Today I review Soundgarden's Ultramega Ok (1988) (Grunge, Alternative Metal, Stoner Rock) in honor of the death of frontman Chris Cornell.

https://e.snmc.io/lk/o/l/165ccaafde7...5d/3851648.png

I haven't listened to this album since I was a teenager, but I remember feeling it wasn't very good.

Flower - This is so much more punk than Soundgrden's later stuff.

All Your Lies - Damn good shit.

665 - This song is very weird. I love it! Lol

Beyond the Wheel - Oh shit that guitar! This is awesome!

667 - These numbered track interludes are weird and awesome.

Mood for Trouble - This is all so much faster than I remember it being. Feels a lot more punky. I guess you can say you can hear the Soundgarden's influences a lot more in this album.

Circle of Power - Fuck this is badass!

He Didn't - :hphones:

Smokestack Lightning - This song is more of they'd become but more bluesy.

Nazi Driver - Hey, it's a song about Batlord... Badass song though.

Head injury - More of that punky feel.

Incessant Feel - I dig.

One Minute of Silence - Fucking John Cage wannabes.

Final Thoughts: I remember the production on this being so bad. I'm going to assume the version on Spotify is a remastered version. If so, the album is absolute badassery. The only real issue I have is the I want to be John Cage track.

Best of the Super Juniors 24 is Currently happening.
https://cdn3.whatculture.com/images/...5f-600x400.jpg

Riccochet vs. Ospreay II exceeded expectations. I think those two are two of the best high flyers in all of Pro wrestling.

Dragon Lee vs. Hiromu Takahashi was an amazing main event for day 1.

Marty Scurll continues to impress in the event as well.

I also have no idea who's going to win the event. Every wrestler feels like a probability. :yeah:

Today's terrible review is Soundgarden's Louder Than Love (1989) (Grunge, Alternative Metal, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal)

https://e.snmc.io/lk/o/l/12f883add7a...88/1232681.jpg

You can still hear the punk influence all over Soundgarden in this album. But you can also hear the sound they would become famous for taking shape. Ultramega Ok had bit of a punk vibe while this album seems to be more of a Alternative grunge album.

I don't have really anything bad to say about the album. The production could use some work, but it doesn't ruin the music or anything. Cornell seems to have improved as a singer, he's really bringing out that monstrous voice that'd become a staple of his later music.

It's time for another shitty review with 1blankmind.

Today's review is Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger (1991) (Grunge, Alternative Metal, Heavy Metal)

https://e.snmc.io/lk/o/l/2f55bc31d10...9b/3655968.png

So this album is generally considered the one that gave Soundgarden their major breakthrough success. The sound that Soundgarden became known for really comes into fruition here.

While this is a fantastic album it's not their best. Maybe second best. The albums production is a massive step up from their last two records. There are no songs I would call weak, nothing I'd call bad. All good shit.

So, I was going to write a review for Superunknown, but then I decided that I didn't want to write a long thing of me gushing over my favorite album. So I thought I'd tell the story of this albums importance to me in high school.

I was 16 and just began to discover grunge. I first heard Nirvana from a compilation album my parents had and was blown away by it.

https://e.snmc.io/lk/o/l/81283f26f3a...e9/2892621.jpg

That's the Nirvana greatest hits that had You Know You're Right.

Since I was a teenager and probably the angstiest teen to ever angst I had to dive deeper. So I discovered Pearl Jam's Ten, Alice 'n' Chains' Dirt, Stone Temple Pilots' Core and the best album from Soundgarden. Their Superunknown.

Initially, I hated the album... :banghead: I wasn't the biggest fan of Cornell's vocals. It took me awhile to come and appreciate the album for the genius it was.

Now it's one of my all time favorite albums.

Today's review is Alanis Morrisete's Flavors of Entaglement (2008) (Pop Rock, Singer/Songwriter)

https://e.snmc.io/lk/o/l/910f7aaedb8...59/2268103.jpg

Citizen of the Planet - Starts off with an indian feel to it. Chorus has that alternative feel.

Underneath - Some traditional 90's pop.

Straitjacket - Electronica. Interesting.

Versions of Violence - Synth start's it off. This feels like it should have electronica as a genre as well.

Not As We - A soft piano plays while while Alanis sings in a broken voice. This song seems so much more emotional.

In Praise of the Vulnerable Man - The guitar being played backwards? Cool.

Moratorium - More electronica. It really should be a secondary tag on RYM.

Torch - More emotional music.

So far I dig this album, but I don't think this outdoes Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie and Jagged Little Pill.

Giggling Again For No Reason - Good song.

Tapes - Dreamy pop music.

Incomplete - More electronica.

Final thoughts: This album feels different. It feels like a woman reflecting on her life. She's coming to peace with herself and ending everything with the song incomplete, saying she still has room to improve. This feels like an adult finally coming to terms with who they are.

So is this a good album? Well... I think the music is good, lyrical content is decent, and has an enjoyable vibe. That said, I struggle with the overall personality of the album. Maybe it's one of those "You're too young to understand" things.

