10. Prince - 1999 9. Wall of Voodoo - Call of the West 8. Misfits - Walk Among Us 7. Descendents - Milo Goes to College 6. Flipper - Album: Generic Flipper 5. Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters 4. Crass - Christ: The Album 3. MDC - Millions of Dead Cops 2. Bad Brains - Bad Brains 1. The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour Now, this is a bit of a punk love-fest I see. And I see no problem with that! As you all know by now, The Fall are arguably my favourite band ever, and Hex Enduction Hour is right up there with their best releases. Overall it's probably an average year to be honest. I pretty much never listen to any of these albums regularly, and I was scraping around for the bottom three.

Misfits and Descendents (along with Suicidal Tendencies) were basically my introduction to punk in the early 90s (Dead Kennedys to a lesser extent)...and set me up for a lot of California skate punk listening (Fat Wreck, Epitaph, etc.). The reason I didn't get into a lot of the early punk until years later. Though there was no good reason for not listening to Ramones at the time.

10. Ronald Shannon Jackson - Barbeque Dog 9. Cocteau Twins - Head Over Heels 8. Alan Vega - Saturn Strip 7. Bad Brains - Rock for Light 6. R.E.M. - Murmur 5. King Kurt - Ooh Wallah Wallah 4. Circle Jerks - Golden Shower of Hits 3. Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes 2. Tom Waits - Swordfishtrombones 1. The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge Some albums just take repeated listens before they completely make sense, and end up becoming a personal favourite. Scrips of the Bridge is certainly one of them. I always thought it was good, but once it sinks in, it's something quite special. Probably my favourite Waits and R.E.M. albums. Femmes kicking asses. Ooh Wallah Wallah is a fantastic rockabilly album too. And #10 is also a pretty overlooked Jazz Fusion record.

10. Meat Puppets - Meat Puppets II 9. 76% Uncertain - Estimated Monkey Time 8. Naked Raygun - Throb Throb 7. The Smiths - The Smiths 6. Hüsker Dü - Zen Arcade 5. The Raincoats - Moving 4. The Replacements - Let It Be 3. Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime 2. Cocteau Twins - Treasure 1. The Fall - The Wonderful and Frightening World of The Fall Some fabulous albums came out this year, but the most frightening just so happened to be my favourite. Absolute classic from The Fall. Some nice Punk floating around but I can't post this without mentioning just how beautiful Treasure is. What a phenomenal band.

10. The Chameleons - What Does Anything Mean? Basically 9. Minutemen - 3-Way Tie (For Last) 8. Esplendor Geométrico - Comisario de la luz / Blanco de fuerza 7. The Cure - The Head on the Door 6. The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy 5. Hüsker Dü - Flip Your Wig 4. Tom Waits - Rain Dogs 3. The Fall - This Nation's Saving Grace 2. Hüsker Dü - New Day Rising 1. The Replacements - Tim This is a pretty great list of albums in my opinion. And most certainly one of my better years. I love all of these albums, but 1 through 6 are particularly important to me. Every one of them were discovered quite early on in my musical journey. All of them occupy a pretty big space in my heart. But Tim.. my god. That album is so utterly fantastic I can't really put it into words. Sure, there's a some tracks a few people may consider 'filler', but not to me. I like every song. I think it all fits together perfectly. As for the rest, a big shout out to Esplendor Geométrico. Awesome band.

10. Cocteau Twins - Victorialand 9. The Gruesomes - Tyrants of Teen Trash 8. Youth of Today - Break Down the Walls 7. Bad Brains - I Against I 6. Sonic Youth - EVOL 5. The Mission - Gods Own Medicine 4. Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill 3. Shop Assistants - Will Anything Happen 2. The Chameleons - Strange Times 1. John Zorn - The Big Gundown So I will start this by saying I haven't listened to most of these albums for YEARS. Only Licensed to Ill, Victorialand and Gods Own Medicine (an album I only know because my Dad had it hidden away on vinyl) have been played within the last year to my recollection, so maybe this list would alter if I went through them all again. That said, I am pretty sure The Big Gundown would be my #1. I absolutely love that album. I'd probably say the rest of that Top 4 are nailed on too, all outstanding albums.

10. The Jesus and Mary Chain - Darklands 9. Tom Waits - Franks Wild Years 8. Hüsker Dü - Warehouse: Songs and Stories 7. Michael Jackson - Bad 6. Boogie Down Productions - Criminal Minded 5. Swans - Children of God 4. Pixies - Come On Pilgrim 3. Ronald Shannon Jackson - When Colors Play 2. Dinosaur JR - You're Living All Over Me 1. Melvins - Gluey Porch Treatments As with my previous list, I haven't listened to most of these for quite a long time so I had to rely on memory. I think it all looks pretty much right though. Lots of fantastic albums here, but it's not really one that I would consider to be a favourite. I does include my favourite Michael Jackson album, and one of the better Swans releases I have heard. The only setback I have for this list is that I don't really feel any strong pull to give any of them a listen. Even the Pixies album (which I have listened to the most) isn't a draw for me any more. Solid year.
