Experience Music Project A museum of art and music in the city of Seattle So, we have a piece of art in the city of Seattle, known as the Experience Music Project, or EMP for short. It's got exhibits, practice studios, and one of the biggest TV screens known to man. Well, as far as I know anyway. I've gone many times before, but yesterday was definitely a day to remember. We saw the Star Wars exhibit which there are pictures posted in the Member Picture Gallery, but on top of that, we saw the tower of guitars that is located in one of the hallways... It's not just a tower of guitars though. If you take a closer look when you're looking at it, you'll see guitars from some of the most famous guitar players known to man. Some are hard to see since the tower is two stories tall, but you can find some that'll tickle your fancy. Alongside that, we saw two exhibits that i've never seen before, but were fantastic in their own right... The Jimi Hendrix Exhibit The Jimi Hendrix Exhibit had everything from outfits that Hendrix himself wore, to the guitars that he played, all the way to the postcard that he sent to his father, which had the address of Seattle, WA on it. Many articles and letters were also seen along the walls as well as concert photos, and posters. Everything you'd want to see about Hendrix was located here. Along with that... Nirvana Exhibit The Nirvana exhibit was also available for us to walk through and enjoy. This was full of wardrobes, concert posters, and even pictures that Cobain himself was in while him and his band were on tour. They had vinyl records in frames, letters, backpacks, and things that would even degrade over time due to their age. Broken guitars were also seen in cases. Can't tell you how many of those I walked by. If you're ever in my neck of the woods, let me know. I would absolutely love to show anyone who's interested this museum. It's one of the best things Seattle has to offer, and to be able to live where this is located really makes me even more happy to live here. |

The return of...
I was sad to see that I kind of let the dust build up on one of my favorite types of entries in my journal. "Worth The Hype?" is a section that I did a while back where I will take bands that are so hyped up. And I mean hyped up in the sense that they get talked about a lot upon different types of music forums and platforms, and I basically reach a verdict for said band as to whether or not they are worth the hype. Keep in mind that anything I say about a band is strictly my own opinion, and that my word doesn't necessarily mean that it's right. I mean...I said Nirvana isn't worth the hype. Can you believe that? Sure you can. Anyway, it'll be the same layout as before, i'll be using one of two of these nifty little images seen below... And I will pretty much be either talking highly of a band, or I will be talking complete **** about them. It's always a lot of fun as I just enjoy talking about popular bands and ****ting all over them. Just kidding, maybe. Anyway, stay tuned for a post following this one. |

You're saying to yourself right now..."man, you're really going to start with Pink Floyd to bring back Worth The Hype?" Well yes, I am. Why bother pussyfooting around when I could just get right into it with one of the most successful bands out there. Plus, I feel like talking about Pink Floyd, sue me. Anyway, yes, we have Pink Floyd up on stage and we are going to dive in and see if we can reach a verdict as to whether or not they are worth all the hubbub they get across numerous platforms. Most people know Pink Floyd when they hear the name Roger Waters, and even more people know Pink Floyd when you mention albums like Wish You Were Here, and The Dark Side of the Moon. And sometimes people recognize the name when you go all the way back to the Piper at the Gates of Dawn era, which is pretty cool too. I'm of the opinion that the Roger Waters era of Pink Floyd is the far superior of the two different sides of Floyd that people talk about. I'm of course speaking of the whole Waters vs Barrett argument. And I know there are a lot of people out there who will say that if Syd Barrett stuck through the hard times and stayed with Pink Floyd, they'd be far better off. Well, all I can say is that you're wrong. But I digress, let's really get into this shall we. Let's talk about their discography, and i'm speaking specifically their studio albums. We've got albums like Animals, The Division Bell, Wish You Were Here, The Dark Side of the Moon, and Meddle, to name a few. All very very fantastic albums. But on the other side, we've got albums like A Saucerful of Secrets, and Ummagumma, which...aren't all that great, in my opinion anyway. I just couldn't get into them as much as I could the later albums, but that could easily be the cause of me getting into Pink Floyd with their later albums, so I has already associated the later album sound with Pink Floyd, which meant any different sound just seemed...wrong. Not to say they're terrible albums, but...yeah they're pretty bad. The hype that surrounds Pink Floyd however does come from the later albums as well, which are the ones I mentioned above. One that is hugely the main focus of all the hype does go to The Dark Side of the Moon. That leads to an important question though. Does one album justify the amount of the hype that the band got as a whole? Is the hype that surrounds the band as a whole worth it in the long run? The verdict comes to... Yes, I do believe that the hype that surrounds one album as much as it does definitely justifies the hype that the band gets as a whole. The thing is, if I personally never heard of The Dark Side of The Moon through means of radio or music forums, I never would have really bothered looking into their other albums. I mean, sure, I would have eventually found out about them and gave them a listen, but being exposed to such an album that Dark Side is, really put a huge impact on how I felt Pink Floyd should sound, which could explain why I like the sound of the later albums. Am I wrong? Maybe, but hey, they win in my book, no matter what people say about *cough* Endless River *cough*. |

