![]() ![]() The Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz I have this on vinyl. Bought it when I was in college. If instead of embarking on this whole project I just said listen to this you’d pretty well covered. It might be hard to imagine what this was like back before the internet. A collection like this was indispensable. Check it out and listen https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_...f_Classic_Jazz Damn.

That and the Bamako Rail Band are probably the two that are most likely to not be considered jazz by some.
I was going to include Fela Kuti, I always considered him an an Nigerian jazz artist but I noticed his music isn’t considered jazz Stetson’s circular breathing demonstrated on The Sun Roars Into View for example is a free jazz thing imo

![]() Quote:
The patterns he works with are minimalistic but it’s also an extension of Coltrane and then like Evan Parker

Yeah, but Evan Parker's circular breathing solo stuff (Monoceros and so on) isn't particularly jazzy as well. I mean, it kinda is and it's Evan freaking Parker, but you know what I mean.
