All drums are sequenced, and yes I'm playing Bass, Rythm, and Lead Guitar on all except "Canadian Mist", on that I'm playing just the rythm (clean/distorted) guitars and the lead, in which I'm using a stock wah from my HD500 pedal.

On "Shoveled", I used a VST instrument (FreeVST with Synthfont) for the synth sound in the opening and BG. I forgot to mention that to TH when he asked.

Well done, TH, for emphasising the way in which high quality music was created on, what is now, relatively primitive technology. The Beatles only had four tracks, but Paul McCartney has said they recorded on separate tracks and then put them on to one and then built it up layers of subsequent tapes.

In irritates me when people, with hindsight, call this sort of instrumental synthesizer music, new age. At the time, it seemed like a new form of symphnonic or classical music. Certainly, I would group Jarre's music with that of Vangelis, Mike Oldfield, Tangerine Dream and Dave Greenslade.

Jean-Michel is son of Maurice Jarre who wrote the scores for Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago, among many other films. If my memory serves me correctly, he also wrote the score for Caravan to Vaccares (1974), which starred Charlotte Rampling, Jean-Michel's future wife.

Jean-Michel Jarre's next album, Equinoxe, is almost as good as Oxygene. I was not aware of Oxygene Parts 7-13, so I will have to track them down.

JMJ!

Thanks for jarring (pun intended) my brain. I know what I'm puting in for the ride home tonight.

Let me see if I've got this right.
You do an entire musical tribute to the freedom of Nelson Mandela and yet you don't include Free Nelson Mandela by The Specials?

Yeah I thought about it but decided it was WAYYY too obvious. I wanted to get some music that was more subtly relevant. It's what I try to do with this section. Anyone can go for the blindingly obvious; I just prefer to be a little more original if I can.

Shock to the System is the best track on Union, but when they released a live version of the album, it was omitted.

Here's Jon in his pyjamas and don't ask what Steve Howe has done to his hair:

Wow, this is a really extensive journal. Good job Trollheart. I was reading some of your very early posts in here and everything is so well written and you go into so much detail about things. I noticed you have a couple of other ones too so I'll be looking at those ones as well.

Thanks Kid! Always nice to get a new visitor, specially someone who comments. If you're into TV or movies, you'll probably enjoy "The Couch Potato". Be sure to let me know if there's anything you want to see, like or don't: comment and debate always welcome.
