And now for something completely different.
Genre: Hip-Hop Mindlessly addicting despite the fact that the entire album is minimalist to the extreme. The only negative I can see is "Wake Up" which is just a tad annoying. Everything else is gold. Perfection. |

Screaming For Vengeance - Judas Priest I apologize for going out of order, but I will do Point Of Entry another time. Judas Priest continues the pop metal/kick ass sound they laid down with British Steel, but a tad more varied. "The Hellion" opens the album with searing power chords, and segues right into "Electric Eye." The guitar tone is a high-point for sure. "Bloodstone" has an awesome intro that careens head on into the rest of the song. Honestly, this could be my favorite right here. Those riffs combined with the echo-effect on Halford's operatic singing is highly addicting. After a disappointing track in "(Take These) Chains," the listener is rewarded with the anthemic "Pain and Pleasure," which totally rules, though it sounds a bit out of place, and dare I say, country-ish? "Screaming For Vengeance" has some quick riffing and Halford sings very differently compared to the prior track. I am not sure why this song gets a lot of praise, Halford just sounds bad to me. "You've Got Another Thing Coming" is another solid track, but "Fever" is dull. The final track rectifies the tail end of this album with some solid guitar work, and intense, Robert Plant-like vocals from Halford.Style: Heavy Metal An impressive release from Judas Priest, and based on what I have heard about their last album, this is a whole lot better than that. /5
Did I mention that "Screaming For Vengeance" was my 666th Judas Priest track scrobbled? Last edited by Wpnfire; 02-11-2015 at 12:08 AM. |

An unusual hybrid, thrash/hardcore/doom, Journey Into Mystery is an appropriate title, given just how mysterious this combination of styles is for 1987. “Back From the Dead” gets you in the mood, laying the groundwork for the rest of the album with a slow riff that quickens instantaneously to thrash speed-level ownage. Singer Brian Lawrence’s hardcore-like shouts are interspersed between periods of long instrumental sections, and his emphatic, piercing shouts, which are at times, really high in the mix compared to everything else, are huge in adding depth to the prevailing sense of chaotic dispair the rest of the music is so good at creating.Genre: doom, thrash. “Bitterness And Hatred” and the opening track are the high-points for me. The former has a screeching-fast solo that sounds like nails on a chalkboard, and is just perfect. /5
Doom metal and I do not get along that well, but Lawrence’s vocals, the riffs, the lo-fi, dirty production, and in particular, the sound of the drums, are too good to resist. |

Wow that is all fantastic. I've had Celtic Frost in my library for some time, and I think I listened to them a while ago back in June, but I don't know; they didn't make an impression with me I guess.

That and they only have one member of CF... well Reed St. Mark was in the band for a little bit. Basically what I'm saying is Martin Ain is the man.
Some Apollyon Sun, although they weren't much to shake a stick at. Like mid era Godflesh plus Vanity/Nemesis style CF |
