1. Your Love Is My Drug: Pretty sure the first Ke$ha song I ever heard, as I think it was her first single, but at the time I could have given a ****. I just didn't wanna know about pop, but soon I would at least be receptive.

Pretty ****ing excellent pop, but not a fav tbh. Partly because I think it was meant to be a more pop oriented single to dip people's toes into what would soon become known as KE$HA, and so it doesn't quite reflect her trashy schtick (being a tame love song) or the filthy club banger sound that is her trademark. Even the party hound white girl rap is toned down.

It doesn't help that it's three minutes of not listening to "Tik Tok" at the beginning of the album, so I almost always end up skipping it to get to what I really want. Still a good song though.

2. TiK ToK: I have no idea what the **** "Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy" means, but it's still one of my favorite Ke$ha lines ever. It's retarded, indefinably trashy, and opens the best pop song ever recorded.

I love pretty much everything about this song to a factor of 11. The silly lyrics, the drankass delivery, the uber-party vibe, the trash, the pure vibe of glitz and euphoria, the drop into the chorus that gets me hyped each and every time I hear it, the thumping bass when it hits. It's simply the quintessential Ke$ha song, and if hell ever freezes over and I throw a block party, this will get played at midnight and I will shoot anyone who doesn't get down and scream the words.

In fact, the only thing I don't worship about "Tik Tok" is that pointless melodic interlude at around the 2:00 mark, but everything else grants this song so much license with me that I could give a ****. It's like a genius, Batman comics fan, lingerie model nymphomaniac who listens to Nickelback. Who the **** really cares about that one thing when everything else is so overwhelmingly amazing?

Keep on keepin' on, Ke$ha. Even if you never quite top "Tik Tok" I'll still remember you when I'm 60 if for no other reason than giving me this pop ambrosia of the gods.

3. Take It Off: The second perfect song on this album is only the slightest step down from "Tik Tok", but that still makes it pop nirvana.

As with every brilliant Ke$ha track, the ****ty, orgasmic beat drives you along until a majestic chorus, when the beat intensifies into a lush orgy of retard pop bliss. I don't know why people bitch about Ke$ha's use of auto-tune, like, in the context of unapologetic dance pop there are few things that integrate the vocals as well into the production, and when done correctly (as Ke$ha does), the result is some of the most immersive trash one could ever find.

Not sure what else to say about this song, cause let's face it, Animal isn't an album of great diversity, so what I said about "Tik Tok" will apply to a lot of the songs, but when you're me, and all you want is three-minute pop masterpiece after three-minute pop masterpiece, then who the **** cares?

4. Kiss 'n' Tell: It's probably around here that the moderate naysayers start to complain. This song follows the same pattern as the rest, but does it amazingly, rather than perfectly, and so the so-called "cracks" start to appear. Animal certainly isn't Ke$ha's most consistent release, but for the most part even the songs others might criticize are still pretty great.

Like I said, this song is basically a clone of the last two, but concentrates more on Ke$ha's put-on personality rather than being the ultimate club hit, so it's actually just a bit musically reserved. And juvenile. Oh so juvenile. Gloriously juvenile.

Ke$ha talks to her boyfriend, who has cheated on her, but rather than weeping or excoriating him, she mocks him for being stupid enough to brag about it. Ke$ha doesn't always consistently portray her "personality", but here is an underrated example of Ke$ha as the brash party girl who could give a **** about a guy's bull****. It's dumb as ****, so ****ing dumb, embarrassing even, but god damn is it oddly charming to me.

5. Stephen: Oh god, this ****ing song. The worst song Ke$ha ever recorded? Quite possibly. I generally don't go to pop for ballads, and while Ke$ha would put out some surprisingly solid ones on subsequent albums, the slow songs on Animal are pretty horrendous. Like, gun to the head make it stop.

The hook, with its lame vocoder effects, is downright irritating, the song itself is insipid and wildly boring, and the lyrics are simply not Ke$ha. Moping after some arbitrary dude? Gag.

