But yeah, people who have no knowledge of the band they are advertising are pretty annoying, but I can relate. =\

ah, yes, indecipherable band logos. My Last.FM band logo widget just updated today, and this logo showed up:

Guess the band.

Boris

It took me an awfully long time to figure out that it was Boris.

Same here when I first saw it a few years ago stenciled on someone's t-shirt.

Okay, I wasn't always an IDM junkie or an Avant-Garde fan.

I'm just so amused by the sub-genres that keep popping up, but Intelligent Dance Music, has got to be the most elite sounding of them all. BOC will alway mean Blue Oyster Cult in my mind, but I did enjoy the Boards clip, and though I stick to a strick regimen of death metal/black metal/grindcore/sludge metal to get me through the day, I will definitely pick up one of their cd's because they've intrigued me :)

I admit that I was a strange child when I was five, because instead of watching Caillou or Blues Clues, I thrived on Bill Nye and the space documentaries on The Discovery Channel. I was obsessed with science, and I wanted to be an astronaut. I remember sitting hours on end listening to old prog albums and reading a giant book on black holes and neutron stars, while eating cheerios with a giant smile on my face. sure, I was a hyper, violent child,(The ADHD pills fixed that) but I would still have the patience to get through a Yes album, and I loved it. My favourite album when I was little was Pink Floyd's Animals. Sheep was my favourite off of the album, and I would listen to it every day, sitting in my Pink Floyd T-shirt, and reading a 6th grade science textbook.

This is the kind of sheep music I listened to when I was five, because I didn't discover DSOTM until I was nine. I obviously wasn't as smart as you, but check out some of the great music you missed out on. lol

Ah, yes. IDM is a very badly named genre. You can't dance to it, it isn't intelligent, and judging by Aphex Twin's twisted masterpieces, it's not really musical, either. Sidewinder suggested that IDM stands for Introverted Dance Music, so I'll stick with that. Also, you should be in for some good stuff if you get a Boards Of Canada album :)

I certainly wasn't your average kid at age five. My parents doubted my sanity :p:

Zoe's Recommendations:

Okay, so the purpose of this post is two things. First off, Zoe is my IRL name. I thought I'd tell you guys as very few people actually know my name on here. The second reason is to recommend you some stuff I've been digging recently.

Zs: New Slaves

This is an odd little album, and completely different from their 2007 effort Arms. This is not an avant-garde jazz album, this is a DROOOONE album in the style of Fuck Buttons with electric guitars and saxophones. Completely awesome, completely abrasive, but also one of this year's best releases.

Zs: Arms

There's a story about Howard Stern commenting on the first opening notes of Woodworking, with him saying "it's mood music... if you're in a mental home,". I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but I love Zs, and I feel like he shouldn't put down such a good avant-jazz album. I strongly recommend this to fans of Kayo Dot.

Extra Life: Secular Works

It would make me extremely happy if just one of you guys, just one, would download this and review it for me. I love this album to death, and I would love to share it with you.

I'm downloading the Extra Life album now...and can I just say that you totally look like a Zoe...all cute, little red-heads should be named Zoe.

Dayvan Cowboy 11-03-2010 05:55 PM

Thank you very much :)

I must say that you are probably one of the nicest members on here.

Kaimon 11-03-2010 11:19 PM

Checked out a bit of Zs and searching around for the Arms. Love what I've heard so far, so I think I'll really enjoy the album :).

Also, Zoe is a really cool name. Seriously, if I got to pick my own name, that would be my second choice (Ray being the first).
