Today's review is Cursive's Domestica (Indie Rock, Post-Hardcore
Emo, Post-Hardcore) http://saddle-creek.com/a/LBJ-031/LBJ-031_large.jpg This is the third album on the list of the Emo stuff for the rock album survivor. This band is also on Saddle Creek Records. Which is a major (I think they're major) record label out of my home town. I've never listened to anything from them so this should be interesting. The Casualty: Fuck this intro is epic! Wow! This song is so much better than anything on those two other records. God, this "yell" is raw and awesome. The Martyr: Epic transition. Amazing music. This song gets better as it goes on. Shallow Means, Deep Ends: Electronica intro, not as cool as the other two. But the guitar is coming into it and it's right back to the epic music. And it never relents. Making Friends and Acquaintances: This track is a bit lighter. Lots of awesome bass here. Gets heavier as the song goes along. A Red So Deep: Awesome intro. I hear some country twang in the guitar. And its gone. God, this music has been so epic. I love it. They deconstruct the entire song and then throw it all right back at you, so we'll done. The Lament of Pretty Baby: Hi-hat and some angry guitar. It keeps building into something increasingly better. The Game of Who Needs Who the Worst: Lovely intro. This music is written so it all comes together so nicely. The Radiator Hums: Awesome song The Night I Lost the Will to Fight: Some awesome guitar work, again. This guitarist is really good. Final thoughts: This album shocked me. I was expecting something with decent music, but not something this good. This was a very pleasant surprise. Favorite track: The Lament of Pretty Baby |

I am going to to take a moment to talk about my new album. Stuck Between The Parallels of Man & Monster.
When I started the project I set four guidelines for myself and let's see if I actually met them. The first one was that all songs must be 3 minutes or longer. :yeah: All tracks were over the three minute mark. No less than ten tracks. :yeah: I had 11 tracks, so we're good. Cohesive flow between songs :( I missed the mark on this. All the songs after Sugar & Cocaine didn't really have that great of flow. Should've spent some more time on that. Each song must have one major quality about it that sets it apart from the other songs. :yeah: I was afraid I was going to screw this up. I kept reusing the same scale, which could've thrown me into a loop of redundancy within the music. Luckily I started to force myself to branch out more when this occurred to me. The first thing I wrote after the realization was what ended up being my favorite song on the album, Sorrow Filled Masturbation. To quote a friend of mine upon hearing it, "it's trippy." So all and all, I'm happy with this release. The music is strong and holds up on its own. |
Today's review is The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die's Whenever, If Ever (Midwest Emo, Post-Rock)

Heartbeat in the Brain: Some guitar building and a beat comes in. Really dug these tracks so far. This vocalist has some weird **** happening here. He sounds like pre-pubescent little boy. Fightboat: Track starts with a horn. Nice build. Needs a better vocalist. Picture of a Tree That Doesn't Look Okay: Like this guitar. Sweet deep bass happening in the background. The vocalist is a lot better here. More tolerable. I really like how the track built into something more fast paced. You Will Never Go to Space: Really digging this track. The Layers of Skin We Drag Around: This track doesn't really build. It gets straight to business. Well, it pauses and gives us a brief build. It's a short track. Ultimate Steve: Nice easy guitar slowly building. This could be my favorite track. The chorus of boys singing is kind of welcomed idea. Gives the song a unique feel. Some really cool drum work happening. And it ends the track. Gig Life: To transition it into this track. And it is a acoustic track. And we have the pre-pubescent singing again. Low Light Assembly: Not sure what happened in that intro. But we have some piano in the intro of the song. This could easily be a contender for a favorite track. Getting Sodas: Nice easy guitar. Unique track. Wraps up the album nicely. Final thoughts: This album was better then Sunny Day or Mineral but not as good as Cursive. Favorite track. Ultimate Steve. |
