core. Release info: Released on vinyl 7" in 1980 (n/a / 245-T-1, USA) |
Various Artists - Born Out of Dreams https://img.discogs.com/PVlfEENC34Wc...223488.jpg.jpg From All Over 1985 Industrial Thoughts: Someone plucking something out on the piano to comfort me while I get a root canal. My consciousness pulls back from the event, only to snap back with full force. Like this, I oscillate through the guts of the machine. Oh fuck! The dentist is German, and his lovely assistant is singing to me, "He who lays down with dogs gets up with fleas!" I want to correct her, but I have a mouth full of sharp metal. Release info: Released on vinyl in 1985 (Frux / FruxLP 01, UK). |
Destroy All Monsters - 1974 - 1976 https://lastfm-img2.akamaized.net/i/...7e43787616.jpg USA 1994 Experimental Rock, Noise Rock, Experimental Thoughts: Aliens, refugees from nuclear war on their own planet, land on Earth and, like all immigrants, bring their degenerate music with them, which they teach to us. When they see that Earthlings do it better than they do, they return to their irradiated, barren world, willing to take their chances there than among a species who can make music like this. Release info: Released as a box set on CD in 1994 (Ecstatic Peace! / E#47, USA) and the re-issued on CD in 2009 (Compound Annex / Compound Annex #17, #18, #19, USA). |
Thoughts: Collecting and racking abandoned shopping carts scattered across an empty parking lot near a droning highway. Release info: Released on a limited edition single-side 7" vinyl in 1996 (Aeroplane – AR20, UK). |
Destroy All Monsters - Bored / You're Gonna Die https://img.discogs.com/rIXVaq_TibHO...25637.jpeg.jpg USA 1978 Punk Rock Thoughts: Brody's gf who cries in the bathroom while he plays video games because she's got nothing better to do than fuck him. I wonder if some elevator sex will sort her out. Release info: Released on vinyl 7" in 1978 (IDBI / EEEE1, USA) and then across the pond on a colored vinyl 7" in 1979 (Cherry Red / CHERRY 3, UK). |
The Hafler Trio - Brain Song https://img.discogs.com/KiW-_romXKQf...39388.jpeg.jpg UK 1986 Sound Collage, Dark Ambient Thoughts: The perfect soundtrack to a shitty morning where you get a flat tire and all the trains are delayed. Feel worse, man! Release info: Released as a numbered edition vinyl in 1986 (Touch / T33:5, UK). |
Musique Concret - Bringing Up Baby https://img.discogs.com/OVSe-iIH-OrE...-6794.jpeg.jpg UK 1981 Industrial, Tape Music, Musique concrète, Noise Thoughts: Like most things on this list, the music ain't my thing, but the album cover fascinates me. It's like a painting of a sonogram, where the baby is safe in the womb, protected from all the noise of the world. Release info: Released on colored vinyl in 1981 (United Dairies / UD010, UK) and then re-issued on CD in 2004 (Fractal / Fractal 026, France). |
Lemon Kittens - Cake Beast https://lastfm-img2.akamaized.net/i/...91f10b6b97.jpg UK 1980 Post-Punk, Minimal Wave Thoughts: I had no idea a rose could be the terror of terrors and the horror of horrors. Battery low. Battery low. Release info: Released on vinyl in 1980 (United Dairies / UD07, UK). |
Various Artists - Can You Hear Me? Music From the Deaf Club https://img.discogs.com/7lrETnbBUtvj...-9317.jpeg.jpg USA 1980 Punk Rock, Post-Punk Thoughts: The Deaf Club was a tiny place in San Francisco for actually deaf people started in the 1930s. I wonder if the people in the audience were actually the regular deaf patrons. I like to think so, as these punk rockers make their statements, but I know that the place was just a music venue like many others. This is an incredible live album and a must-listen for any punk fan (which isn't me). Release info: Released on vinyl in 1980 (Optional / OPT-LP-001, USA). |
Christian Death - Catastrophe Ballet https://img.discogs.com/Q7SYH_VsSjcd...-7723.jpeg.jpg USA 1984 Deathrock, Gothic Rock Thoughts: Not painful enough! UGH. Release info: Released originally on vinyl in 1984 (L'Invitation au Suicide / SD 5, France) and then re-issued on CD and vinyl at various times around the world. |
