Arnold Schoenberg

Over a hundred years ago Schoenberg birthed the musical universe that encompassed everything until electronics. Even up to the present, there has been no artistic revolution that has been able to move traditional instruments into a post Schoenberg reality. That's not to say there hasn't been movements and genres with branches and leaves and seeds. Social scientists marvel at our stupendous velocity when it comes to change. Oohing and aahing aside, when it comes to the sound, we still wander in Schoenberg's forest. For all we know, the era of Schoenberg may outlive humanity. Perhaps, the patterns of non-electronic music will always be pre-Schoenberg or a plant in his forest. Even though his ideas have been taken to their conclusions there may not be anywhere else to go.
