So instead of creating a new journal, I'm just going to change the title of this one and expand from here. Reason I haven't been writing in this ever, besides the fact that I have a problem sticking to anything, is that I've been working at the record shop six days a week plus my own online business.

I had an idea today to post albums I'm playing in the shop. I'm pretty much always spinning a record. Our building is a old train station made of stone so the radio signal sucks and our CDs are terrible. The bluetooth sucks too so we stay old fashioned and spin records.

From now on, this is where I'll be posting shop records. It'll be a nice window in what I do for a living or at least what I'm listening to on a daily basis.

Without further ado...

Parliament
Funkentelechy vs. the Placebo Syndrome

Got some Parliament records in recently. We've been on a streak where every funk album that comes in has been trashed so this record being in good condition is a nice touch. Playing it LOUD.

Bootsy's Rubber Band
Stretchin' Out in Bootsy's Rubber Band

Might as well continue this funk fest.

I often think I would probably love funk, but I forget to actually go and check any out. Gonna listen to these two for sure. The cover artwork alone sells them easily

Sonic Youth
Sister

Switching things up. We generally play a lot of 80's/90's indie rock/alt rock in the store. This is a censored re-issue we have that came out a few months after the release. Not my favorite Sonic Youth record but still nice to play on a gray day.

Listen to everything by Parliament and Funkadelic and go from there.

TBH I think he'd hate the alternate prog of Funkadelic.

Prog is dead inside. Funk is full of life. I think I'll get something out of it - maybe even a lot. I'll find out later this evening. Right now I wanna finish the album that's spinning on my stereo.

Some funk isn't black prog but some is. Funkadelic can most definitely be black prog.

MicShazam 09-07-2018 01:48 PM

Listening to this Funkadelic album right now and I'm totally on board with this.

Maybe white people should just hand prog over to black people and let them do it right, then.
