Correctly far more associated with rock steady ska we’re still going to take a look at this Hammond Organ bad ass.

He absolutely slays on this Upsetters track, Cold Sweat. God bless whoever uploaded this clip.

Here he is killing it again as The Liquidator.

and finally some absolutely delicious dub

This is an important record to know about because it’s a very early pioneer of the real deep dish dub sound. It’s a great listen and fully unassailable.

A little Lamp Lighter information that’s not on wiki and I can’t source it but whatevs. The number 14 in the title is a numerological play on two sevens which is a reference to the Rastafari obsession with the Marcus Garvey prophesy that apocalyptic events were to take place 07/07/77. The original release intentionally had seven tracks per side.

This Is...Augustus Pablo 1974

Augustus Pablo is one of most important figures in the history of Jamaican music and an unassailable pioneer in the history of dub. He was also the greatest melodica player of all time. This Is is a great album to chill out with.

The entire album is great but I love this song:

Arabian Rock

Chinna kills it on guitar!

I've tried and failed to give a **** about reggae several times but The Upsetters are currently giving me what I wanted from reggae without being as bland and monotonous. Good look, homie.

Pick A Dub
Album by Keith Hudson

Since this has already been called a classic in every way possible I’m going to take a look at some of the evolution of one song on it which is a cover of The Dramatics’ In The Rain, one of my favorite Stax singles.

Here’s the instrumental version on the original release of Pick a Dub

Here’s a vocal version included on the deluxe edition

And here’s a couple of great hip hop songs that sample it

King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown
Studio album by Augustus Pablo and King Tubby

In another thread we were talking about the DIY low budget recording trends and the impact of changing prices and technology. Well, if you want to hear one of the greatest triumphs of that ethic check out this unassailable classic. For I & I.

The first five minutes and twenty six seconds are brilliant. You demonstrate an impressive understanding of dub while creating something intensely psychedelic. With every abrupt change the listener doesn’t know how I & I got there but still has the feeling that the change has some kind of meaning. Then after the young Ronald Reagan or whoever finishes his talk there’s a sudden tempo and change and suddenly the song goes to ****. It goes from being a really good dub song to Harry Partch / Residents style of worthless circus assclown buffoonery and never recovers. It continues to get more ridiculous and stupid as it goes along.

In the large scheme of things it’s expected for the entire song to suck but instead half of it is fantastic which is a huge achievement. Creating five minutes of good music is more than I’ve ever accomplished. Despite I & I’s disapproval of the second half it’s still a solid 4/5 Stars. Congratulations.

it sounded cooler before it existed. Faulty machine

there's a ton of that on the album

you should probably stay not listening to Trouble Salad then. It's all pretty ridiculous and stupid.
