Most of his work was for Barbie Keel's near Battle East Sussex an Animal Sanctuary...She took in every creature...But unfortunately she was not nice to people at all, so she did loose a lot of valuable volunteers..my husband took notice of the way she acted, he was there to raise money for the Animals not to concern himself with anything else. Yes we are very careful and mix with nobody except medical and shopping..no friends are mixing here as yet and talk to some neighbours from a distance only. We all need to take heed.

Plankton 06-22-2021 12:42 PM

Those look amazing! He definitely knows his way around a planer. lol Good stuff.

As for my expertise in the field, I just started doing a little bit of refurbishing of old furniture is all. Keeps me busy in between rounds of disc golf. I'm tackling a garbage bin for my next project.

How it started out. The bottom plank with the hinges kept falling off from shoddy materials/craftsmanship and also from not having any feet under it so it was sitting on the wood frame which includes the plank holding the hinges. Also, that green backer board is just tacked in place and I had to run a bead of caulk down each side to seal it up since there were some fairly large gaps.

https://i.imgur.com/CfsPQnc.jpg?1

Primed up the inside. The outside will be all white with some black accenting to match a piece thats already in place at my lady friends home.

https://i.imgur.com/QUIyLEm.jpg?1

The new feet are in place and the base plank is Gorilla Wood Glued in 3 separated places (top/mid/bot) and remounted. It'll be getting new black hinges and pull knob, then many coats of polyurethane after the white base coat. I'll post up a pic when it's all cured up.

Good to remake... he has made from an outside veggie bench into a table stand with shelf for our new Greenhouse we bought as a kit DIY and was suppose to be simple....SIMPLE... 6 months later it has been in many places & sited for evenness around the Garden, everytime we get as far as putting the PVC windows in the bloody thing will not let you...it has too be impossible so then gets packed up and back in the Workshop...where is has hardly got a mention for 2 months now...Like the British Carry on films actually...
so if the greenhouse ever gets erected then this would be general use for potting my plants or for growing seeds in pots..that kind of stuff..

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...=175&crop=fill

this is an image of the greenhouse

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...greenhouse.jpg
planes haha...Husband has flown and made some models and has a whole Chalet self build as a kit form... put up for that hobby and has not messed with them hardly since moving to France...He has a speed boat that is remotely operated, but something has gone wrong with it, so last time we were 'playing' with it the damn boat got stuck in the middle of the lake and lucky practice team of ski boarders went out and retrieved it for us..was so so funny at the time but actually wish we could get it going again..if it's the servo motor would cost too much so might just have to buy another at sometime...got a couple of good clear lakes within 15 minutes....the one a few minutes away has fishermen there a lot so they would not want us with a speed boat.....Have a good day, hasta la vista

p.s. short version lol

Plankton 06-22-2021 07:55 PM

Planes and boats are an expense for people with a lot of time and money. I like cheap and quick. lol Kidding... kinda. Thats gotta be frustrating to say the least though.

Here's some high speed action shots of the g-can progress:

I like seeing the progress of stuff and also I know when Hasbeen is doing a makeup or a makeover he keeps updating with a few people that are interested, it does spur him on..guess we are all like that, like a pat on the back when you do something yourself.
I can and do now look back and wish I had learnt a few other skills that come easy when your a nipper....Obviously my guitar playing is never going anywhere but I am now messing with my old organ I purchased in a charity shop one day in Hastings UK, bought it for my late Dad, in mind of him. It is from the 60's I guess an Elka and even have a book about it..says Elka's special features such as ELKAPLAY and AUTO BASS your stylings are easy and fun..haha they reckon anyway...The book says 1982 though sight and sound international inc. printed in the USA..have have a search on the web and read about it ....maybe an 80's organ then...got a photo somewhere stored...
https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...=278&crop=fill.
well obviously that is not it....that is a strange part of the house here though..no idea what could have been in there ,except it had a floor half way up inside so maybe a store for animals feed...it has the original floor, old cobbles in small slabs, like the end adjoined barn has as well, which is the other door at the back that does not get used as the front has wider doorway....it is a unpleasant area inside the barn the ladder upstairs is dangerous as very straight more like a ladder than stairs and the upper floor to initially walk on is planks..haha that is fitting for you, a tad anyway....half the planks are missing and the level is real bad..wants some serious work done on it.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...=175&crop=fill

aiready aired this one on here in the instrument thread..ignore my cheapo guitar and just take in the Elka Organ....weeds to pull now...cheers

Plankton 06-23-2021 07:50 AM

Did you hear about the guy who went streaking through a church? The Priest caught him by the organ.

https://i.imgur.com/MHr73Ik.png?1

She's a looker alright. I've dabbled in keys but I've never owned a keyboard/piano/organ so progress has been slow. I do play some guitar a little bit though.