Moving the **** on...

6. Blah Blah Blah (feat. 3OH!3): And here we have yet more club pop sex. The lyrics are all party, all trash, all Ke$ha, all the time, and the chorus is so brilliantly idiotic that it comes back around to genius.



Ke$ha, I love you. No one else could write that **** and pull it off. No one. Britney? Blah. Madonna? Blah. Kylie? Blah. Christina? Nah. Taylor? Nah. Carly? Nah.

Car car car.

7. Hungover: This ballad isn't as cringe-inducing as "Stephen", but it still sucks balls. "Stephen" is awful for reasons already stated, but "Hungover" isn't even notable for being annoying. It's just dull. The chorus is decent, gives the song a bit of personality, but it's still cutting room floor quality.

The biggest problem I have with Animal is these two songs. They sit right there in the middle of the album, like fresh turds, killing the amazing momentum, and leave the rest of the album to pick up the pieces, which it has a hard time doing as most of the best songs are already over. But the curtain hasn't fallen, and there's still greatness to be had.

NEXT!!!

8. Party at a Rich Dude's House: Picking the dumbest song on a Ke$ha album is like picking the best: impossible (unless it's "Tik Tok"). I guess "Party at a Rich Dude's House", by some unholy act, is actually not the dumbest, but it is certainly the most brilliantly dumb as exemplified by its title.

It's just another party song, but it's a party... at a rich dude's house. And Ke$ha threw up in Paris Hilton's closet. That actually happened too. Amazing.

The simple, brain dead garage rock(?) riff that forms the backbone of the beat is also an awesome bit of... "diversity" to liven up proceedings after the two ballads, and works about as well as rock as it does as pop.

"Party at a Rich Dude's House" is yet another perfect pop song, getting the album back on track brilliantly, and yet again shows off the insane, inane Ke$ha pesona to all of the horrified world.

9. Backstabber: One of Ke$ha's "pretty good" songs, there isn't a whole lot to say that hasn't already been said. Trashy lyrics (actually kinda uninspired as far as Ke$ha goes), meh verses, but that chorus' piercing autotune gives the song a memorability that saves it from complete irrelevance.

So yeah, pretty good. If you're a Ke$ha fan then you'll probably dig it, but otherwise you can safely avoid. Wouldn't have missed "Backstabber" had it been left off the album tbh, but it's still another Ke$ha song for me to listen to while waiting for her next release, so it's worthwhile for that at least.

And that's about all there is to say.

10. Blind: The only reason this whiny ballad isn't as terrible as the first two is because the chorus is absolute gold. If I were actively listening I'd say the song was meh, but if I'm internet surfing and not really paying attention after about thirty minutes of Ke$ha goodness, and the rest of the song fades into the background only to catch my attention with the chorus, then this song somehow rises to pretty durn good status. So this song is entirely a chorus to me basically.

Seriously, Ke$ha, nobody wants to hear you cry about losing some dude. You pulled it off with "The Harold Song" on Cannibal, but thank god you realized it wasn't your thing for the most part after this album.

That is one awesome chorus though.

11. Dinosaur: The things I would say about this song I would also say about "Backstabber". Except that while it's just a "pretty good" song, the lyrics about being grossed out about an old man of indeterminate decrepitude, topped off by a hook where Ke$ha actually spells the word "dinosaur", is one of the most gloriously idiotic moments on the album. No, actually it wins that Ke$ha-only contest. This song is in fact the stupidest thing Ke$ha ever recorded.

Bask in it. Wait, I almost didn't post the chorus. Shame on me.



12. Dancing with Tears in My Eyes: And here we are at the back end of the album, an album that by all rights should have ended with a whimper, but is in fact still going pretty well. This is the best song since "Party at a Rich Dude's House", and while it doesn't have that Ke$ha pizzazz that makes her best work so brash and iconoclastic and delightfully classless, it's still an excellent showcase for her highly-developed pop sensibilities. Pretty much the same thing as all the other club thumpers, but done well, if obviously not as well as her best. If nothing else, Ke$ha can still save filler by chucking in a good chorus.

