No, it confirms my point., Haven't you noticed how artists will use many differnet tages to describe music? Obviously, multiple genres creates a unique style for a band, but the sounds are taken from many genre qualities shared by variousd bands. That's why bands are generally considered to be in various different areas of music.

OK, here;'s a good example. What about the Rock Album Survivor? THere have been occasions where we would go over various lists to make room for one album, deciding on what it would best fit in.

Very true! Alternative is still an extremely vague term despite your, uh, let's call them counter arguments since that's what you seem to think they are.

JGuy Grungeman 06-16-2016 05:36 PM

Your points forget what music is about. Experimentation with sound. Every argument you've made with me involving a band isd based on you simply calling them "alternative rock" and forgetting about other influences. How do you possibly tell me alternative is extremely differnet and has no definition when you offer me a song by a band with a genre that has a very restrained sound: punk? The fact that they included EXACTLY WHAT I WAS SAYING ALTERNATIVE HAD in the song you posted proved my point. n In fact, every song you posted had exactly what I was going for.

A genre is a vague term, yes. But it's the closest we have to desriber common themes shared by various bands. Plus, your latest "arguments" were simple little sentences that either said I made no sense and left it at that, or repetitions of what you said before, or using sources that proved my point as well as yours. I honestly think if anyone can convince me of your opinion, it's not you.
If you want to give me examples, why not find songs from albums with nothing but alternative labels?

Frownland 06-16-2016 05:39 PM

My sentences are short because my main point is so short and simple that I don't have to pontificate to try to rationalize it to myself. I could, but I'm on mobile and not in the mood to deconstruct the wheel for you.

A lot of the logic you're displaying is fallacial, like this

I'm told this is a coffee cup
This coffee cup is full of liquid
All coffee cups are full of liquid
Cups without liquid are not coffee cups

Except you're trying to apply rigidity to something that's infinitely less cut and dry than has liquid or doesn't have liquid.

JGuy Grungeman 06-16-2016 05:46 PM

Pontificate? You mean bothering to explain my point, better than what you've been doing? All I'm doing is trying to find a link to alternative rock, and the fact that you haven't gotten it threough your head that a band has more than one influence and the fact thart you mthought you could counteract my point with an alternative/pop/punk band by making the same argument I did regarding diversity just leads me to have to explain what I'm talking about. The fact that you are "not in the mood" to go into further detail to explain your opinion in greater detail just means you were never making very good grounds on your poorly contructed arguments to begion with. And now you say I'm pontificating, which means to preach in a manner that is pompous. Obviously, you have no ability to convince me otherwise, and if you're going to use big words (that I can understand, by the way) to tell me I'm being pompous, I( will be pompous. I'll give you what you want. And you can tell the difference between my arguments and my pompousness afterwards.

You don't have a ****ing idea what your talking about, at least that's what I believed because you are admittedly too lazy to make a good argument rather than "This is how it is."

Frownland 06-16-2016 05:49 PM

Lmao someone's cranky.

JGuy Grungeman 06-16-2016 05:51 PM

You see the difference? I'm tired of being called "pompous, pretentious, self-confident, self-righteous, etc." just because I'm trying to study about a genre.

Zhanteimi 06-16-2016 05:51 PM

Knock it off, you two!

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-16-2016 05:51 PM

There's still no genre defining sound for alt-rock though.

Frownland 06-16-2016 05:54 PM

Apparently, defining the sound of certain sub genres of alt rock is an acceptable way to define the sound of the genre as a whole.

I accused you of hubris when you commented on your own authority on the subject, but right now you don't sound like any of those things, you just sound very heated. I'll write up a longer post for you that will expound on my point. I won't even charge you for it (this is the last time though, putting me up to this **** will require a fee in the future).
