So I think you probably get that I love Catherine Wheel, right? Their second album, and consecutive #1 spots for the band. But this one is my favourite by just a tad. It's less cohesive, but the songs themselves are just divine. Trollhearts favourite album comes in at a close second and Souvlaki is the last of three 5* albums in this list. Other than that, what more can be said about those two stand out Hip Hop classics? ?uestlove once stated that the 9th of November 1993 was essentially the last day of the "Golden Age" of Hip Hop - as it was the day these two albums were released. Whilst it's really just a fanciful way of thinking, it does go a long way to solidifying their status as classic, legendary albums. The rest is great too, you should check them out if you haven't.

Hmmm... A good year I suppose, but I think the last three or four years were quite a bit better from where I stand. That said, I do like all of these albums a lot. There's not really any surprises on here, though my #3 is pretty obscure - and totally hardcore and shit. Oasis take their rightful place near the top of the list, and my favourite Fall cover band takes home the prize.

What a great year. Some of the finest Hip Hop albums ever recorded (and my persornal favourite Wu Tang related releases), as well as a nice mix of other genres. My favourite Radiohead album by quite some distance and that Black Grape record still holds up to me as the best work Shaun Ryder ever did. Overall, it's a stellar year for me, loaded with albums I regularly listen to.

What's crazy about this year is the sheer amount of fantastic albums that I rate extremely highly, yet I very rarely listen to any of them. But that isn't a negative reflection on their quality, it's just the way things go. I think the biggest testament to this year is the albums I had to leave off. Some great stuff (ATLiens, Attack in Japan, Relaxing With... etc) that would sit comfortably on this list. And what more can be said about Endtroducing.....? It's a legendary album for a reason. Some nice variety on show here

Sidewinder posted his 1997 list a few hours ago, and we share exactly one album. That album is The Lonesome Crowded West. By far my favourite Modest Mouse release, but it's fair to say that I am not the biggest fan of theirs in general. With that out of the way, I can talk about how utterly fabulous every album on my list is. You got two of my 5* albums leading the pack, both of which have had a huge impact on my listening journey for very different reasons. Funcrusher Plus was one of the first abstract/"underground" Hip Hop records I really got into, and it holds up to this day. Amazing lyricism, cool ass beats and just an all round brilliant listen. While I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One was one of my first steps into the dreamier and, ironically, noisier sides of pop. Both incredible to me. The rest of the list is great too. Check out the ones you haven't heard.
