Part II

Moving onto Part II of this possibly three to four part series, let's talk about some more Star Wars games that i've not played.

Let's go waaaaay back to the NES / SNES era of gaming, and what better way to talk about that era of gaming but with Star Wars games. Admittedly, I could probably list of all of the Star Wars games in that era and I probably haven't played any of them, mostly due to me not really knowing too much about Star Wars when those consoles came out, but one that certainly looks interesting is...

Super Star Wars

According to what i've read, it seems to be a run and gun style of gaming which I can assume is more along the lines of how the Castlevania game were played on the Game Boy Advance. I can't know for sure because I've yet to really look up anything in video form about the game, but the information provided about it just says it was a run and gun style.

Next one up we have another one that I have talked about before, but apparently it had an expansion that was released a year later which I had known nothing about until now...

The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition

So apparently The Force Unleashed had some DLC's / expansions added to it a few weeks after the game was released. I had absolutely no idea, but judging by what the Wiki page says, the extra content looks awesome. According to what i've read, you can unlock skins to make your character look like other characters, and on top of that, more levels to play that seem to be exclusive to the Ultimate Sith Edition. Don't know if that's changed in recent years, but I may need to find a way to pick this version up, as I loved playing through the original release of the game. Possibly one of my favorite games ever, but I have a lot of those.

More coming soon. I'm not trying to cram a whole bunch of text and pictures into one post, especially since there are a lot of days in a month, and I want to be sure i'm able to cover everything in the way that I want to. Plus, I like small portions of text over long walls of text. Much easier on the eyes.

(i'm obviously asking for people's opinions on this one, so if you feel like saying something, feel free to do so)

Curious question, right? With a new Star Wars movie coming out, and with the history of Star Wars video games showing that games are made from movies, can we possibly expect a video game based off of The Force Awakens? I am fully aware that there is a new Battlefront on the horizon, or maybe it's already released, I don't know, and I have heard rumors that there will be some things from The Force Awakens in that game, but i'm curious if they'd be going the extra mile to put out a game based on it. Based on the trailers alone, it seems there are a lot of different ways they could go in terms of making a video game. One of which being this guy could be a pretty badass character to play as...

Kylo Ren

Yeah, i'd pretty much chop off my left nut to have a chance to play as a character as cool as this guy. I mean, just look at that lightsaber. It's ****ing badass. I know, I use that word a lot.

Anyway, with the new technology at their disposal, I think a Force Awakens video game is one that could potentially be a promising and exciting bit of news to hear in the months to come. I don't know if i'd play it right away, obviously I'd want to see the movie first, but still, I just think it'd be cool.

I'm sure by now, most of us or all of us have heard the unfortunate news about Christopher Lee and his passing earlier this morning. And seeing as I am focusing on Star Wars related things in this journal this month, I felt it was appropriate for me to at least pay him a tribute for being a part in one of my all time favorite things in the world, video game or not.

First off, let's talk about his role as probably one of my favorite sith in the Star Wars movies and games...

Count Dooku

Christopher Lee played as Count Dooku and made appearances in Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Say whatever you want to say about those movies, but you cannot argue with me about how good of a role this was for Christopher Lee. He made the part. The sound of his deep voice mixed with his menacing black cloak just made you feel as if you were in the presence of a dark lord.

Although Count Dooku appeared in the Star Wars video games, his character was voiced by Jeff Bennett in Jedi Starfighter, as well as other voices for other games. But, I will always think of Christopher Lee as Dooku regardless of the voice actor.

Probably one of my favorite moments of Count Dooku in II and III has to go to this scene right here:

To see a sith lord fail to the point that leads Anakin to chop his head off, is powerful. There are several other moments in the movies that were worth it just due to Christopher Lee being in them, but I don't want to fill this post up with youtube videos.

Anyway, long story short, I am deeply saddened by this news. Christopher Lee brought a lot to the table and from what I can tell, he had a very fulfilling life. I mean, living to 93 is as fulfilling as it can get when you're an actor as legendary as him. It's a shame we will never see him in any new movies, but the movies he was in will live on forever to be some of his finest works as an actor.

Rest well, Dooku.

Like the whole Sith War that happened before Revan's time? That's what that was about.

I think I'm gonna do a bit on that in my comic journal.
Didn't mean to ignore this question. I just saw it. But yeah. I'm familiar with the comics existence but I've never been a comic book kind of guy. That's cool to know though I may want to try to find them though as your description of them has piqued my interest.

