Today'ss review is Tepeu's Q'uq'umatz. An album by the esteemable Mondo Bungle. (Atmospheric Black Metal, Progressive Metal, Avant-Garde, Post-Metal)

Spoiler for Big album cover:

Creation: Album begins with a build. There comes in with a flute I think. Sounds like a guitar, in the background. I actually really enjoy this track.

Only the Sky Existed: And we move into the next track with heavily distorted guitar. It sounds like we have some jungle music happening in the background. And some heavy guitar comes in. Wow! This is really good. I love that transition. It's still growing strong. What is happening? I have no idea, but it's just awesome.

Ik Kil Cenote: Track starts with bit of an upbeat happy feel. Yet it also has bit of a downtrodden feel due to whatever is happening in the background.

Xpiacoc and Xmucane: Again, I am unsure what is happening, but I love it. Love this drum work here at the 2:30 mark. I really enjoy what I'm assuming is your guitar work. 6:30 mark. I love this so much right here. This might be my favorite track thus far. 10:30 This is awesome! I like the way you ended it.

Bloodletting Ceremony: What is that you're beating on? What is going on? Why is this so awesome? It's over? I want more though!

Tepeu: Ok. Onto the twenty-five minute track. We have an easy soft flute playing. And a synth(?) playing now. Some really great guitar has come in. This track is what I would call progressive. The synth is gone, and I have no idea whats happening again. It's pretty awesome though. 2:45 I love this guitar! The blasting drums are awesome. Is someone growling in the background? Wow this is good!

I just noticed how long this song is. I know that prog is famous for the it's longer songs, but this seems excessive. That's not in anyway a bad thing nor is it a good thing. It is what it is. But... I don't know. Song is still sounding epic. I can't understand a word of these vocals but they do what they need to and sound good doing it.

This really is a great track. Really well done.

Final thoughts: This album is really well done. It's everything it claims to be and more. I love this album.

Favorite track: Hard to say. Each track was unique and quite fun in its own right.

The album for those that wish to give it a listen.

Currently masturbating to the album*

On a side note, I went into one of the local record stores the other day and one of the employees was wearing a Title Fight hoodie. We had a good 15 minute conversation about Title Fight, Ceremony, and MLIW.

Today's review is American Football's American Football (Midwest Emo, Math Rock)

http://cdn3.pitchfork.com/albums/205...e.3a9d7a66.jpg

Where Are Wee Know?: Soft guitar starting this out. Soft melodic vocals coming in. Some drum work comes in. Still soft. I really dig the soft slow personality of this.

My Instincts Are The Enemy: Soft guitar and a bit of drums. Really digging this track.

Home is Where the Haunt Is: More melodic music...

Born to Lose: Can they do something that isn't melodic...

I've Been So Lost For So Long: The melodic guitar starts off the formula that they have...

Give Me the Gun: I like the way this song starts... Has he started every songs vocals with him saying the name of the song? I can swear he has.

I Need a Drink (or Two or Three): Bet you $10 he starts this song by saying the name of it... You owe me $10. You know, these lyrics are pretty corny, "I'm going to die this way." That sounds like something every sophomore ever has written.

Desire Gets In the Way: I like the start to this song. This might be the best song on this album thus far.

Everyone is Dressed Up: Another soft melody... Is that a horn? Well points for trying something different.

Final thoughts: This album feels a bit uninspired. It feels like a thirty years old man tried really hard to recapture emotions he felt in high school.

Favorite song: Desire Gets In the Way

This is the wrong album. They have two albums named American Football with the new one being a reunion one, which is what you listened to. Go listen to the 1999 one as it's their magnum opus.
