Thee Oh Sees - Floating Coffin (2013) Superb stuff from these guys. Pretty sorry I missed out on it last year to be honest. More plays might bump it up. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Hozier - Take Me to Church (2013) [EP] Pretty damn good Chamber Pop EP. Hoping these guys release some new material this year. Would like to see a little more edge to them on a full length release, but their sound works great as an EP. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Electric Six - Fire (2003) Thoroughly entertaining and fun as hell, all the way through. 4/5 ---------------------------------------- The Bad Plus - Prog (2007) Pretty damn cool album. Maybe a little too drawn out. But I feel as though it needed a few more shorter tracks - with vocals - to break up the long improvised jams. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Bohren & der Club of Gore - Piano Nights (2014) Superb musicianship here. My only issue is the lack of variation. It just kind of bores me in parts. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Thee Oh Sees - Castlemania (2011) Not one of their best albums but I still dug the majority of it. 3/5 ---------------------------------------- Self Defense Family - Try Me (2014) The Angelique Gauthier parts are pretty great. The rest is so-so post-hardcore garb. 2.5/5

Lumbar - The First and Last Days of Unwelcome (2013) Seriously doomy doom metal. Would like more head banging moments but, for what it is, it's very good. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Arctic Monkeys - AM (2013) Basically an album that relies heavily on stand out tracks, but those tracks are freaking good. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Scrambled Eggs and Friends - Scrambled Eggs and Friends (2010) This is some cool as fuck noisy jam randomness that I thoroughly dig in parts. The problem is that is gets slightly drawn out (a 21 minute track that doesn't really go anywhere, for example). Still, really interesting. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- The Coathangers - The Coathangers (2007) Super lovely beautiful women making music I enjoy. Life is good sometimes. 4/5 ---------------------------------------- Puya - Fundamental (1999) Kinda Nu-Metal mixed with salsa and some rap. And it's thoroughly meh. (aside from a few tracks) 2/5 ---------------------------------------- Young Fathers - Dead (2014) Underwhelming. Some tracks are very good, but ehhhhh. Do better next time guys, you have it. 3/5 ---------------------------------------- The Thing - Action Jazz (2006) This is some fantastic improvisational Jazz. Completely excellent. 4/5 ---------------------------------------- Failure - Fantastic Planet (1996) Really damn good album. I feel this will grow on me substantially, but for now, I am not quite super in love with it. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- OneRepublic - Dreaming Out Loud (2007) Heh, this was a strange experience. I had no idea these guys made some of the more popular songs back in my teen days ("Stop And Stare" and "Apologize" specifically) and it was a pleasant surprise. Good album. 3.5/5

Mass of the Fermenting Dregs - ゼロコンマ、色とりどりの世界 (Zero Comma, Irotoridori no Sekai) (2010) Awesome album. It varies a little too much for me to define it as simply "post-hardcore". It's just damn good rock music, 4/5 ---------------------------------------- Sunn O))) & Ulver - Terrestrials (2014) Boring. What a let down. 2/5 ---------------------------------------- Have a Nice Life - The Unnatural World (2014) Pretty cool sorta shoegaze album. Nothing mind blowing here, but definitely worth a few more listens. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Milanese - Extend (2006) Wow, this is killer. Look at that cover. It sounds like the cover. Primal dubstep/drum 'n' bass epicness. 4/5 ---------------------------------------- Katy B - Little Red (2014) The lack of sugary sweetness is much appreciated Katy. It's simply a very good electronic pop album. 3.5/5

Glad to see you're getting into Jay Munly. Munly & the Lee Lewis Harlots is probably one of the best albums of the last decade, although its length can be a little deterring. Jimmy Carter Syndrome is kind of like a condensed version of it, but I think his later albums really benefited from having a larger strings section. If you haven't checked out his 2010 album Petr & the Wulf I'd highly recommend that.
Definitely start paying attention to this. Only wish I had when you started it. |

I definitely preferred Munly & the Lee Lewis Harlots but I need to listen to them again.
And thanks. I am going to compile them into rating brackets in the OP at some point too.

