Opinion on... Rocka Rolla

Artist:
Judas Priest
Album: Rocka Rolla
Year: 1974
Chronological position: Debut album
Genre: Heavy metal/hard rock

Wpnfire put up a review of this album last saturday (link), and it sparked some discussion. The reviewer seems to love it, while Unknown Soldier claims that it's the band's worst album. I didn't really know what to think, having not yet heard it. But now I have!

While I don't think it's absolutely terrible, I have to say... it's prerry boring. It lacks that booming energy of the following album, Sad Wings of Destiny, and it's just... there, without really standing out in any way. No killer riffs, no exceptional vocal performances, not even any standout tracks, just a piercing filler feel. Luckily, the band went for a heavier, more moody sound on the next album, and they nailed it.

2.5/5
