SEE THROUGH DRESSES

album title: End of Days
year: 2015
tracklist:
  1. Haircut
  2. Big on Brains
  3. Little Apple Rot
  4. Everyman
  5. End of Days
  6. Drag Scene

I found this band today (Wednesday 09/27). I usually don't immediately post albums or bands I just discover. I always figure I wait a spell, just to see how well it stands up after repeat listening. Just listening to this album once was enough to convince me I found a keeper. Even though the album was released in 2015 it has the 90s written all over it. Every band from the Breeder all the way up to Duster is represented in their music. The last song Drag Scene has a mix of Gin Blossoms and Dinosaur Jr. It like if the 90s was a fruit salad (which represents the 90s) and they threw it into a blender and mixed it all up and handed you one of the delicious health shakes you ever tasted. That is the best analogy for this album I can think of right now. I look for hearing more from them. (It was very difficult finding information on the band cause of their name, maybe I can dig up more info later.)

If I had to rate would be ✯✯✯✯

7 Seconds was formed by the Marvelli brothers, Kevin Seconds & Steve Youth, along with the Borghino brothers, Tom Munist & Dim Menace. I guess they would come right after Minor Threat as far as my favorite Hardcore band. One of my favorite song on the album is track three " Not Just Boys Fun." I don't have a clue what they are singing about, so I can't comment on that effect. However the falsetto always cracks me up. "Young 'Til I Die" is manother favorite track off this album. It's almost like it could be my anthem, maybe idk. Trust is a great track too.

The Like's debut album came out in 2005.

The opener June Gloom is the first song I heard by them. I stuck to this song pretty much for a while before digging into their other material. It took a while before I heard the whole album. (It took till signing up on Spotify to hear the whole album.) Then I wondered why I waited so long. It isn't always the case, but sometimes there is that one song that anchors me into a band and the more I discover about them the more I hear the more I'm convinced I discovered a really good band.

June Gloom is the opener and sets the tone for the album. Like its title it's a bit gloomy. The song reminds me of The Strokes with the drums and guitar line, and the drone-ish vocals during the verse. Then breaks out into a Grungey distorted guitar at the chorus — the guitar changes over from vibrato to distortion when she sing "Looks like the end of days ..." a common in the bag of tricks in 90s Alt-Rock. However it doesn't come across as a worn out cliché. It also takes a nod at The Beatles during the bridge and outro — it's the Leslie-like vibrato warble for the guitar which always sounds Beatlesque to me.
You Bring Me Down is a lovely song. It starts off with an introduction a la Shoegaze and switches over to a Johnny Marr-esque chorusy guitar. The ends with a very decent guitar outro.
Bridge To Nowhere another favorite, it reminds me a little of Joey by Concrete Blonde, maybe it's the melody. It has a Jeff Lynne slide guitar for the solo.
The One Z's stretches notes she sings, somewhat in the same way Andy Partridge does when he sings. He picked that style up from one of his favorite singer/songwriters Judee Sill. The music reminds me of INXS meets The Strokes.
Once Things Look Up This song has the rhythm guitar soaked in reverb and/or chorus.
Under The Paving Stones reminds me of The Strokes and then again also Elefant. Well then again Elefant reminds me of The Strokes. -.-

This is one of my favorite debut albums. I enjoy every song on this album. Regardless mentioning those bands The Like always sound original, nothing sounds derivative to me. I don't think of them as falling into the camp of a "Pop" band or an "indie" to me they are just a very creative band with well crafted songs.

The Telescopes – Exploding Head Syndrome

released:Feb. 01, 2019
songlist:
  1. All The Way Around (Tout Est Dans Le Moment)
  2. Everything Turns Into You
  3. You Were Never Here
  4. Until The End
  5. Don't Place Your Happiness In The Hands Of Another
  6. I Know You've Got Something Inside (Driving You Crazy)
  7. Nothing Was Held
  8. Why Are We Doing This To Each Other?

The most distinguishing feature of this album: fuzzy drones and far-away vocals. It's a low-key album that lends itself well when you want to lounge about loose oneself in thought or perhaps free oneself from thought.