If you're still listening then this is perfectly fine. If not then don't worry. You'll be a'ight.

13. Boots & Boys: With the club beats and party girl lyrics, it's easy to draw comparisons with Ke$ha's debut to Lady GaGa's, but at its best the pseudo-rap delivery and ridiculous lyrics very much give Animal it's own identity, but this song is definitely an outtake from The Fame. "Boots & Boys" is a perfectly fun pop song, but it betrays GaGa's influence to an extent that makes it derivative. But it's still pretty fun, so, cool.

14. Animal: This is probably the biggest departure on the album. It's not trashy in the Ke$ha way, it's euro disco techno pop in the Kylie vein, and is as fun, euphoric, and atmospheric as that implies. It's also a bit balladish, and shows the better direction Ke$ha's later ballads would take, but it's still mostly just solid. The positive vibes make it better as a closer though than a standalone song, so it still has its worth, and leaves Animal with a better final impression than it would otherwise have.

And so we reach the end of Ke$ha's debut.


Final Verdict: If you're paying attention to Animal as a whole then this is merely a highly decent pop album (nearly great if compared to many of its contemporaries), but if you're doing it right and concentrating on the first half, skipping the lame ballads, and absorbing the choruses of the later filler while looking at memes on Imgur, then it is a wart-faced masterpiece. Ke$ha would better this on her next two releases, but as a primer for the Ke$ha persona it is invaluable and magnificent.

And "Tik Tok" is god.

I still love that remix album she did and the acapella EP. I played the remix album two days ago and it still holds up.

Kesha - Rainbow (2017)






I was originally planning on reviewing this when it came out, but I didn't want to post my initial thoughts without chewing on the album for a bit, and then I got lazy, but after all this time I think I have a real opinion on it so I'm finally taking the plunge. As always I'm doing this track by track so I can talk about Kesha as much as possible. And yes, I am calling her Kesha since she clearly wants to cut ties to her old style and all the baggage that comes with it, and also because this is a clean break that is almost like a second debut, so Kesha she will be from now on, though when discussing her old music I will refer to her as "Ke$ha". And on that note I will also mention that even though I initially wanted to keep this purely about the music and not her history over the past few years it would obviously be impossible to do so, both because of the lyrical content of certain songs and because Rainbow's very nature requires context. But unless a song requires that context I will try to keep the focus on the music and not be like all the other reviews I've read that concentrate almost entirely on god damn Dr. Luke and their "relationship".

So without further mother****ing ado, let's check out mother****ing Rainbow...

1. Bastards: I honestly haven't listened to this song as much as others on the album. In the grand tradition of me and Ke$ha albums I generally skip the first track, not because I don't like it (far from it), I just always like the second track more and want to get to it.

This song is no different even if it has none of the drunk, party girl auto-tune that defined her early career (which is also absent from 100% of Rainbow). It introduces Kesha's love of country, being a reserved ballad that encourages with moderate profanity to give the finger to the haters and be who you want to be. That's all well and good but it's honestly kind of boring. Not terrible, but I really don't have much to say about it beyond it being easily the worst single from the album. I don't even really want to talk about the country aspect since other songs on Rainbow did this sound better. The best I can say about it is that it introduces the album well as far as it being her most diverse and unapologetically oddball album yet.

But yeah it's kind of boring.

2. Let 'Em Talk: What is this? Garage pop? **** it who cares cause as I said this second track is what I always skip to when starting this album cause GOD DAMN ****ING **** ALMIGHTY IS IT ONE OF KESHA'S ABSOLUTE MOST CATCHY AND ANTHEMIC SONGS OF ALL-TIME AND IT'S AMAZING AND RULES AND OMG I WANT TO LISTEN TO IT ALL THE ****ING TIME **** YOU AND **** GOD!!!