My attempt at a review today is JME's Integrity> (2015) (Grime, UK Hip Hop, Trap Rap)

https://e.snmc.io/lk/o/l/704ed3d9b91...5f/5688076.jpg

Oh god that face! It's horrifying. RYM calls this Grime. Never heard of Grime. It's apart of the reason why it's taken me so long to review it. I want a clear head going into the album.

Pulse 8 - Starts off promising enough. Some interesting electronica. Track Pops with some rap.

96 fuckries - Eh... most of these lyrics are not very good...

"Nobody wants a punch in the face
Cause when you get punched in the face it hurts"

I feel like you'd have to be mentally retarded to call that a good lyric.

Taking over - A lot of this stuff seems to be either bragging or Violent rap...

Work - I like the beats but the rap is... bad...

Game - I'm not into this... at all...

Same Thing - Decent beat, but boring rap.

Amen - I'm bored...

Again - When I started this album I was wide awake, but now I'm about to fall asleep.

Break You down - I'm done with the play by play... I'll come back with the play by play if something interesting happens.

...

No You Ain't - This album is so boring that I had to sit up to prevent myself from falling a sleep.

...

Integrity - This song has a cool intro that's moving into a neat little beat... but the rapper is too corny for me.

Final thoughts: The beats had their moments, but overall this was so boring

☆1/2

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go jerk-off

Cuthbert 06-13-2017 05:27 AM

That JME album probably isn't the best if you're new to Grime.

Punch in the face is a reference to an old lyric. The track is sick.

Blank. 07-01-2017 03:54 PM

Ok. Here's the order for the next couple of reviews.

The Residents - Meet the Residents
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Will the Circle Be Unbroken
Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition
ICP - The Great Milenko
Estradasphere - Palace of Mirrors

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 07-01-2017 04:01 PM

Today's lame attempt at a review is The Residents' album Meet The Residents

https://e.snmc.io/lk/o/l/e7677e36526...4a/6230857.jpg

Awhile back Frown had asked me if I liked any experimental music. I had never really listened to experimental music before, so I said Primus. Frown then showed me this band.

Boots - I have no clue what the fuck is happening but I like it. Shit this is weird and amazing.

Numb Erone - This is interesting in the weirdness

Guylum Bardot - And it continues into this song.

Breath and Length - I'm frightened...

Consuelo's Departure - I oddly enjoy this. It's weird and fun.

Smelly Tongues - The problem with reviewing this is I find this album hard to describe, and I'm running out of ways to say the album is weird.

Rest Aria - Ok, things have a dramatic shift when the music takes on a more traditional piano sound. This track isn't what you would call traditional, but it's so far the closest thing the album has presented. This might be my favorite track so far.

Song fades out with what sounds like a sax.

Skratz - Here we are given a hi-hat playing over a spoken word with some instrument in the background.

Spotted Pinto Bean - This song starts with a horrible piano. Ok, this song is just annoying. I can do without this.

Infant Tango - Has a Funk vibe with with some horns playing on top of it... Track has a fun interesting vibe. I dig.

Seasoned Greetings - It feels like these song here at the end are a parody of more traditional songwriting.

N-ER-GEE (Crisis Blues) - And right into the weird music. I'm enjoying this.

Final thoughts: I get the feeling like this album was never meant to be taken sseriously. It was a small group of guys getting to get her and having some fun. And frankly, it shows in the music and allows the music be so much more enjoyable.

I listened to that once and thought it sounded like goofy white boy rap that wasn't even fun. I was probably pretty wasted at the time though, so I guess I could give it another shot.

Really? Even if I didn't like it it doesn't sound like that. You sure you weren't listening to a Streets album?

Yeah give it another shot. Or try Showtime. Both good albums.

I stared into the sun. Man was gone, a shell of its former self.

I stared into the sun... I wished for life to save me from my careless identity

I stared into the sun... it stared back...

I stared into the sun as it set over the barren fields of life

I stared into the nothingness

Something new he's been doing. He always wanted to be a music artist. His original Youtube channel was called Dizastamusic.
Well, his EP, In Tongues, isn't that good. It's like Trip Hop but not as good. The music is boring, uninventive, and kind of just lame. I think the music shows promise going forward and I will check out future projects by him.

Stuff like Pink Season shows us that Joji is a talented songwriter. So I'm excited to see what else he does going forward.

As cringy as Pink Guy is, I can't help but to love it. It's just him having fun. Though, Nickelodeon Girls is fire.

https://target.scene7.com/is/image/T...=520&fmt=pjpeg

This album is ranked 68th on RYM for 2017. I though it might be a fun listen.

Music is heavy with some decent vocals. 30 minutes of heavy music with little variation. Pretty good.

10. Tetsuya Naito vs. Michael Elgin for the IWGP Intercontinental Heavyweight title.

With this match I didn't know what to expect. I wasn't very familiar with Naito. I knew Elgin from ROH and I knew I wanted him to win.

This match shocked me with how good it was. Naito is incredibly athletic and Elgin worked his ass off.