...and thanks for the pat on the back. :thumb:

DianneW 06-23-2021 01:38 PM

corny joke alert....
Little Billy started playing organ when he was 5
Little Billy started playing organ when he was 5. He practiced and practiced every day. He had heard of this orchestra from his town that was really hard to get accepted into. This made him want to practice and practice even more. He even got private lessons with a skilled organist. Finally, the day came. He went to the audition room and started to play, but no sound would come out. The organ was broken. The judge immediately arranged for another organ. As Billy began to play, the organ also creaked and then ceased to make a sound. The judge arranged for yet another organ for Billy, but that one broke down as well. The judge suddenly collapsed to the ground.

At the hospital, the doctors pronounced the judge dead and performed an autopsy.

"The cause of death appears to be multiple organ failure."

Priest and Alter Boys Alert Joke....never known USA humour, so just saying funny to me but......

The village priest went out to collect his freshly laid eggs on Sunday morning and realised his cockerel was missing.
At morning service he decided to ask his parishioners if they had seen it.
"Has anyone got a cock?" the priest asked.

All the men stood up!
"No, no," said the priest, "I meant has anyone seen a cock this morning?"
All the women stood up!
"No, no," said the priest again, "I meant, has anyone seen a cock that doesnt belong to them?"
Half of the women stood up!

"No, no, no!" exclaimed the priest. "What I meant was, has anyone seen my cock this
morning?"
The altar boys and organist all stood up and the priest fainted!

I'm carrying this stuff over from the Disc Golf thread so it's not completely derailed and while there's no Furniture Restoration thread anywhere here, not that I'd expect there be one, I figure this is as good of a spot as any. A bit of a hobby of mine, and I set up that huge wall of speakers in my garage to listen to stuff while I work on things, so this is what I'm doing while I'm listening. Sometimes. Lots of Yes and Goose in the background for this one, iirc.

...and it aint a disc golf rack but here's my next completed piece. A garbage/recycling bin redone to match another piece of existing furniture for a friend.

List of modifications:
  • Disassemble (the hinges were busted and the bottom plank was loose and just pinned with pin nails, also the handle/knob was old and loose with no anchors to keep it from spinning)
  • Sand with 100/150/220
  • Paint interior with flat black spray paint
  • Tape off painted areas
  • Fill holes/gaps in face board mounted to the wood drawer frame with wood putty
  • Run a bead of caulk around inside perimeter of face board/wood frame
  • Paint exterior with flat white ceiling paint (for texture)
  • Resand exterior with 150/220
  • Remount bottom hinge plank using liberal amount of wood glue and existing pin nails
  • Fill old hinge mount holes with wood putty
  • Paint exterior with gloss white (6 coats)
  • Wood glue bottom support planks in place (they were also only being held together with just pin nails)
  • Mount foot nubs to bottom support planks to get the frame up off of the floor
  • Mask off accent areas where the wooden rivets/nubs are to achieve a rectangular bracket look
  • Paint masked off areas gloss black
  • Reassemble using new black handle/knob and new heavier black hinges

I added a sound bar to it lately. I got it free from my friend who moved so what the heck why not. It added some full centeredness to the overall sound. Very immersive, even though it cuts a bit of the L/R channel separation a bit. I also noticed I had the PA set to only the two channels, so I switched it over to Passive which includes the Sub. What a difference!

Auld Lang Syne

Glad you're enjoying them Dianne. That Leopard is at my friends place, who I restored the bin for. Her sister painted it in some sort of single day wood & wine workshop class or something like that. She'ss since passed from cancer, but yes she was very good with animals and volunteered at the local PAWS shelter every week. Personally, I struggle even with keeping house plants alive, so I'm not sure how my daughter's made it this far. lol

Love the HH pic. Neat little creatures, and the phrase "Explain it to me like I'm a 4th grader" was created because of me, so no problem there.

Also, you're good for conversation, and there's a lot of people who aren't. That's a huge part of being human, so you've got the most important part of all of this down pretty good, I'd say.

I'm always glad to see you respond, so thank you!