Ahem... JESUS ****ING CHRIST I LOVE KESHA AND ANYTHING TO DO WITH KESHA SHE'S AMAZING AND...

Ahem... alright... so... this song exemplifies everything that Kesha is about while sounding almost entirely unlike anything she has done before with, off the top of my head, the exception of "Party at a Rich Dude's House" and "Dirty Love". It's euphoric, silly, pop majesty, and more fun than shooting fish in a barrel. It shows all of her personality and justifies her performances from previous albums as not just flash-in-the-pan schtick. Kesha just seems like a fun person who I'd probably like to meet in real life.

Lyrically it's all about empowerment and not giving a **** about anything but making yourself happy and fulfilled. Not exactly original stuff, but Kesha is a person who is uniquely suited to this kind of in-your-face happy **** that makes you want to dance and present yourself to the world in all your fractured glory.

This song is also a perfect intro to the diversity of Rainbow, which completely divorces itself from the four-on-the-floor, dance pop club hits of days past and simply revels in pop music in general and all of its possibilities for joy and catchiness. It feels somehow 80s while also sounding unlike anything that I could associate with any style of mainstream pop over the past few decades. It's proof that Kesha doesn't need her hand held by that soulless, robotic, trendy **** Dr. Luke. He may be a hit factory but he has no ideas of his own beyond taking the current pop music zeitgeist and knocking it out of the park. Kesha simply has more personality, originality, and charm in her adorable pinky than he has in his entire diseased body. This is a punch in the face of any detractors who would question her ability to walk on her own two feet. Kesha is a pop goddess who has the potential to rival any other pop icon on her own merits.

3. Woman: I legit hated Kesha's second single. It wasn't thumping dance pop like "Tik Tok" or "We R Who We R", and I think that just made me sneer without really listening to just how amazingly fun it is. Jesus. It's so anthemic and godlike that I feel stupid for having underrated it. It's Kesha. I should have known better. The instrumentation is certainly not the Kesha of old with it's actual instrumentation and heavy use of horns, but that just makes it a different single for her that still hits as hard as any other single of her career.

The lyrics are certainly pandering and I won't deny that. It's a woman's anthem to be played in a car packed with dolled up ladies on their way to a club, even if it's not a standard club hit. But **** it I don't really care cause it's just a brilliant pop banger that every pop and/or Kesha fan needs in their life. I literally had the chorus stuck in my head all day at work and it made me want to make this entry. She has the absolute knack for sticking the dog's bollocks in your head.

**** yeah, Kesha. **** yeah.

4. Hymn: I guess I could say that this is another departure for Kesha. She's had downtempo, ballad-esque songs, but this still sounds like something different from anything she's previously released. Its lyrics are generic as an anthem for the rejects, but Kesha herself is an oddity in pop music in that she presents her personality as it is without conforming to trends. She just so happens to be the kind of weirdo who would make the kind of Facebook-bait, anti-bullying song that this is. Not that she is necessarily not tapping into that trend, but this is still her wheelhouse.

That said, it's a good song, but it's also not one of her best. She's clearly doing what she wants to do but it's still not a knock-out-of-the-park. I like it but I don't love it. Kind of emblematic of my problems with the album honestly; it's a good album, but not entirely consistent. I still don't skip it when it comes on.

5. Praying: Okay, this is going to be a long one. I hated this when it came out. Hated it. Even loathed it. It sounded like a corny, faceless, Elton John piano ballad that made me terrified that her new album would be a cheap attempt at making herself out to be a "legitimate" artist in the same vein as Lady GaGa's misguided attempt at "art pop".

It is indeed an Elton John piano ballad. But when I actually listened to it in the context of the album it just clicked very, very hard. I was pretty high at the time to be honest, but I stand by the tears I shed.

