Don’t forget the work he did for Mingus. And Oliver Nelson’s The Blues and the Abstract Truth. Dolphy did great stuff as a leader but I don’t think judging him by every record issued under his name is the right way to gauge Dolphy’s contributions to jazz.
Case in point, this reissue of Where?. Dolphy is playing his role beside Carter and also making space for Mal Waldron who was an idiosyncratic (and great) musician himself.
