Just that I'm glad you took the time to listen to Grey because it's honestly one of my favorite things that I've recorded. It's not perfect by any means but it really gives what I want it to give and that's all I really wanted out of it. It was a fun album to make and I'm excited to make more.

OK

Thanks to Kiiii AKA Cats With Hats one of our most creative and talented resident composers here on MB. It’s been an honor to have you share about your creative process here on the lamplighterfreakfighter journal.

For those who are interested you can listen to Grey here:

I highly recommend it. It’s an excellent work of art.

Run the Jewels 3

This is a fantastic review:

https://consequenceofsound.net/2016/...-the-jewels-3/

I’m not going to deny that this an exciting album that sets an outstanding pace and has hooks you can hang your hat on. But it’s still just so stubbornly dry. It never surprises you. The sonic landscapes are really cool but it never melts and redesigns itself as something new while holding the hook. The hypnotic vibe gets freaky but sometimes hip hop like this needs to transform but this is too conservative. It’s like they’re afraid that greatness would be mistaken for silliness. Push. Boundaries. Further. And don’t use Kamasi Washington. Yuck.

Dredge Portals
Album by God Body Disconnect

https://cryochamber.bandcamp.com/album/dredkgKe-portals
A dark ambient concept album about a man living paralyzed and in a coma in an apparently dreary hospital room.

The vocals force you to go all in. The spoken word is passable but I’d prefer something you just read yourself.

The music, however, is fantastic

Blood Moon
Album by Blue Foundation, Drop the Gun, Erika Spring, Findlay Brown, Jonas Bjerre, and Mark Kozelek

https://bluefoundationofficial.com/#river

Well constructed soft rock shoe gaze pop from a Danish dude, Tobias Wilner, who apparently networks in Brooklyn recruiting whoever he can to juice up his project.

Tobias Wilner

Honestly, he does a damn good job at it. There’s something very easy going about Denmark. Not that I really know never having been there but this fits in my Denmark box of hey this is cool because it’s from Denmark. Like a more self-assured Japan. Recommended.

The Humming Tapes by Cities Last Broadcast

https://cryochamber.bandcamp.com/alb...-humming-tapes

https://heathenharvest.org/2016/07/0...hosts-of-time/

Dark ambient

Have you ever been hit hard by pneumonia?

Or eaten deep fried pork chops?

Or gotten frostbite?

Do you have hope?

Have you ever been told, by someone who was completely serious, that the customer is always right?

Do you like the song Mind Games?

Goodbye To Language
Album by Daniel Lanois

This is one of the many records that makes me really believe in the exceptionality of 2016. Pitchfork has a nice review here: https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums...e-to-language/

Steel guitar in a gorgeous ambient setting.

Besides the info on Pitchfork and Wiki I’ll add something I think is significant. Lanois played a huge role in creating Neil Young’s Le Noise which I consider one of Young’s best records. And I ****ing LOVE Neil Young so that’s no small statement. I very highly recommend checking out both these records. The one I’m reviewing officially is an absolute gem.

1 by Off World

https://offworld.bandcamp.com/album/1-3

1 is an exceptional experimental synth record. Kiiii if you read this I suspect that you in particular will love this. It has some of the endearing qualities of early electronic music but it’s also influenced by Eno and Tangerine Dream. The web presence is quite small so I imagine this band has room to grow. I recommend this to anyone who’s into early electronic, dark ambient, or experimental music of any kind. Great record!

Statea
Album by Murcof and Vanessa Wagner

https://infine-rec.bandcamp.com/album/statea

Mexican composer Murcof

French pianist Venessa Wagner

These are interesting and excellent interpretations of mostly 20th C classical compositions.

Here are the originals

These are well-known for good reason.
