Short take: it's not going to give you cancer. The study that said that gave rats massive amounts of of the sweetener and if a human took proportional amounts it would be well past the lethal dose. Plus, humans aren't rats. I wouldn't call it heathy though, because your body reacts to it like it is sugar and when some of your organisms run without getting any sugar it can set you up for diabetes.

I checked out loads of different orange squashes today, in my quest to replace the fizzy orange I used to drink and which appears no longer to be sold, but every single one of them, sugar free or not, had aspartame in it. I tend to avoid anything with that in it; heard too many horror stories and don't want to take any chances. You'd think though, orange squash (ie diluted orange) being supposedly the healthy alternative, that they would not be putting the big A in it...
