I'm gonna need a link for that Anais Mitchell album, since it's not on Spotify.

So you guys have until the 19th of December to send in album recs for me to review. A reminder once again, that they can be any genre and that you can only give me 2 albums per person. People who have already gave can't. Anybody that hasn't, feel free. I really need some more since I've finished with all the albums I've been given so far.

Also, Mord, you need to give me a link for that Hadestown album or I can't listen to it.

Truckfighters - Gravity X

So this is stoner rock/metal, and the only stoner rock I've listened to is QOTSA, that's the closest I've gone. Which means this genre is fairly new to me, and of course I haven't heard any of the classics of this genre. But after listening to this album, I certainly will be. I really loved what I heard on my first go. It did take a song or two to click, but by god it clicked. This is certainly something I can see becoming a favorite, but we'll have to see after giving it another listen. Here we go then I guess. Onto the track-by-track review.

We get right into it with the first track, Desert Cruiser. Now on first listen, I just wasn't feeling it, I really don't know why. But now I can say otherwise. One minute in and it's goddamn perfect. The guitars are ****ing fuzzy as hell and I love that, it just makes everything sound so damn heavy, and now I really want to get stoned to this, I just realized. Halfway through we get a decent solo, and then **** just breaks down into a slow riff that picks its self up. And I haven't mentioned the vocals. They're nothing special in my opinion, but for this music, and they way they're placed throughout this album, I think it works like a charm. Moving onto Gargarismo, and these riffs ****ing rule. The drumming is nice and crispy, it feels warm but heavy. Halfway through, it stops, and then slows down into another riff. Oh, and then speeds back up again. Ozo anchors this **** perfectly, and it's just gold. And then it slows back down, into some gentle riffing and this section is really sweet. And then finishes. Momentum up next, and another 7 minute track. I don't mind though, because I remember not wanting the album to end on my first listen. This one is a softer song, but I like it. And **** just breaks down into another delicious riff. And I love when Ozo screams on this, sounds proper good. Oh my god this riff 5 minutes in is ****ing heavy. Some weird effects with the guitars I think, but it just makes it sound so tasty. And a sweet little solo, and then all the distortion fades out, and the drums take us out, and then back in to the next song, Freewheelin'. And this was the song that hooked me on first listen. This was where I totally started digging it. Which is ****ing stupid because those first 3 tracks are awesome. They can do short songs just as well as their long ones, and this is the ultimate proof. 2 minutes in, and its throttling right on, and handclaps join the party. Or at least I assume they are. Whatever it is, it's ****ing amazing. Is that keyboards or something? **** I don't know, but it sounds sick. And then all drones out for 3 or so seconds, and then some really nice guitar strumming. All western and ****. And a guy saying "do you feel lucky, punk?". That was great. ****ing great. And now for The Deal. I remember not really thinking this was much of a standout. It's certainly loud though, and is certainly above average. I swear the vocalist sounds like Ozzy sometimes. Probably just me. I swear the way the vocals are phased sounds like I'm listening to a Black Sabbath song. 3 minutes in, and it breaks down into another headbanging riff. Now I want to see them live. I imagine it would be quite memorable. Superfunk next, and from here on out, I remember loving every single track, and I never wanted it to end. Oh my god I love that riff. Sticks in your head for sure, which is mostly what all these riffs are. Catchy as ****. And just as epic at that. And this gets funky 3 minutes in, hence the track name. Dude this is just out of this world. ****ing brilliant. And then it just slooooooows right the **** down. Duuuuuude, sooooo slow. Way to end the track.

Halfway through the album, we arrive at Subfloor, one of the shortest tracks on the album. This one is the definition of short but sweet. I don't know if it's the trumpet or trombone being used here, since I don't know the difference, but it's ****ing beautiful. And then right into Gweedo-Weedo, and hell ****ing yes. The vocals drowned out for me ages ago, but they work well regardless of what's going on. It's like I'm at the bottom of the sea, being ****ing crushed by the pressure. After all that chaos though, it gets softer, chill as ****. The storm has passed, and it's easing us straight out of the track. Really nice man. I can't believe we're not even close to finishing yet. So now we're into Manhattan Project, this starts off great, and 1 minute in, we get some great screaming, love it when he does that. 3 minutes in and this is where I can tell **** is about to get epic as ****. That riff in the background is so good. And Ozo sounds ****ing amazing, sounds angry as ****. And the drumming is admirable, it sounds so good on this album. 5 minutes in, slows down to some gentle strumming. The song seems almost cinematic at times. 28 seconds to go, but **** doesn't end there, as we are treated to another riff to close us out. Great track. In Search of (The) starts off as we'd expect, another standout riff. And then gets heavy as ****. It's all just thumping along, so much deep distortion, ****ing mental. How come I didn't know this band before, so many quality bangers. I really can't wait to get stoned to this now, I'll probably lose my **** even more than I am right now. I love how catchy the songs are, they don't fail to stick in your head. Now into the Intermission, a nice little bridge song. Got some chill vibes man, how is this album so damn perfect. I mean, it's been an hour, and it hasn't failed to keep my attention. Not even in the slightest. And long may it last, right ****ing into A. Zapruder, which to me felt like the final track. And holy ****, it brings out all the stops. Heavy as ****, drumming frantically following the riffs like a boss. It goes through a little slower bridge section, preparing us for the next bit, where **** just gets ****ing mental. Ozo giving us another tasty scream episode. This whole song is crack. This whole album is crack. And it fades right out, drumming going wild. And now for the actual final track, Altered State. I suppose it works in the context of the album, I just don't feel like it would need to be 8 minutes long. But whatever, chill as ****. After the onslaught of everything that came before, it makes sense that we ease ourselves out of the album. I'll also take this time to mention that the album cover, album name and band name are ****ing brilliant. I could see myself wanting this on vinyl. Now the song is slowing building up, drumming gradually ascending, and the guitar just doing it's own little thing. Not my favorite track on the album, but I honestly can't complain that much. So what, they have one average song? I'll let them off, at least they had the decency to be smart about it. And we have reached the end.

So I guess all I want to say is thanks Blankmind for recommending this wonderful album. I can safely say that so far, it's on point to being one of my favorites. And it's been a while since I've listened to an album that actually blew me away and that was love at first listen (excuse the cheesiness of what I just said). I loved every track, except for the last one, not because it was bad per se, but that it was just too long. Other than that, it was all gold. And I definitely enjoyed it even more than the first time. And I'm totally going to listen to this stoned, and then proceed to rate it 5 stars and add it to my favorite albums list. Thanks again, and CKY is up next so stay tuned for my thoughts on that.

1. "Desert Cruiser"
2. "Gargarismo"
3. "Momentum"
4. "Freewheelin'"
5. "The Deal"
6. "Superfunk"
7. "Subfloor"
8. "Gweedo-Weedo"
9. "Manhattan Project"
10. "In Search of (The)"
11. "Intermission"
12. "A. Zapruder"
13. "Altered State"
So my rating is...
4.5

If you don't listen to a lot of stoner music I'd definitely say you should look into the genre. Between the psychedelic rock ones and the doom metal ones the genre is just killer.

You could always up the number of recs per person.

Yeah sure, whatever. **** all these deadlines and rules, I can't be arsed. You can all rec 1 album per post, but you have to wait for 4 more people to post before you rec again. Basically like how Love or Hate was. Just go for it, I'm well ahead here, and I've enjoyed a lot of what I've heard.
