A unique list for sure. Low End Theory is the only record I would include in my imaginary list.

No 1980s?

Well billyjerome, here's some thoughts I have.

First off, Tupac ahead of Biggie? WTF are you thinking, you crazy bastard.

No Nas on the entire list... that's just plain sinful and wrong. Also no Wu Tang, but I can understand not having Wu more than I can understand not having Nas. Blasphemy.

Common at number 1 really surprised me, I didn't see that coming. I am gonna have to download that album, I've never heard it.

Reasonable Doubt at 3 I can't deal with. It's like I am the only person who just doesn't like Jay Z. Never really loved his flow and he's got a bunch of filler lyrics in my opinion. Reasonable Doubt is my favorite album of his, but I just can't dig him no matter how hard I try.

I'd take Tupac over Biggie too. Love that G-funk ****, plus I feel Tupac actually rapped about important things, Biggie was just telling stories. Don't get me wrong he had sick flow, but Tupac's songs really 'hit your eardrum like a slug to your chest', to quote a legend.

Enter the Wu-Tang is so much more superior to Illmatic IMO it's not even close. The diversity of that record is unrivaled. Obviously, due to the high number of rappers, but that doesn't change the fact.

I dig the madvillainy at #2. It almost makes up for your black star mistake. jk

Hey! I covered 2 albums from the 80s! Even though the 80s is the golden age of hip-hop, I really think it has came a long way from then. But I still like me some old school.

You know, I was surprised that 2Pac ended up ahead of Biggie but like Tuna said...

Also, I have mucho respecto for Wu-Tang and its fellow associates solo albums but eh, this is what I ended up with, for the time being, that is...

Dirty, or anyone else that hasn't listened to "Electric Circus", check back here after you have given it a shot and let me hear your thoughts!

Interesting list. Can't get over no Illmatic though. Also far too much Kanye for my liking.

First thing is first, LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM WITH HEADPHONES FOR THE FULL EFFECT. Now that we got that out of the way, why, might you ask is this my favorite hip-hop album? The entire recording has a great vibe to it. It may not be Common's catchiest album but as a collective it works so well. The production work is fantastic. I really dig the psychedelic aura. I don't know, honestly. Whilst cruising around getting high one day, I saw the album cover on my iPod and thought, 'Hey! It's the black Sgt. Pepper! Let's check it out!' History was made that day. As Common says, 'I Am Music.' Enjoy peoples.
I listened to this while doing laundry yesterday on my Zune. The first few tracks didn't it was hard for me to get into. I didn't like the beat on them so I had to channel it out and try to focus on his lyrics. He excels in that area as usual. I believe it was from the fourth track down that the album starts to get interesting production wise. I had to keep thinking if this album came out before Outkast's Aquemini or vice versa. I heard Aquemini before listening to this and I much prefer their album as oppose to this one for the same psychedelic feel that it has.

Aquemini is the older older of the two by several years.
