Where were you when you first heard about Cliteater's 2008 release Scream Bloody Clit?

Wherever you are right now I would imagine.

I ran through the search engine and was surprised by the lack of praise for 2008 release Feed The Animals by Girl Talk. It's so seemless, smoother than my fantasy image of Trollheart's bottom. He mashes in things that are so unexpected but then you feel like you always knew it was coming and you've been waiting for years. I'll admit that novelty is part of the attraction so use in moderation.

Fascinating. What do you think of those metal records?

Billionaires sharing the earth with starving infants has been a steady constant for quite some while but 2008 ratcheted it up a notch with a global rice shortage and hike in food prices. If you're among the big rich please don't lose any sleep. The rich got richer, as usual.

Larry Ochs, Miya Masoaka, Peggy Lee - Spiller Alley (RogueArt, 2008)

This was put up only 4 weeks ago and had no views at all. Be a musical maverick.

certainly 2008's A Deeper Silence which is a single 73 minute track from composer Steve Roach is a serious candidate for best ambient album of that year

War Criminal in Chief Barrack Hussein Obama was elected president in 2008.

From Hindustan Times:

Obama’s legacy will be defined as more war than peace. Obama embraced drone attacks with such alacrity — authorising 506 known strikes, compared to the 50 strikes under Bush — that he was dubbed “the Drone President”. By dramatically boosting US weapon exports, Obama also distinguished himself as the greatest arms exporter since World War II.

Fennesz's 2008 release, Black Sea, is a gorgeous record that incorporates clear undisrorted guitars, drones of pure distortion, and interesting glitch hooks used in moderation.

Wrongest Record Review of 2008

Pitchfork's Grayson Currin pans Mogwai's instrumental The Hawk is Howling.

https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums...wk-is-howling/

Actually, it's pretty good.

Glad I could straighten that out.

More bands should stop wasting their breath.

OccultHawk 09-30-2017 08:16 AM

wrongest pick for 2008 album of the year

Goofle with this ****ing garbage:

fun dmc by people under the stairs

Full of tracks that sound like filler for De La Soul or A Tribe Called Quest. And A Tribe Called Quest are overrated to begin with. People going ape**** over their crappy dullsville comeback are trying unsuccessfully to relive something that wasn't even that good the first time around.

Atlanta's Deerhunter's 2008 Microcastle is a fine example of shoe gaze. There's really nothing to complain about. A selection of subtle, enjoyable, melodic music. Deserves the praise it received.

2008 jazzman of the year was no doubt octogenarian Bill Dixon.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ZFeQWDDNaD...on+picture.jpg

Dixon was to pass away two years later in 2010. Perhaps determined not to waste his final breaths he gave us an astonishing three masterpieces that were either recorded or released in 2008. All of this music is completely unassailable.

Here's a record I'm happy to see still in print and available on YouTube and Spotify. These are recordings of music by practitioners of Santeria. Santeria is a religion that originated in the communities of West African descendants in Spanish speaking areas of the Caribbean. It's an offshoot of Catholicism highly focused on theatrical rituals centered around the worship of saints. Since spreading into the United States there's been some scattered controversy over animal sacrifices. American converts, especially white would be sheepshaggers, seem to delight in exaggerating the importance of goat heads and chicken blood. Animal sacrifice is a genuine part of the faith but I have my doubts about former surbanites dancing around like drunk blood soaked butchers. Leave the appropriation to Lisa Bonet, crackers.

Back to Smithsonian Folkways and this time to the smal North African country, Tunisia. Once hopping with the Star Wars creators now it's a local haunt for ISIS and the Taliban and other people you probably wouldn't trust with a straight razor shave unless you like them very, very close.

Tunisia, Vol. 1: The Classical Arab-Andalusian Music of Tunis

This music was recorded by musicologist, Wolfgang Laade.

Many of his field recordings are available through the Music of Man Archive.

Recommended for people interested in world music.

As a faithful reader of this blog you know that one of my reoccurring themes is the great Philly Joe Jones. Well, it has reached the point where we have to talk about his relation to Coltrane. Like every musician who ever played with Coltrane it was the most important thing he ever did.He played on Coltrane's Blue Train and worked along side him, both as core members of the First Great Miles Davis Quintet. After the Quintet dismantled Miles took on Tony Williams, who he raves about in his autobiography, for his fusion phase. And Coltrane's drummer was Elvin Jones during his modal phase. Elvin Jones was the greatest drummer to ever live. Some people like to frame it up like Philly Joe Jones was either left behind or rejected the artistic directions of Miles and Trane. Neither of these assumptions are correct. He did, however, criticize specifically unnamed "horn" players of latching on to Coltrane despite incompetence. Great musicians tend to make terrible critics and it's obvious he was referring to Eric Dolphy and Pharoah Sanders, both geniuses. Nonetheless, Philly Joe Jones was not abandoned nor did he reject his bandmates. He continued in his hard bop tradition and we'll explore what he went on to do later.

This is something I bumped into yesterday. Kinda Philip Glassy-Steve Reichish

A review on amazon compares him to Fripp

I'm not convinced he's on the level with any of those but it's still good for a listen

Barwick was once old and haggish. Wrinkled in vagina and breasts and voice. She entered an arranged marriage with a handsome young music lover. She asked him if he would rather her body become a young beautiful delicious **** or for her voice to be gifted with the talents of a great singer. He replied he wanted her to be whatever she wanted to be. So she turned herself into a beautiful delicious **** with a great voice. He was happy and she sang out in glee whenever she came.
