Ringworm - Hammer of the Witch Recommended by The Batlord Coming off of that horrendous Violent J album Batty really needs to redeem himself with this one. I could have sworn that I've heard a full Ringworm album, but none of their releases look familiar to me so maybe I'm thinking of Coffinworm? omg I love Coffinworm. Regardless, Batlord knows his metalcore and since I'm quite a fan of the genre myself, I'm expecting to get a big ol' hard on for this one. Dawn of Decay: Oh fuuuuuck yeah. It's a little more technical than I would have expected, not necessarily flashy, but definitely some competent playing. And then suddenly... full on crossover rage. This is right up my alley. I want to go punch some ****ing pregnant women and piss on police cars while listening to this. Bleed: Basically just read what I just said. I was wrong about the technical side, it was just the intro to the first song I think. I'm cool with that though, I don't need my metalcore to have any redeemable qualities to it honestly, I just want it to make me Leave Your Skin at the Door: Omg this ****ing bass line dude. This is the definition of a straight forward metalcore onslaught. Nice little guitar solo sandwiched in the middle of the track too. This isn't the kind of band you would listen to all the time, but when you're in the mood for it, this **** delivers. Exit Life: This chorus makes me want to scream along at the top of my lungs. NOOOO BLAMEEEEEE, AS I EXIT LIFEEEEEE. Throw that on my ****in' tombstone. Psychic Vampire: ****ty song name, ripping guitar riff. Fair trade off in my mind. OMG MORE WICKED GUITAR SOLOS. King of Blood: Oh damn, I didn't even realize the tracks changed. Not a whole lot more to say about the album to be honest, it's some hard hitting metalcore that boarders on crossover in all the right areas. Me likey. I'm really digging the guitar work on this, some the tones are almost melodic metalcore clean, and yet they manage to do it without getting all ****ing Hot Topic about it, you know? Respect. I Recommend Amputation: I feel like I've given this thing as much praise as I can, so I'm not sure what else to say. One of my friends on RYM gave this album a 3.0 so I'm pretty sure he's a pussy. The solo in this one kind of reminds me of Pokemon... idk why. Hammer of the Witch: ^ We'll Always Have the End: ^^ I really like the riff on this one. One of Us Is Going to Have to Die...: Based on the song title alone I feel like this is going to rule. Oh **** yeah, this sounds like Arkangel. Oh damn, their slowing things down, this is brutal, straight up. Vicious Circle of Life: The bit with all the feedback kind of hurt my ears. Die Like a Pig: This song is good. Height of Revelation: This song is also quite good. Final Verdict: Yeah this album was pretty tight. I ran out of things to say because let's face it, metalcore albums are kind of just the same thing over and over again, BUT when it's done this well and you're in the mood for it (aka you aren't a pussy) it's awesome. This isn't really anything new or special by metalcore standards, but it's definitely worth a listen and will be added to my list of go to metalcore albums when I feel like punching something. This be a pass, yo.

Ringworm are straight up OG metalcore veterans, first album in 1993. This is just one of their newer ones, and its pretty much exactly as solid and sounds exactly like all their other albums. But it's got their heaviest production to date so I find myself going back to this and their debut the most. ****ing love this band.
Now review Acme's ... To Reduce the Choir to One Soloist

It's hard to go wrong with straight up metalcore like that. Added the new rec to the list.

In honor of Ki using November as Steven Wilson month in his journal, I've decided to spend next month using this ol' URL as an opportunity to suck the dick of an artist people actually care about, that of course being KING Varg Vikernes.
Considering how lazy and inconsistent I am, you can expect a minimal amount of effort unless I'm hit with a burst of motivation (no really... it does happen sometimes.) I'm going to aim to review his full discography, or at least the actual black metal albums, because **** that ambient bs he tried to pull on us. I will also be attempting to highlight some of his best YouTube moments (hopefully with the help of Batlord, because trust me, there is a LOT of great moments to dig through) and lastly, taking a look at his pre-Burzum career, including his short run in the death metal scene and his work with Mayhem. Oh yeah, and I'll still be reviewing albums you guys recommend at an incredibly tepid pace, so keep 'em coming if you want or whatever. WITH THAT BEING SAID, RAISE YOUR RIGHT HAND OVER YOUR HEART AND SAY IT WITH ME, LONG LIVE BURZUM, OUR ONE TRUE GOD.