So, I don't know if i'm the only person that has gone to this site, I really hope i'm not: Everybody! Everybody!. Anyway, i'm not posting that to promote the site. God knows it really doesn't need it. What I am doing however is pointing out some of the best gems that this site had to offer, musically. Yes, this site with it's skits were full of some super catchy songs that have probably stuck with most kids as they grew up. Honestly, anyone who was 13 years old 10 years ago should've heard of this site. Here are some of those wonderful gems i'm talking about... The infamous Trogdor skip to 2:31 Then we have ... The whole thing is just gold. The best introduction to learning guitar that you could get. And lastly we have the wonderful introduction to the entire site: Yeah, this is something different from what you'd usually see in this journal, but it was in my head, and hey, it does relate to music. I have weird thoughts sometimes and this being a music journal, I feel it's fair to post it here, even if it doesn't fit within it's own section. Don't judge me. |

pg.lost - In Never Out Alright, so i'm guilty of talking about this band way way too much, but I have my reasons, I really do. This band is not only one of the more underrated post-rock groups out there, they are also deserving of more attention for how consistent they are with how their albums sound. In Never Out is a great example of that. In Never Out was released on November 12th 2009. Before that, we had It's Not Me, It's You! and Yes I Am, but In Never Out is special in it's own right, as is those other albums in the sense that it brings an even more powerful feel of music than the albums that came before it. It's funny, because I actually started listening to pg.lost when I heard It's Not Me, It's You!, and once I heard they released the wonderful album titled "Key", I sort of skipped over In Never Out without even realizing, and man what a mistake that was. Every here knows that I will do whatever I can, and do it whenever I can to talk about Key as being one of the best albums I ever heard. That is still my opinion of this day, but it's wonderful to be able to say that In Never Out comes very close to bringing Key down to 2nd in terms of my all time favorite albums. This album has everything you'd expect to hear from a pg.lost album, but they do it in a way where your expectations are blown out of the water and you're left with something truly amazing. Key did the same exact thing but did it just a tad bit better. It's safe to say that these two albums are almost head to head in being my favorite album, so I guess I can choose both as my favorite, in some way. Seriously though, this album does have it's own way of really making you believe that this band really wants to make their music known, and they do it so well that it feels like the band members were meant to find each other in order for them to make albums like this. And yes, I do have some favorite tracks, but I want to choose one because when I heard it for the first time, it just blew me away, and continues to do that in traditional pg.lost fashion... Honestly, you owe it to yourself to give this album a listen, if not just to get me to stop rambling on about how amazing pg.lost are, but i'm never going to stop doing that, so you may as well give into the peer pressure and listen along with me. I don't do this with many bands, if any others at all, but I really want people to see what I see when I listen to this band. The band members work so perfectly with one another and they create such beautiful music that must be heard by everyone. Upon discovering how great this album truly is, it's safe for me to say that I have not heard a pg.lost album that is anything but truly amazing. |

Now what kind of person would I be if I didn't treat every holiday as a day to express my love for anything that is metal. C'mon, it just fits so perfectly. Anyway, yeah, for Valentines day here at my journal, i'm going to be posting some of my favorite heavy metal / death metal songs that have something to do with love or hearts in some way, call me crazy but there are a lot of them out there. We'll start off with something easy... Cannibal Corpse - Stripped, Raped and Strangled You really think I wasn't going to include a Cannibal Corpse song in any of this. I only went with this one because just looking at the song title, it's easy to see that there is a lot of love going around with this band. I mean, who wouldn't want to be stripped, raped and strangled on Valentines Day? You don't? Well you're crazy. Next one we have... Judas Priest - Prisoner of Your Eyes Yeah, I was able to fit a bit of Judas Priest into this one, sue me. There's no other love song you could go with when you really want to send the message that you really care for someone. I mean, with lyrics like "And i would do just anything, to stay and be with you", and "you came along and captured me, now im a prisoner of your eyes". Yeah, you're probably thinking "where's all the heavy Judas Priest stuff?", well imaginary friend, Priest were also very good at writing songs with some meaning to them, and I mean they did them well, especially with Halford on the vocals. Last one for today, I think we'll go with... Cradle of Filth - Temptation Oh c'mon, you think I was going to try to slip a Cradle of Filth track into this one, of course I was. This comes off one of the only Cradle of Filth albums I could really get into it titled "Thornography" and for good reason, since I didn't really find myself being able to enjoy any of their albums. I always found this track to be one of the catchier tracks on the album, but there were plenty of others, I just enjoyed this one the most for some reason, and hey, it fits here. Happy Valentines Day everyone. |

This is a section that I hinted at when I came back from my break, and I decided to make it's debut today. It's basically a place where i'll be seeing if I enjoy or not enjoy albums that members of this forum are talking about, or raving about in the forums. There's a few on my list that I want to get out of the way right away, but that'll come with time. There was an album that I saw a few members raving about, and I decided to give it a listen myself. It was being discussed in the Albums Your Digging thread, and seeing the album artwork and the name associated with it, I was intrigued off the bat: Jeff Bridges - Sleeping Tapes There's one word to describe this, bizarre. It's bizarre in a good way. Honestly, I went into this not really knowing what to expect, and when I found a website that provided it, I read at the top "sit back, close your eyes, and nod off." If I were ever to nod off to an album like this, I can't imagine the images my mind would make whilst this is going on. It'd be something that resembles the images that someone who is baked off their mind would imagine. But like I said, this is bizarre in a good way, and i'm really diggin' the sound this album has with it. It's nothing really traditional, so don't go in expecting something super amazing, but for something that is supposed to go with the concept of trying to help people sleep, well, i've heard some of those types of cd's, and this one is definitely up there with being one of the better ones i've heard. Well deserving of the praise it's getting at this forum, because i'm definitely enjoying it. Last edited by Key; 02-14-2015 at 04:09 PM. |
