Isn't Kamasi Washington actually legit jazz though? Can't remember what it sounds like, but I did check out an album of his a few years ago. I know he's the only jazz album Antony Fantano and Pitchfork have probably ever raved about - which might be annoying to a jazz fan when they ignore everything else that comes out in the genre - but that doesn't mean it's bad, does it? Seemed quite far from Norah Jones level pap to me.

I'm probably an even bigger jazz newb and I call this great. I'm sure that someone who listens to Davis and Coltrane all day can find a way to scoff at it:

Kamasi Washington makes solid spiritual jazz but he is constantly touted as jazz's saviour and a crazy innovative genius and that is indeed hard to deal with as someone who's listened to more than 5 jazz albums.

That is as far as I go with Kamasi. I like his stuff. He isn't a new Jazz God.
