Mixtape Weekly
All readers are welcome but I know MB's hip hop heads will love this journal.
Each week I will post between two to four different mixtapes that I either discovered during the week or that are some personal favorites of mines. Feel free to join in and discuss some of your favorites. This week I will be discussing Kid Sister Kiss Kiss Kiss , Wiz Khalifa Kush and Orange Juice , Wale Mixtape about Nothing. Kid Sister Kiss Kiss Kiss The highlights of this mixtape are Daydreaming(Douster Remix), Lookout weekend feat. Nina Sky, Don't Stop movin' , Right Hand Hi(Caspa Remix), Paul Wall - Imma get it. The Caspa remix of Right Hand Hi is very dirty, dirty as in raw sounding. I'm pretty horrible with identifying sub genres of electronica but I'm pretty sure that this is dubstep or at least it sounds that way to me. Lookout Weekend I can see being a radio single if it isn't one yet. I don't know I don't listen to the radio. Paul Wall's Imma get it has such an awesome beat with deep bass. I love whenever it comes on. Wiz Khalifa Kush and Orange Juice The highlights of this mixtape is "In The Cut" I need to re-listen to this but that song stood out so much to me. He decided to sample Frou Frou's "Let Go" He made a video for the song and I love the atomsphere of it all. The setting is a house part but it fits so well with what he's saying and the sample. A true marriage made in mixtape heaven. Taylor Gang or die! Wale Mixtape about Nothing The highlights of this mixtape is "The Kramer" This is another mixtape I need to re-listen to because I remember there being two or three other great songs but this one stands out in my memory. He also has another great mixtape called Back to the Feature but I will talk about that another week. The Kramer starts out with Micheal what's his face the guy from Seinfeld cursing out his hecklers at the Laugh Factory. I don't blame him for shouting the word ****** at them because they were acting ******ish and I would have allowed it but he is a celebrity so they aren't going to let him fly with saying the word ******. I think it's so retarded that he had to go on national tv to apologize. Apologize for what!? So what he called some niggas "******", they deserved it. They were being mad disrespectful during his set. I doubt he's really racist in his heart but he was just annoyed. I don't agree with some of the things that Wale says on this track but he does have some good points. He touches on one of my pet peeves that I always tell people about it. I really hate when females complain about calling them bitches when they are with their friends and call each other bitches. Not all females are bitches but bitches and hos do exist like T.I. says. if anyone needs a link to any of these mixtapes just shoot me a PM.

crap, I sent someone the wrong copy of Wale's mixtape about nothing. If you see this send me another PM. I deleted your original PM for room. You have a copy of Wale's More about nothing, which is the continuation of mixtape about nothing that came out last year.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread, I wasnt the person who was missent the Wale mixtape, but I took it anyway as I havent heard that one yet. He's been good on the other mixtapes though, so I dont expect this'll be a disappointment (his version of Common's The Light is one of my favourite cover/remix/whatevers ever!). As for the Wiz Khalifa tape, The Kid Frankie is by far the best song on there in my opinion, its so good!! Really funky sounding, and it always reminds me of GTA Vice City back in the day for some reason.

This is a great idea for a thread, as it happens I've been getting into mixtapes recently and keeping an eye on the new releases. I'm listening to Kush & OJ now and the last mixtape I downloaded was Yelawolf's Trunk Muzik. I know its a bit old but I think it is great, my favourite mixtape I have downloaded so far.

This week I will be discussing Wiz Khalifa Cabin Fever, Eminem Straight from the Vault Ep and Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon III: Prequel To The Wizard
Wiz Khalifa Cabin Fever Honestly I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I was going to. Cabin Fever and GangBang are the only two semi-decent tracks. I think the main reason this mixtape is so popular is because of his "Black and Yellow" fame and recent fans. The beat for Cabin Fever is what makes me like that track only actually. Eminem Straight from the Vault Ep I love this EP so much there is only one track "Wee Wee" that I don't really like but the highlights of this mixtape is G.O.A.T. , Apple and Going Crazy feat. D12. G.O.A.T. I love the way he delivers this song. If you tried to do the same thing that he's doing you would definitely run out of breath if you don't have your breathing techniques down. I really want another D12 album to come out soon that's my main reason for loving Going Crazy was hearing D12 again even though Proof is missing. R.I.P. Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon III: Prequel To The Wizard I love these type of mixtapes where there are about 60 or so different tracks. Kid Cudi really delivers on this one. Sometimes these type of mixtapes is just a bunch of freestyles over popular songs but not with Cudi. He gives you a nice mixtape of original songs, freestyles, remixes of songs from his first and second album and some featured tracks with the likes of Lil Wayne, Asher Roth, Andre 3000. I honestly can't wait until The Wizard comes out. I have to research and see if there is a projected release date that he has in mind for it. I'm still listening to this album because it has so many tracks but a few standouts that I have noticed so far are : Hottest in the Hood Freestyle, RollerCoaster feat. Andre 3k, The Outcome feat. Lil Wayne, Cuditastic, Freestyle Jam with Asher Roth and Catch Up 1.

