I'm surprised by some of the albums that didn't make it to your 1970 list...here are a few that would easily make mine from that year:

Neil Young - After the Gold Rush
Led Zeppelin - III
George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
The Stooges - Fun House
Grateful Dead - American Beauty
Nick Drake - Bryter Layter
Santana - Abraxas (one of two Santana albums I actually enjoy)

Just to name a few. Maybe our taste is different, but I thought 1970 was a great year. I do like your choices as well, though - especially Bitches Brew...so no real argument there (except the Captain Beefheart albums...I'm with Sidewinder on those).

Sabbath and Stooges were the closest to making the list. Not really a huge fan of the others. But some good albums for sure.

1971

http://metal-jerks.com/wp-content/up.../10/satori.jpg

10. Faust - Faust
9. David Bowie - Hunky Dory
8. Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
7. Gilberto Gil - Gilberto Gil
6. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin [IV]
5. The Doors - L.A. Woman
4. Comus - First Utterance
3. Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate
2. Can - Tago Mago
1. Flower Travellin' Band - Satori

I may be wrong, but I think this is the first year which has three five star albums for me. That Top 3 stacks up with anything so far, or any year I will discuss in the future. My favourite Cohen and Can albums, and the wondrous joy that is Satori. Also the best Led Zep album, and the only one I would listen to with any regularity (actually I am gonna out it on now). Gilberto Gil is a bit of an obscurity, but it's a fantastic Samba/Folk/whatever album.

Overall, this is a great year for me, and so many very good albums I didn't have room for.

Gilberto Gil is great...have you heard his collab with Jorge Ben called "Gilberto e Jorge"? It's really damn good.

I have a feeling that I have, but I'll go ahead and listen anyway.

1972

10. Deep Purple - Machine Head
9. David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
8. Genesis - Foxtrot
7. Big Star - #1 Record
6. Eddie Kendricks - People...Hold On
5. The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St.
4. Aphrodite's Child - 666
3. NEU! - NEU!
2. Can - Ege Bamyasi
1. Captain Beyond - Captain Beyond

This one is the big time ladies and gentlemen. This list of albums is fantastic in my view, some absolutely outstanding records. Probably the most 'heavy' year for me so far, too. With two absolute Heavy Rock classics in Captain Beyond and Machine Head. The best Kendricks and Stones albums in my view, as well as the undisputed Foxtrot. Can and NEU! holding it down in the name of Krautrock. Overall a fantastic year.

I don't really have much time for The Who these days.
