You strike me as the kind of person whose favorite Star Wars movie is A New Hope, cause that's the first one they saw.

Ah....well yes...did I ever mention that WASP is quite possibly my favourite metal band of all time???

I can't speak for the UK or Europe but in North America they were metal goliaths! I was in Elementary school when my friend and I got a hold of his older brothers "The Last Command" cassette, and that was that.

So if you can stick them in, it would be nice. Otherwise my requests are few and far between. Appetite for Destruction in the top 3 and that's about it.

Yeah, I'm gonna request the opposite of that, US. And since we've been buddies for longer, well... bros before hoes.

I'm not much of a Guns N' Roses fan but even I like some of that album

I was chastised today by a friend of mine for thinking of leaving W.A.S.P off my 1984 list ( a non member of the forum but reads the journal now and again) Have listened to the album again tonight and realize it should be back on.

1987 is too far off to know what's going on and what's not.

Awesome! F)ck Like a Beast did stir up a lot of controversy. Hey, if there's any room for Canada's Helix that would be cool to. Only because the song Rock You is a metal classic. Maybe you could bump off Bathory for them, heh heh, jk.

Hey BL, your pretty cool hombre (Despite appearing to favour Marvel over DC) thus it probably wasn't intentional, but could you please not refer to me in a quote that uses the above stated word in bold. Thank you.

You have crossed a line that cannot be uncrossed.

Sure, and I favor neither. All the DC cartoons from back in the day actually give me a greater fondness for them, even if I'm 50/50 about which company I actually like best.

There's always going to be that first impression, and "Star Wars" (**** this "A new hope" -- it'll always be Star Wars to me!) was one of the first sf movies I ever went to see, so yeah I'll usually put it above the others. But that doesn't always hold true. "Star Trek: the Motion Picture" was terrible, so despite being the first Trek movie I do not rate it. I'm not that shallow. But you have to take into consideration that I'm one of those, when it comes to Star Wars, who queued in the rain (Ireland, remember?) to see it on its release. DVDs? We didn't even have video recorders! An impression and a memory like that is going to be hard to beat. And really, did Lucas ever surpass the first movie, if you're truthful?

But just because something is first does not always mean it's the best. With NotB however, as I've already pointed out, it wasn't just my first Iron Maiden album, but my first Heavy Metal album. I bet you've got a soft spot for the debut from Suffocation or Disembowelled Corpse or Eyes on a Stick, or whomever got you into metal?

Yes and no. Yes, because the other two movies in the first trilogy are totally better, especially Empire Strikes Back---seriously, what about the first Star Wars can compete with Hoth, Dagobah, and Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker's duel in Cloud City?

No, because he only directed Star Wars and the new trilogy. I imagine if he'd directed ESB and RotJ that they'd have had all the problems that dragged down the first movie: poor dialogue; at times painfully b-rate set/costume design; story driven entirely by phlebotinum such as the Death Star, Death Star plans, the Force (yes the Force was in all of the movies, and yes RotJ used the Death Star again, but the first movie introduced all of them and pretty much relied entirely on them to move the plot). But really the worst part of the first movie was the awful dialogue. It's just awful sometimes.

lol, I knew that would get you, knowing UN's taste it would be funny though if he scrubbed Bathory to make way for Ratt or Dokken. I can envision the mayhem that would ensue.

The thing about ESB (hey! The Irish electricity company is called --- or was called --- Electricity Supply Board: ESB! ) is that the first twenty minutes or so of it is so blindingly WHITE that it hurt my eyes till they got off into space, so that sort of remains with me. "Jedi" is a great movie but I really think the first one (no I will not!) wins, after all it introduces all the characters, the Force, the Death Star, and the idea of space opera in a movie. Plus that unbelievable opening sequence with the destroyer! Come on: what do the other movies have that trump that?

Also: I forgot about Doctor Strange! Was that the weirdest comic ever to come out of Marvel or what? I loved that: devil worship in a comic book? By the Eye of Agamoto!

Oh god! You want to expand our Voyager journal to include sci-fi movies we compare to each other??
