9. A.J. Styles vs. John Cena III
A.J. Styles had overcome Cena at Summerslam the previous year to go on and win the WWE championship. Styles had proven to everyone that he was deserving of being the Face of Smackdown live. Now coming for redemption was the face of WWE, John Cena. He needed to prove he was still the man that had been the face, the leader of WWE for ten years. Cena was also a 15 time world champion. If Cena won he would be tied with the 16 time world champion Ric Flair for most title reigns. (Why would they chose a love song for a story about redemption?) Styles and Cena engage in a back and forth of counters and strikes telling us they are on equal footing. Both men kicking out of each others finishers telling us that these men will not let pain stop them. Eventually Cena hits his finisher then rolls through to hit his finisher for a second time to get the pinfall victory. Cena reaffirms his place as the face of WWE while Styles walks away letting everyone know he's on Cena's level and that the match could have gone either way. |

8. Kazuchika Okada vs. Minoru Suzuki for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship
Okada has just defeated and over come Kenny Omega and now is awaiting to learn who his next challenger will be. Then Okada and his Chaos faction is attacked by Suzuki-gun. Minoru Suzuki stands above Okada challenging him for a title shot. Leading up to the match Suzuki kept attacking Okada's leg. Okada now has to overcome a bad Knee as well as Suzuki. No big deal, he just has to overcome one of the greatest MMA fighters in the world. Suzuki goes for Okada's Knee. Okada lies on the mat in constant pain. Suzuki laughs at Okada for even trying. Suzuki's biggest weakness is also his greatest strength. He's a glutton for punishment. He pushes Okada to the edge only to do everything he can to prove that he's tougher. Allowing Okada to comeback from the edge and pull himself into a victory. Omega once said that a win against Suzuki is just a fancy way of saying that you survived Suzuki. And that is simply too true. |

7. Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg for the WWE Universal championship
The majority of the matches I'm going to pick are considered masterpieces in their technicality. This is the only match that's on the other end of that spectrum. This isn't a technical masterpiece. It's too brutes picking each other up and slamming each other around. Disliking this match because it's not technical is kind of like disliking The Ramones because they're not using Jazz chords. It's a stupid way too view music and wrestling. Sometimes the world needs two roided up Beef-heads just beating each other up... Oh right, the story. Ok, so, Lesnar and Goldberg faced each other at Wrestlemania XX in which Lesnar lost. After the match both men leave. Goldberg goes into retirement and Lesnar tries his hand in other sports. Lesnar becomes a UFC Heavyweight Champion. Lesnar finally leaves UFC and comes back to WWE and becomes the most dominant wrestler WWE has ever seen since Andre the Giant. He becomes the king of WWE. Lesnar invites Goldberg back to Wrestle him at Survivor Series to fix the one blemish on his career. Goldberg beats him in two minutes. It's Wrestlemania and it could be Lesnar's last opportunity to redeem himself. |

Did blood soaked cage matches go out of style?

Pretty much. A better way to put it would be we figured out how hard those matches were on the life of a wrestler. Much in the same vein of the concussion law suits for the NFL.
In 2007, Chris Benoit killed his whole family and himself. WWE in response turned the product over too be something more kid friendly to save face with sponsors. WWE being the leader of pro wrestling around the world marked this moment as a change for the majority of wrestling. Even the companies that still do extreme don't do it that often anymore. I don't watch the companies that still do, so you won't see it on my list. If you want to watch them I can point you in the right direction. |

pretty sure CZW just shut down a few months ago, right? extreme wrestling is dying, unfortuantely. well... i say unfortunately, but for the well being of those involved i suppose it’s for the best.
