I looked it up on Google. From what I've read it's more of a stereotype of Marines (that they're dumb enough to eat crayons) than it's an actual joke with an actual punchline.

Ah. The payoff wasn't worth it. Nice one, Charles.

The assumption was that you'd get it. I guess the meme is too old for you.

 I never thought of MCT (Marine Combat Training), SOI (school of infantry), or a POG (person other-than grunt) school as "Marine school" but thats an interesting description of them. lol Bootcamp is more "Marine school" because it focuses on traditions and basic weapons like a saw or m16

Marines in non-0300 MOS's (jobs) go to MCT, and infantry MOS's (0300's) go to a much longer training because its their job once they get to their unit. After MCT for POG's, they go to a MOS school, that can last up to a year sometimes if its military police. I was an 0352 in the infantry.

Congrats to your brother, the Marine Corps is a great organization

I really don't know anything about it but I'm learning! If only so I can keep up with his jargon when I see him at the end of the month lol. As far as I know this was boot camp, not sure what exactly is next for him, but he flies home (to wyoming) today and will be there until the new year at least.

He's definitely more of a boots on the ground kind of guy, I'm not sure how much you're able to choose your own path when serving, but obviously I would love it if he went into something more administrative or computer sciencey haha.

All that is pre-determined before bootcamp so its smooth transition from boot camp to MCT/SOI and then directly to MOS school after MCT or SOI, about what his job is, he most likely knows his MOS already if he finished bootcamp. If he wanted to be "boots on the ground" he'll definitely get that in an 0300 MOS. If hes an non-0300 MOS, he should make the most of his MCT because they rarely go to the field in their unit since they have normal jobs to do in the Marines.

And I have no clue where and when that crayons joke started, I got out in 2011 and its new since then. the OG dumb marine joke is that his head can fit inside a jar or something? who comes up with these?lol

Plankton 12-06-2019 10:06 AM

Jar Head: Unscrew top of skull, insert military training, screw top of skull back on.

Jody on the block told me that.

Isn't that the idea of all military training though? Break you down and rebuild you to their specifications?

It is yes, but the Marines are more rigid about it than the Army, Navy, and especially the Air Force. Those branches let you keep a smidge of your identity, the Marines wipe your hard drive clean and do a fresh install.

WWWP 12-06-2019 11:52 AM

I can see why he would be drawn to that branch. Cant wait to see what he makes of his life now that hes finally away from my dad.