The Cog Is Dead - Steam Powered Stories (2010) Comedic 'Rock Opera' that is just there. Nothing outright bad about this album, but nothing of real note. 2.5/5 ---------------------------------------- B. Dolan - The Failure (2008) This is truly epic. Some of the most emotionally charged music I have heard in a while. Great themes/lyrics and nice dark beats. 4/5 ---------------------------------------- Fat White Family - Champagne Holocaust (2013) Pretty cool weirdo band. Lacks something that makes it unique or truly interesting, but good nonetheless. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Milanese - Adapt (2007) [EP] Pretty nice collection of remixes here, but not quite as intriguing as the original tracks. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Melt-Banana - Fetch (2013) This is a good album that simply didn't do much beyond that. Noisy and all over the place, but lacked a little cohesion. 3/5 ---------------------------------------- Milanese - 1Up (2004) [EP] Bleh. Kind of interesting but didn't hook me in at all. 2.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Milanese - Lockout (2009) Following the trend of "meh" releases after the brilliant 'Extend'. 3/5

Natalie Imbruglia - Glorious: The Singles 97-07 (2007) [Compilation] Some good stuff, but mainly trash. Still love "Torn" though. 2.5/5 ---------------------------------------- OneRepublic - Waking Up (2009) For whatever reason I am digging Pop music now more than ever, but this is clearly average overall. 2.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Justin Timberlake - Essential Mixes (2010) [Compilation] The songs drag on a little bit but fuck, it's JT. 3/5 ---------------------------------------- Justin Timberlake - 20/20 Purple Experience: The Mixtape Version (Chopped Not Slopped) (2013) [DJ Mix] Just. You gotta listen to it. Whilst uncomfortably wincing. 1.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Justin Timberlake - FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006) It's okay, but I was completely bored at points. 2.5/5 I think it's fair to say that this journal is at least proving me to be a worthy co-winner of "Most Diverse Taste".

Lizzy Mercier Descloux - Mambo Nassau (1981) Really good disco/funk album. She's a bit of a star. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- The Raincoats - The Kitchen Tapes (1983) Going to assume this was actually recorded in a kitchen. Just doesn't stack up to their other projects that I have heard. 2/5 ---------------------------------------- Johnny Dowd - Temporary Shelter (2000) I expected to like this a lot more than I did. It's not quite doing it for me, even if it has some elements of 'Gothic Country' that I do enjoy. 2.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Amerigo Gazaway - Yasiin Gaye: The Departure (Side One) (2014) This shit is fantastic. Amerigo Gazaway does it again. 4/5 ---------------------------------------- Beck - Morning Phase (2014) Pleasant and boring. Nothing hit me at all. It wasn't awful or even bad for one single second, but it wasn't great at any moment either. Not even 'Blue Moon'. 2.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Houndmouth - From the Hills Below the City (2013) Now this album was really, really good. The kind of Alt-Country that just lifts you and takes you along on the ride. Fantastic. 4/5

Wild Moth - Over, Again (2013) Good emo stuff. Little repetitive, but I am aware that it's asking too much for a hugely varied emo album. 3/5 ---------------------------------------- Aesop Rock - Appleseed (1999) [EP] So yeah, I actually haven't listened to everything Aesop Rock has released. Good, but nothing special when it comes to his discography. 3/5 ---------------------------------------- Aesop Rock - Music for Earthworms (1997) Yes, yes. I hadn't heard this before. Quit looking at me that way. Really, I am an Aesop Rock fanboy. I AM god damn it. 3.5/5 ---------------------------------------- Avicii - True (2013) Some decent songs, some trash songs. 'Addicted To You' is my highlight. 2/5 ---------------------------------------- Barefoot Dance of the Sea - Beneath Closed Eyes (2012) This album does not exist to blow minds, and it doesn't. Bland and inoffensive, with elements of smile-inducing songwriting, but just not that good. 2.5/5 ---------------------------------------- The Roaring Girl Cabaret - In Last Night's Party Clothes (2008) Pretty neat cabaret album. Heard much better, but this is a vibe I vibe with. 3/5