Totally agree on the Wiz Khalifa review, right down to the same songs for the same reasons even. I havent been impressed with any of his recent output in all honesty, the song with Too $hort was meh, as was the one with Snoop. I know that lyrically he isnt going to be on the G.O.A.T lists, but I enjoyed the delivery of his raps on Star Power, POTC2 and Flight School. I dont feel that same vibe from him now, its almost as if the enthusiasm has gone and he thinks he's 'made it'.
Eminem is another who I have been critical of in recent years, but what I've heard from the EP its better. G.O.A.T is one of the first Eminem songs to put a genuine smile on my face as well, he barely stops for breath when he gets going, and its hard not to enjoy that song. I'll be coming to you for the Cudi mixtape though . |

This week I will be discussing Travis Barker's Let the Drummer Get Wicked , Mac Miller's Best Day Ever and Lil Kim's Black Friday.
I also have two bonus treats at the end. Travis Barker Let the Drummer Get Wicked The highlights of this mixtape: Travis Barker Feat Lil Wayne, Game, Rick Ross, Swizz Beatz - Can A Drummer Get Some Clipse - Come N Get It J Cole Feat Travis Barker - Never Holdin Me Back Royce Da 5'9 - Detroit Lupe Fiasco Feat Travis Barker - Joaquin Phoenix Lloyd Banks Feat Fabolous, Travis Barker - Perfect Match Wiz Khalifa Feat Travis Barker - Champagne Tech N9ne - Hard Liquor Freestyle Too Short - Snap Big Sean Feat Travis Barker - Big Nut Bust Three 6 Mafia - Hard **** Xzibit - Napalm It was really hard to pin down a favorite because I enjoyed the whole mixtape but those tracks are the ones that I really like mainly because of the artists on each track. Mac Miller Best Day Ever The highlights of this mixtape are..... man very hard to pick but the one that really stood out to me was "All around the world". I think the main thing that helped him on that track is that it was a Just Blaze beat. People see him as the next big thing so his production is usually top notch but they dropped the ball on this one track "Wear my hat" that beat is straight up trash because of it's weak drums. I think it's the worst song on the album. I don't see how anyone could like that track. As others have said he basically sounds like a younger white Wiz Khalifa and if you don't like Wiz then you won't like Mac. I don't mind the whole stoner, party type vibe he has but he needs to improve his flow a bit. There are times on songs when you can tell that he's rapping off beat a bit and trying to force things to flow when it doesn't. Lil Kim Black Friday The highlights of this mixtape: Pissin' on 'em, Killing 'em with Fabolous, Black Friday, IRS Freestyle and Lights Camera Action. While listening to this mixtape it was such a breathe of fresh air compared to the dread that I just heard from Mac Miller. I also wanted to hear another official album from Kim, it reminded me of how talented she is. This mixtape contains a 12min track that explains why she is beefing with Nicki Minaj. I now understand and I take her side. The only thing about this is that Lil Kim is a pitbull compared to Nicki's little Chihuahua. Lil Kim straight up owns Nicki. I like them both but Kim is 10x better than her. Nicki Minaj is straight up garbage when compared to Kim. I think this is the best out of all of my submissions this week and worth checking out if you haven't yet.

Now time for the two bonuses I mentioned earlier.
Childish Gambino I don't know if you guys have heard this guy but I love his new EP that he just released. He's also an actor on Community. His name is Donald Glover and I didn't know he had such a great singing voice and rapping skill. I can relate to almost everything he talks about. He has this one track where he talks about individual races of girls that he talks to and how that when he gets to black chicks. They always look for someone that is "Hood" or "street" and that they make claims that he talks/acts white. I can relate to being called that myself. WTF does it mean that I talk "white"? I speak proper english so I talk white? Such ignorant bull****. That is the main reason I have never dated a black girl from my area. I'm not saying all black women are like this and I know for a fact they aren't but the ghetto chicken heads in my area are like this. Travis Barker Give the Drummer Some I normally don't review official releases in mixtape weekly but this one was too good to pass up and hence why it is a bonus. I just wanetd to show you a few of the great tracks that feature Tech N9ne, Lupe Fiasco and some others.

Be specific because they are all working for me atm. If you like flows that are a bit more relaxed/smooth. You should probably check out stoner type rappers. Edit: whoa, I completely read what you wrote wrong. I thought you were saying that you like less aggressive rappers.
