I don't think it's as much "terrible" as "mediocre and irritating", but I have little to no desire to listen to it again.

I've never heard this huge change in sound between this and Sad Wings Of Destiny that everybody seems to go on and on about.
Judas Priest pretty much sounded the same for their first 4 albums.

If you had a copy of it before it was remastered for CD in the late 80s I can understand not liking it because it sounded really muddy and awful. But since it's been cleaned up I don't think it really sounds much different to their other 70s output.

Good review. Kinda disagree on the "only for the money" part though. They made the songs like that to please James' and Kirk's egos. I also agree with The Batlord that it's kinda underrated. Still not the best work they've done.

I actually really like both Load and St.Anger but then again I'm not a hardcore Metallica fan, meaning that I don't spend all day like some people comparing them to Metallica's well known classic albums and moaning how the band went downhill after Master of Puppets;)

I declare the rest of the week, starting today, is Nickelback Week! It's just like Justin Bieber Week, where I proposed the challenge of listening to Justin Bieber's Believe album and reviewing it. This time it's Nickelback, and their Silver Side Up album.

I decided to put the album up against Iowa by Slipknot, because of the discussion sparked in this thread. It makes a little bit of sense to compare those two albums, since both were released in 2001.

I can make out a few words sung by that horrible screaming voice, and they're mostly “**** people”, “**** you”, “**** my life” and the like. The music isn't anything special either, it's all just noise to my ears. The drummer isn't all that bad, but the way he plays does not appeal to me in any way. Did I say that this album is over an hour long? Because that's too long, especially when the album is bad.

This is bad. Real bad. Not the funny kind of bad, but the bad kind of bad. The singer sounds like he's struggling to take a sh*t, the guitar riffs are downright lazy, and the whole thing is excessively polished and shiny. Luckily, the album is at a reasonable length of 39 minutes, though that's an awfully long time to listen to Nickelback. Has anyone noticed that it was released the same day as the 9/11 attacks occurred?

Yeah, it's been a while. Anyway, the trouble with this album is that there were two versions released at the same time: an English one, and a Swedish one. I chose to listen to the English one, but the Swedish one may be a thousand times better, without me knowing it.

This was an alright power metal album, but there are a couple of things that bug me. First is the general sound of the album: the production is too clean. Second, those goddamn synthesizers are WAY too prominent and annoy the hell out of me. Those are the two things that stop me from truly enjoying this album and considering giving it a higher rating.

Even if you add the score up of these two albums together, they still only get 3/5 and that just goes to show how crap they are. But I guess Slipknot could complain that Nickelback are bringing their average down.
