I'm going to go back through it and make updates, but other than that I'll probably leave it as it is. It's served its purpose after all.

Longer form reviews/commentaries are something I'll consider trying in another journal soon.

This journal is among the very best resources for discovering new music I have ever come across.

2015

10. Ought - Sun Coming Down
9. Low - Ones and Sixes
8. The Weeknd - Beauty Behind the Madness
7. Chelsea Wolfe - Abyss
6. Lana Del Rey - Honeymoon
5. Clarence Clarity - No Now
4. Death Grips - Jenny Death
3. Colleen Green - I Want to Grow Up
2. Algiers - Algiers
1. Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion

So here it is then. I suppose I can't start anywhere other than the top. Carly stepped up another level and blessed us with some absolutely inspiring pop tunes. Not only that, she had a few low-key ballads that totally did the opposite of suck. I can't overstate how much I have loved this album since it's release, and it sits firmly up there with my favourite albums ever.

Other than that, we have some thoroughly excellent albums. But I'll hold back on discussing them too much because some of them are likely to appear on the "Official Top 20" list Manky is making.

Not to be pedantic, Goof, but that would be overstate, not understate. Sorry.

Also, you reminded me I need to listen to that Algiers album. At least, I don't think I did yet.... No, I'm pretty sure I meant to, but didn't. Pop it on the list for after Christmas.

Wow! You're right: I did. And loved it. It's odd, I looked at the tracklisting and it didn't seem familiar, but yeah, you're spot on again.

I'm really surprised that Carly Rae is getting this kind of acclaim. I mean, people are putting it as their number 1. And Jespen had an iffy history amongst music junkies before, being nearly passed off as another radio star like Bruno Mars or Taylor Swift. However, she's got good ratings for Emotion.

There's a certain section of the music nerd-sphere that embrace pop tunes, ironically or not. So even her (and other artists) most famous and "iffy" songs have a place in the community.

However, I don't think this album cones under that bracket. It's not cheesy teeny pop post-post-irony, it's just pop music. Well structured, written, produced and performed. The fact it was released by Carly undoubtedly enhances it's appeal to some (including myself) but those who disliked her earlier work could easily enjoy it.
