Considering I'm focusing on 2016 in this journal right now, it felt like a good route. I apologize if that's not a fair play.

Good job exploring established bands by their downward slope albums.

Is listening to a band for the first time a trademark TH move?

I rip him off a lot

I'm not entirely sure how to respond.

Psychephilia - Starboard

Sometimes as an artist, you are amazed by the things you make, and often times you make so much of something that you forget to really look into the albums that you put a lot of time into. Starboard is an album I made through my Psychephilia project, and while I generally focus on the heavy distorted noise on my ##### project, I use the Psychephilia project to satisfy my other interests in post-rock / space / psychedelic / etc, and Starboard is easily the best thing on that project.

Not only did this album reflect my space post-rock needs, but it also pushed me to put out longer tracks that ended up turning out really well in the end. I'm listening to it again today, and I honestly feel like I'd expect this album out of a post-rock group that I listen to normally. I only say that not because I'm trying to promote my music as much as humanly possible, but because I'm impressed with the quality that I put into it.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with being proud of the music that people make, and this one is certainly an album I'll always reflect on as being one of the best I've ever made, at least as far as Psychephilia is concerned.

First Impressions of Talk Talk

Talk Talk: Laughing Stock (1991)

I was given the idea from a couple different people that I should listen to Talk Talk. So I'm starting off my listening adventure with Laughing Stock, and I'm going to write my first impressions in here.

So, unfortunately with how most things go, there are often differing opinions from several others that say i'll either hate this or i'll love it based on my tastes, and apparently if I love post-rock, it's practically a sin that I haven't listened to this band, but Laughing Stock isn't exactly make it any difference whatsoever. I'm a big fan of post-rock, truly, but this isn't exactly what I look for when I listen to the genre. I'm not entirely sure what makes this group post-rock as it doesn't sound like the kind of stuff i'm into, so maybe that's the problem. But the vocals really don't add to the overall atmosphere, let alone the lack of ambiance and atmosphere. It feels very held back and I'm constantly waiting for something interesting to happen. This album in particular sounds a lot more like an experimental indie album and not a post-rock album at all, so i'm unsure what makes this album fall into that category. Maybe I'm listening to the wrong album. I don't know.

As the album progresses, I'm still not really seeing anything noteworthy or post-rock-esque that fits my needs for a post-rock album, so whether this is what people's idea was in regards to what i'd like, it doesn't impress me much. The vocals really don't sell me on this, as it's been mentioned before, not to mention the poor production quality where I have to turn my speakers way up in order to hear anything. And for tracks to be this long, I need to be able to feel submersed into the music in order to push myself to listen to a 10 minute track that doesn't sound anything like it was said to.

Furthermore, I may go back to this album, but i'm not impressed. I don't think I'll be listening to much Talk Talk unless people insist that this album was just a mistake and I should try the others. But if this is what the sound I'm expecting throughout the rest of their work, I won't even bother.

It's certainly nothing I'd consider legitimate post-rock. I got bored very quickly.