I also meant to mention that I was actually talking about the Tales of the Jedi series (Knights of the Old Republic was just the name of the first story arc.) There is a newer Knights of the Old Republic series though.

Time to focus on another planet from the Kotor/Kotor II series: Dantooine

Region: Outer Rim Territories
Class: Terrestrial
Climate: Temperate
Primary Terrain: Ocean, Savanna, Mountain, Grasslands, Steppes

Dantooine is probably in my top 5 favorites when it comes to areas to visit in both Kotor games combined. Everything you get to do including getting your first lightsaber, to learning how to be a jedi from the jedi masters, to exploring the crystal caves to find a crystal that fits your fancy for your lightsaber. Then of course you've got the Jedi Enclave which changes it's appearance throughout the two games, especially when it's in ruins.

I have fond memories of thinking that I was strong enough to take on whatever was in the ruins, but once I got in there, I realized that it had a lot tougher of inhabitants than I expected. It's a pretty good place to find where you are in terms of leveling up, because if you've done it creatively, you may be able to take on whatever is down there the first time you set foot, but if you aren't ready, the enemies will sweep the floor with you.

Dantooine has a very vast and relaxing atmosphere about it, with it being mostly covered in grasslands and weeds and all sorts of things like that. You'll also find people camping around waiting for travelers to come by and if you're willing, to give them some help, because most of them are scavengers looking for a quick buck. Sometimes you'll run into some fierce enemies like a group of Mandalorians, but like I said, if you're strong enough, you can take them out. The music really sets the tone for the planet as well, and it has a few different tracks for the planet, but this one is definitely my favorite one:

When learning how to finally be a Jedi, it's always nice to have a relaxing and calming atmosphere surround you, and this music definitely sets the mood. It makes you feel at home and it really helps to push you to the next level of your training.

And since I missed Friday, this'll be the 2nd post today to make up for it.

One aspect of the Star Wars video game franchise that I think people tend to dismiss more than anything else is the usage of vehicles in certain areas of the games. I'm not really the biggest fan of racing missions and things of that nature, but there's obviously a lot of thought that goes into the design of some of the racers / vehicles that you can find throughout the Star Wars video game universe, and i'm going to point some of those things out:

First off, let's start with the obvious one...

Swoop Bike

Throughout Kotor 1 and Kotor 2, you'll find yourself getting involved in Swoop Bike racing a few times during different missions on different planets. Some people find them to be completely pointless, whereas other people find them enjoyable. I think it brings an added experience to the game if you grow tired of running around and fighting bad guys. I personally have always loved the Swoop Bike portions of the games, because the game does a pretty good job at making you feel an adrenaline rush when you get to the top speeds. Plus, it's fun to try to be your own scores.

Next one is also an obvious one, but I feel it should be mentioned:

Podracing

Simply put, Podracing is awesome. And to have a game revolve around the art of Podracing is honestly the coolest thing ever. Like I said before, I'm not the biggest fan of racing style gaming, but the obvious time it took to design some of the pod-racers for the games and movies is amazing. I always liked to imagine what it'd be like to have Podracing as an actual sport in our day and age. We have drag racing, we have just standard car racing, so I'd imagine people would really get into podracing if it were a thing that existed. Hell, I think it'd be great to participate in something like that, even though it's extremely dangerous.

Now onto something different...

Starships / Star Fighters

So not only do we have games that focus on the vehicles that are meant for closer to ground racing, we also have games that features piloting a freakin' ship. Star Wars: Starfighter is one of them. I think one of the coolest things about knowing the existence of such things is just realizing that even in a game, you have the ability to fly around to different areas of space, and fight off enemy star ships to secure the defense of your allies. And even though we are talking about Starships, I obviously don't want to leave out the most important one...

Ebon Hawk

Yes, the Ebon Hawk. In Kotor 1 and Kotor 2, you'll find that having the Ebon Hawk as part of your vehicle arsenal is by far the most important parts of the game. Imagine if the game were made for just having to get around on foot, it'd probably take years for you to even get from one planet to the next. With the help of the Ebon Hawk, you get to experience the game and the Star Wars galaxy within the games much easier and quicker. Possibly one of the most important vehicles that i've run into in the games, even though my knowledge of the older games isn't that great.

Just a note: I didn't miss Sunday. I've decided that i'll be using Sunday as an 'off day' to prepare for the week of updates that this thread will get for the rest of the month. Plus, Sundays are my lazy days, and I never have much motivation to write on those days. We're about halfway through Star Wars month and there's still a lot to get through. Stay tuned for more.
