Dimesland - Psychogenic Atrophy Recommended by Frownland I'm pretty stoked for this album because normally technical thrash is a genre I can get down with. The only thing worrying me is that one of the genre tags on RYM claims the album is djent. Hopefully that's some bs and it won't be, because I'm not about that *** ****. Are They Cannibals?: Goddamn. The album came out in 2014 but this is some straight up 80s production, props on that. Besides from that though... meh. I listen to thrash for the brutal riffing, but these guys all seem to be doing their own thing and the guitar work just seems to be all over the place. Kind of reminds me of the first time I listened to Gorguts. Dying Foretold This isn't really making much of an impression on me to be honest. It's alright, but nothing all that special. Institutional Gears: This is like, the least fun a thrash album could possibly be. If it's not making me want to headbang, drink beer, or mosh, why I am even listening to it? Think this might just end up like the MITB album where in concept I should I love it, but in reality it just does absolutely nothing for me. Xenolith: This is a long ass 8 minute track, and it kicks off with some noise and then some droning bull**** that I want nowhere near a thrash album. Maybe I'm being closeminded in trying to define what should and shouldn't be in a thrash album, but if it was done well I wouldn't mind. I just feel like these guys' are doing it for the sake of doing it and not because it actually adds anything to their sound. At the very least the song has a neat outro, lots of synths and a very sci-fi based atmosphere make for a few moments of intrigue. That Cold Moment: This one kind of reminds me of a DEP song at moments, so that's cool I guess. Doesn't really excite me much though, if I wanted to hear that I would go listen to DEP or a better tech band. Malfunctioning Gears: This track is kind of cool. There's layer of feedback heavy guitar and then behind it the rest of the band seems to still be playing. Suddenly it transitions back into a thrash track. This is one of the better cuts for sure. Bound in Stone: Holy ****, this track went by so quickly I have nothing to say. It was like 3 minutes long but I managed to zone out for the entire duration until the outro. There's some more noise at the end of this one. Kind of sounds like a low-rent thunderstorm. Odd Feats Are Bid and Won: And we're onto the final track. Honestly, every song feels like it's offering the same thing aside from the little bits of feedback and drones that popped up earlier. I'm underwhelmed Frown. Final Verdict: This album failed to do anything exciting or entertaining. I wanted to like it, but every time it felt like the band might be going into new territory, they just came back with their boring wanky guitar riffs. I will give a couple of bonus points for the album cover because it reminds me of The Shining for whatever reason, but as a whole this project just didn't cut it. Fail

Dang, I dig the wanky. Their guitarist is from Ostrich Von Nipple, a residentsy type band. Well let's try again with another metal rec that could go either way.
Jute Gyte - Ship of Theseus

I assumed I would enjoy it. It just felt wanky for the sake of being wanky. I can deal with that no problem if the band manages to still deliver pummeling riffs and be brutal as ****, but these guys gave up on the intensity in order to do that and I just wasn't a fan.
Hopefully the next one will be more enjoyable.

Jute Gyte is hands down the weirdest metal I know, maybe tied with Faxed Head.

I personally find it to be their best album and it has a lot more in common with psych folk so you might end up enjoying it, who knows.

In hindsight I should have probably recced you MPP first. I thought with the ambience Fall Be Kind might be your thing but I guess I was mistaken.
Try this.