An admission: when all the **** surrounding Kesha and Dr. Luke was happening I refrained from forming an opinion. I had no 1st hand knowledge of either person or their relationship, and the impossibility of proving rape charges without immediately reporting it made it foolish to take either side. I also refused to keep up on the details as I found it disrespectful and kind of creepy to immerse myself in that kind of court case. I wanted my love of Kesha to be about the music, and all of that **** was just repulsive. Consequently I couldn't help but doubt her claims at least just a little, tiny bit, as her persona did kind of paint her as odd and at least slightly crazy. The contract dispute didn't help. I didn't actively form an opinion of Dr. Luke's guilt or innocence, but the whole thing still slightly tainted my opinion of Kesha for no good reason other than my attempt at objectivity. I know it was unfair, but I simply couldn't help it. Now I feel like a disloyal ****.

At first I tried to ignore the lyrics to "Praying" because I simply didn't feel comfortable judging them for their truthfulness. But when I finally really heard the song, not just listened to it, there's no way I could pretend that anyone who could put that sheer amount of emotion into such a song could be lying for the sake of spite. This was a woman who had truly been wronged and was exorcising her demons in the only way she knew how. I stand by that opinion and will legitimately feel crushed if it turns out that she is lying, but I don't believe that this is the case and will never believe so unless proven otherwise.

I'm honestly forgetting all the things that I wanted to say as tears run down my cheeks. Kesha does not hold back her resentment and hatred for Dr. Luke with lines like, "When I'm done they won't even know your name!", but I believe in her magnanimity when she claims that she hopes that he will find his peace, and that his soul will change. This song, and this album could easily have been a morass of dark emotions, and she would be completely justified for it, but Kesha is a pure soul who will never allow anything to crush her joyous soul.

To be honest, I feel like I've regained my best friend without even realizing that I'd lost her. I said that I feel like a **** for having doubted her, and I mean that wholeheartedly. This is a person whose goofy, positive, beautiful charm simply will not be crushed by even the most horrifying of experiences. A person who can come through hell and still be herself. For whatever it is not worth, I am proud of Kesha Rose Sebert. I am proud that she is a person of such character. And I am grateful that such a person has chosen to share herself with the world. Even if I'm just a hopeless fanboy, I believe that she is a national treasure, even if the rest of the country isn't quite on the same page... yet. If you thought I was pathetic with my Kesha love before, then just know that I love her more now than ever, not just as an artist, but as a person.

**** me, that's out of the way, and I'm still crying, but if Kesha by any strange chance ever reads this then just know that I stand by you and this song is an amazing oddity in the world of mainstream pop music that the world should be grateful for hearing. You are beautiful.

Oh yeah, and it's actually a pretty fantastic song. I even like the corny, Elton John **** since I can totally picture Kesha's corny ass thinking that it was time to get on the piano when she was writing this song. This is certainly not a song that she would ever have phoned in. She's not Christina Aguilera, but her vocal prowess still carries this song beautifully and makes it the most dramatic pop song I have ever heard, redeeming a genre that doesn't need to be redeemed, but if it did, this would be the song with its emotional honesty. If I don't listen to this song as often as other Kesha songs it's simply because I would find it disrespectful to listen to it for anything but as a monument to her worth as a person. OMG let's move on I can't take this ****...

6. Learn to Let Go: This isn't one of the absolute best songs on the album, and again isn't a usual dollar sign Ke$ha song, but it's still a very fine pop song. It reflects the lyrics of the previous song, and reinforces her determination to not let her demons overcome her. The lyrics would be kind of cheesy in any other context (the title sums up the song pretty entirely) but in this album and after "Praying" it's a nice counterpoint to show that Kesha is trying her absolute hardest to live her life as a person and not a victim.

And even if it's not a Kesha classic it's still a very good song with moments that are euphoric, catchy, and memorable in the way that a pop song should be. The chorus has vocal highlights that are some of my favorite in her career, but still, this is an example of how Kesha is clearly learning how to write on her own, successfully, but still learning. She's got that pop knack, but if I'd have to guess this kind of song is a stepping stone for what may very well be an album to be feared by all, near and far.

