Why did Urbs leave anyway? At that time I spent a lot of time in plug.dj. and I was unaware exactly what happened. I just remember his shaking avatar, and the details "triggering continues" (or something like that). Then he suddenly disappeared. One day he's all over the place, the next day *poof* no where to be found just like the passenger pigeons.

While we wait on that exposé I want to go back to when it all went undeniably wrong: 2016.

Such an incredible year for music and such horrible year for humanity. As harrowing as 2020 has been I feel like at least there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Now I’m very pessimistic about what’s after the tunnel but it’s not like 2016 when we were just entering the tunnel and that was all we knew. Well, I mean we don’t know for sure the future now anymore than then but idk perhaps it’s just that frightening novelty that it’s not ok has worn off. We’ve adjusted to the deeply not ok and even relish in the idea of entering a much more profoundly not ok era or a ray of sun or crisp air or whatever it is.

Controlling Body by Peder Mannerfelt

https://pedermannerfeltproduktion.ba...ntrolling-body

The Subliminal Kid is Peder Mannerfelt.

That Subliminal Kid is DJ Spooky.

They’re different people.

This album is an electronic album that has an uneasy feel and incorporates fragmented what’s he saying vocal samples designed to echo in your head drug music especially weed - on the cusp connectivity but ultimately too strange to unravel.

Quote:
Mannerfelt's Controlling Body (2016) was built around samples of recorded music and amateur videos plus new compositions sung by Cameron Mesirow (aka Glasser). The vocal samples are dissected and warped beyond recognition until they become voiceless sounds. Mostly these skeletal pieces rely on minimalist repetition of vocal effects

The presidential candidates are making final pitches to New York voters ahead of the state's crucial primaries on Tuesday. The frontrunners, Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton, are heading into the contest with double-digit polling leads. Still, Trump rivals John Kasich and Ted Cruz can win some of the state's coveted 95 GOP delegates if they keep Trump below 50 percent statewide, and in some of the state's 27 congressional districts. Clinton rival Bernie Sanders will look for a stronger-than-expected showing to preserve momentum gained in a string of recent wins.

Dedekind Cut - Successor

I already said this:

$uccessor by Dedekind Cut

This is truly one of the definitive quintessential records of the 2016 avalanche of musical brilliance. Absolutely essential. Beautiful disquieting ambiguity. Fantastic avant ambient. A true sonic delight. 5/5 highest rating. Very enthusiastically recommended.

All that still stands but I want to talk about the cover.

Quote:
It's an apt soundtrack to the album artwork (below), which depicts two men on horseback in what seems like the middle of nowhere during night's darkest hours.
Vice says Dedekind Cut is a pseudonym for Lee Bannon but elsewhere it’s noted as Fred Warmsley. So born Fred Warmsley changed to Lee Bannon changed to Dedekind Cut.

That’s him. That’s him on the horse. This guy was born in Sacramento.

Quote:
In 2002, the Civil Rights Project at Harvard University conducted for Time magazine named Sacramento "America's Most Diverse City".[17] The U.S. Census Bureau also groups Sacramento with other U.S. cities having a "high diversity" rating of the diversity index.[50] Moreover, Sacramento is one of the most well-integrated U.S. cities, having a relatively high level of ethnic and racial heterogeneity within its neighborhoods
Interesting because what I was going to say about the album cover is that I feel like it removes the otherness from the black subjects. Horses. Not in the city. It seems like a space owned by whiteness. Utah Idaho Wyoming. Same as the ambient music scene. It’s a very engaging and powerful photograph. So much so that I think the music benefits from the association with the image. It’s not aggressive in anyway. It’s not hip hop machismo. Instead it’s a comforting reclaiming of space, geographically and musically.

President-elect Donald Trump met with President Obama at the White House on Thursday for their first discussion of the transition of power in January. Obama called the meeting "excellent." Trump said the two were only supposed to talk for 15 minutes or so, but they kept going for 90 minutes. Trump said he would seek Obama's "counsel" through the transition process, calling him a "very good man." During the campaign, Obama stumped for Hillary Clinton and called Trump unfit for the office, but on Thursday he told Trump his administration would "do everything we can to help you succeed, because if you succeed the country succeeds."
Very gracious Obama but it didn’t work out.

Love Streams by Tim Hecker

Tim Hecker has a consistently unassailable discography and this one certainly no exception. It’s been a little off my radar so it was a good thing to give it a listen just today.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton pulled further ahead of her Republican rival, Donald Trump, in two new polls released Sunday. A Washington Post/ABC News poll put Clinton up by 12 percentage points, 51 percent to 39 percent. A Wall Street Journal-NBC News poll gave Clinton a lead of just five percentage points. Trump was closer in similar polls a month ago, but his popularity has suffered over the last two weeks after he said a Mexican-American judge in a lawsuit against Trump University was biased against him, and congratulated himself on his terrorism rhetoric after the Orlando mass shooting.

New York City's annual gay pride parade opened Sunday with a moment of silence in honor of the 49 people killed and 53 injured in this month's mass shooting at an Orlando gay nightclub. Authorities tightened security at pride parades in New York and around the nation in the wake of the shooting, the deadliest ever in the U.S. The pride events also celebrated President Obama's designation of the area around New York City's Stonewall Inn as the first national monument to gay rights.

I’ve said it before but I love this album. Big time. Gets a lot of attention from me. This takes a guitar duo to a place where it’s barely recognizable as guitar. So ethereal and shiny and furious and floaty. Two geniuses locked up on an awesome vision
