Madball

So I'm chillin' in my bedroom one day thinking about what a shitty day I'd just had. I was fired from my job, my car got rear-ended by some asshole with no insurance, and my girlfriend had just filed a restraining order against me. That bitch. So I did the only thing I could do to forget that the world had just had diarrhea in my mouth. I put on Madball's debut album, Set It Off. As soon as I pressed play, Freddy Cricien, Madball's vocalist, busted a hole in my wall and stalked into my room. He then stepped up to me and punched me in the face. I was knocked back against the wall, and then he kicked me in the chest. This knocked the wind out of me and dropped me to the floor. He then kicked me in the face, shattering my nose. Blood was now gushing down my face and soaking my shirt. Crician proceeded to repeatedly punch me in the face, pounding my head against the wall, and knocked several of my teeth out. Not content with this wanton brutality, he grabbed me by the hair and kneed me in the face, breaking my jaw. He then dragged me by the hair into the middle of my room and began kicking me in the stomach. I was pretty sure that he'd broken several of my ribs, and possibly ruptured one of my kidneys. Now he grabbed my hair again and started slamming my head into the floor. In the pool of blood under my face I saw what remained of my front teeth. For the next twenty-six minutes and thirty-eight seconds he continued to beat me senseless. After the album was over Cricien loudly hocked a loogey, and spat on my broken body. With that he knocked another hole in my wall and left, stealing my Spiderman comic books along the way. Summoning the last of my strength I managed to crawl to my stereo. Then I pressed play...

Spoiler for Generic click joke #746.:

I really enjoyed that, you're a really great creative writer. It inspires me to do more with my journal than just recommend music.

It's always nice to hear that my greatness can influence even the most inferior of people.

Death: Human

I love Death's first two albums, and Symbolic is pretty cool, even if it's not my favorite album on Earth. Spiritual Healing, was also pretty sweet, even if it was the first step to Death becoming boring, but Individual Thought Patterns was one of the most disappointing DM albums I ever bought. Just dull, self indulgent wank that sounds like a robot's idea of a death metal album. I've never really given Human the time of day since I imagined that it would be somewhere in between Spiritual Healing and Individual Thought Patterns. So, here goes...

Alright, it definitely doesn't sound anywhere near as dull as Individual Thought Patterns, so it already has a point in it's favor. It is much more technical and complex than their first two though, and I generally prefer my death metal raw, simple, and ugly, so I don't see this being my favorite Death album. I am intrigued though.

I can't say that I love this, but I definitely like it. It's furious as hell, and the complexity is always balanced by brutality. This album definitely feels like it probably gets better with multiple listens, since it's complex enough that it's not always as accessible as their earlier works, but not so much that it just becomes dull. I was worried that this was going to be an exercise in futility after the last two albums, but I have been pleasantly surprised by Human. Kewl.

Spoiler for Death awaits those who click.:

I'm not trying to be smart, but doesn't this belong in your other journal? Or are you merging them into one single entity of awesomeness? :bonkhead:

Also, where's that new epic you promised? Eh, eh? I won't live forever you know... :nono:

1. Goatpenis are one of the most hit or miss bands I've come across, even within the context of the same album.

2. I really, really, really like the sound of "Necrolust" on Live in Leipzig, especially after the one minute mark where the band just goes full tilt. Cymbals should always be really, really high in the mix.

I've always thought that Death had one of the best and most consistent discographys of any metal band. The only album I'd say was a slight letdown was Spiritual Healing, which you seem to like.

I agree. My two favorites are Symbolic and Human... Human just winning out by a little bit. I love how old school Death sounds these days, and those two albums are as old school as they get.

What can I say, I prefer my death metal ugly and raw rather than technical for the most part. Death's first two albums, Obituary, Grave, etc. If you're gonna be technical the brutality has to match like Suffocation or Nile.

How can you call yourself a metalhead when you're afraid to put Goatpenis into your ears?