Even so it still has plenty of personality and shows that even what might be another artist's filler is Kesha's promising learning process.

7. Finding You: The odd singing pattern (phrasing I guess) of this song reminds me of the Beatles, and I'm not just blowing smoke, it legit kind of reminds me of the Beatles from their latter career. This isn't the only song to bring the Beatles to mind, but the phrasing (?) is definitely what makes me think of them. That said it's what passes for filler on this album. The middle part of Rainbow honestly lets down a bit after "Praying", and its memorability somewhat hurts the flow of the album. This is a fairly great, or at least highly good album, but it's songs like this that make Kesha feel like a really good but not necessarily, truly brilliant songwriter. **** me that hurts to say, but hey, the Beatles didn't do it on their own and never really regained their brilliance after they broke up. So suck on that, Paul McCartney.

8. Rainbow: This is another song that kind of brings to mind at least somewhat 60s pop. I can't really justify that statement other than a vague feeling. I'm not gonna defend it against people who're wondering what the **** I'm talking about, but it's just kind of a thing. Her phrasing is also kind of fun and different, with lyrics that aren't necessarily mind-blowing, but still fun and uplifting. This isn't a great song, but I still can't help but kind of love it for its vague strangeness. It goes strange ways without really feeling strange.

This album is kind of that way honestly. It doesn't sound groundbreaking by any stretch of the imagination, but it still feels like a specific expression of an artist's imagination that couldn't be replicated by anyone but Kesha. This really is Kesha at her most playful and fun, and Kesha's playful sense of fun is her defining characteristic as far as I'm concerned. She's clearly having fun just making music that makes sense to her rather than catering to a vastly entertaining but still limited sound dependent on the aforementioned pop zeitgeist. Even if Kesha can do better it's clear that she's just having a blast doing her thing.

And to be perfectly fanboyish, even if it doesn't mean as much as it would to your average listener, Kesha having fun making music for the sake of having fun making music makes me happy. I like Kesha sounding happy. And this song's relentless positivity really underpins its point: no matter what's happened between Warrior and this album, Kesha is just a happy person who likes making happy music.

9. Hunt You Down: This is just one of those silly songs that perfectly encapsulates Kesha. Except that it's pop country, sort of like "Bastards" but way better. It's just simple Nashville sound country in the vein of Loretta Lynn and makes it clear that she likes Loretta Lynn. It's a sound about love with an obsessive but light-hearted twist the same as classic Loretta songs like "Don't Come Home A-Drinkin'" and "Fist City".

It has none of the bombast of Kesha's early music but is still a fantastic pop ditty that is all Kesha. I simply love how playful she is with so many songs on this album, and this is... well, not her most playful, but that says nothing as her most playful songs on this album defy description. And yes I am specifically thinking of one song that I will gush over in due time.

If you ever thought that Kesha was a one note party girl then this song, if you still needed any assurances at this point, proves that Kesha is just a pop fangirl who will go to any genre of pop that she can to have a good time at any cost.

10. Boogie Feet: This song is best girl. I've listened to it more times than I can count and if I listen to Rainbow then eight out of ten times it's an excuse to blast this track at least five times in a row. Seriously this album has a lot of places it goes beyond the usual Kesha schtick, but this song is mindlessly euphoric pop brilliance. I could listen to this song all day and be ostentatiously happy. It's just big, dumb fun that I guess kind of brings to mind her High NRG tracks of old, but without sounding anything like "Tik Tok" or "Die Young". It is an unapologetic paean to embarrassing, white people dancing. It's supposedly about being good at dancing, but it's really about dancing like a complete retard no matter what anyone thinks.

It's got sick guitar riffs or some ****, but it's all about Kesha having the absolute most fun she's ever had singing any song she's ever sung. This legit feels like the most Kesha song ever recorded. It's just so stupid, with throwaway lyrics that are a backdrop to being a ****ty, dancing idiot. And **** me is it one of the catchiest things you will ever in your life hear. It underpins that this album is not about all of her problems, it's about Kesha making the sickest pop album she possibly can, cause that's all Kesha ever wanted in the first place.

