I don't know but he's not that funny.

That's the point

He speaks the way that Neapolitan types

So definitively unfunny that it circles around and becomes more hilarious than anything you could get from legit jokes

When an artist like David Byrne does comedy it should be taken within context of everything else he does. You don’t watch it in isolation separate from his other art but as a little subtext of his everything which is undeniably unassailable

Solar Symmetries
Album by Alvar, Michael Idehall, Nordvargr, and Synapscape

https://ant-zen.bandcamp.com/album/solar-symmetries

This a solid 2016 release that will be enjoyed by fans of Throbbing Gristle. Hamburger Lady is probably listening to it right now.

Il
Studio album by Jean-Michel Blais

https://jeanmichelblais.bandcamp.com...deluxe-edition

Blais takes simple melodic structure and runs with it until it washes over you like rain. The pieces get bigger and more cascading but he never stretches so far into minimalism or really anything experimental enough to push the boundaries past the comfort level of the initial theme. While it may be a conservative approach it also speaks to discipline and to the truth that this is a mature composer who’s comfortable in his musical skin. If you got some space in your music listening world for some more solo piano I suspect you’ll be rewarded if you give this a spin and careful listen.

Dust
Album by Oaktree

Sad wintery music ambient with some beats. Although it’s obviously a totally different sound there’s a feeling like this could be a literal reincarnation of The New Lost City Ramblers. Like if I used to be a horse that could write. Saying I love you on a long distance telephone call and packing things that belong to someone who isn’t returning. It’s a bitch of a thing for a blind woman to man a kiosk.

Hella Personal Film Festival
Studio album by Open Mike Eagle and Paul White

Two primary characteristics define this record:

1) a smooth 1970’s style production
2) a humble honest friendly approach to rapping

The production is fantastic. It’s very pleasant and smooth. It’s not really disco but it has the pinnacle of recorded sound that reminds me of The Bee Gees and Fleetwood Mac. I have no idea how it was recorded digital or analog but it certainly has the warm glow of the best of the pre-digital days. The rapping is also warm and inviting. The bringing together of these elements works extraordinarily well.

Highs / Lows
Album by Monkier

https://monkier.bandcamp.com

I thought there was a contingent of support for Monkier on MB but the search function says different. Monkier mashes up smooth fusion jazz instrumentation and hip hop beats and rapping. As a fan, it’s an inexplicable sin to enjoy jazz or hip hop in isolation. Love and marriage/ horse and carriage- you can’t have one without the other. Except, agonizingly this rule doesn’t seem to apply to musicians. Why? Oh why can’t good jazz meet good hip hop? It always sounds like some vanilla bull**** arranged by a bunch of limp wristed music majors for some second rate Spike Lee wannabe film soundtrack. It’s ****ing always the same. P ussy a ss jazz meets Mr. Lackluster Rapper who thinks he’s artistic while serving a product that ignores Coltrane. Learn your history, bitches.

Alive
Album by Amenra

Folk music with hints of metal and a very weak male vocalist who can’t carry a tune. I can be very forgiving of vocals that lack traditional features that suggest talent but this is music just plain needs someone who can sing but it ain’t got it.

I will admit that I might be missing something. If anyone has any contrary opinion or thinks I should adjust my approach to how I listen to this I’m all ears. I want to like this tbh.

Tooth
Album by Raime

https://blackesteverblack.bandcamp.com/album/tooth

Late 80’s vibe. Think Sonic Youth’s debut remixed for On-U Sound and/or World Domination Enterprises. This sound was great then and it’s great now. Hits the ****ing spot.