Top 5 Kesha song with ease. **** that. Top 3. Damn, top 2. ****, it competes with "Tik Tok". It still doesn't beat it, but it's that good. If you're not a fan then you're not a Kesha fan. Just finished this song entry but I'm still gonna listen to it at least two more times cause I can't not.

Kesha is a ****ing godlike pop songwriter.

@Elphenor - Remember when I used "trill" in League of Legends and you laughed? It was a Kesha reference. I know it's not a Kesha invention, but I used it cause of this song. Suck it.

11. Boots: Alright I probably listened to "Boogie Feet" at least five times, but now it's unfortunately time to listen to another song... after this one last time...

Alright finally done. This is another song that's good and fun, but not really a classic. It's about sex and ****, but just kind of a pop song. It would be a decent song on any other artist's album, but on a Kesha album it's filler. Not bad filler. But filler.

12. Old Flames (Can't Hold a Candle To You) [feat. Dolly Parton]: There have been a few songs on Rainbow that didn't quite meet my standards, but this is the worst song on the album. This makes me sad since it is probably the only time I will ever get the chance to hear Kesha sing with Dolly Parton. I mean how much of a wasted opportunity is that? Kesha simply isn't suited to this kind of weepy country ballad.

But you might think that this is just a throwaway track that Kesha as an old school country fan managed to wrangle out of an artist who just kinda said "Okay, why not?" Well Kesha's mother wrote this song, which was one of Dolly's #1 hits, so this is kind of history. Too bad Kesha really isn't suited to this song, as it honestly feels pointless.

*sigh*

Can't win 'em all. But this still links two of my favorite artists, so I can't help but feel happy.

13. Godzilla: This is absolutely the dumbest song Kesha has ever recorded, and if it isn't the dumbest song she will ever record then I will be flummoxed. It makes "Party at a Rich Dude's House" sound... alright nothing will ever make that song sound not stupid, but this song is brilliantly idiotic. It's literally about Kesha dating the radioactive lizard Godzilla who has been terrorizing Tokyo for over half a century.

I do not know how this song came to be or how much ecstasy she was on when she wrote it, but this could not possibly have been a song written sober. It's a metaphor about dating a guy who other people think a girl shouldn't be dating, but the metaphor is completely irrelevant in the face of the sheer silliness of this song.

This is legitimately one of my favorite songs on the album. It has a completely retarded, glorious chorus that doesn't even include real words, but what really makes me love this song is how on an album that includes "Praying" there is this bit of sheer nonsense that proves that Kesha is just the goofiest person you've ever met who isn't me. It honestly challenges me as a silly person to meet the challenge that this idiocy presents. Godzilla loves pizza and video games. 1v1 me, bitch.

Remember how I said that this album occasionally reminds me of the Beatles? This is this album's "Yellow Submarine". And I honestly don't know which song is dumber. And I don't care.

14. Spaceship: Another of this album's pop country songs, and with two failures and one success this song could be a sure failure, but it's easily not. It's a pretty nice 70s, Nashville sound country song (if you don't know what 70s Nashville country sound is then learn) that's not brilliant but low key and fun and sends the album off with a relaxing vibe that I would never in a million years expect to hear from a mainstream pop album. Even if Kesha isn't 4 for 4 for country songs it's still cool to hear her commit to the sound out of love.


In summation, this is not necessarily Kesha's most consistent album, which would probably be Warrior, but it is easily her most diverse and interesting. This is also not the album of an artist hobbling along without the aid of her hitmaker partner, but the transitional album of a pop master who has every chance of writing the best pop album of all-time. And even now she has still released one of the most idiosyncratic and cool pop albums I have ever heard. Even if I don't know that it is as addictive as Warrior or Cannibal , it's definitely better than Animal . I wait with baited god damn breath to hear what she does next, because it will assuredly be amazing.
