I think the video definitely adds to that 80s feeling. I'm not saying I didn't hear 80s influence prior to seeing the video, but now that I'm used to the video I almost feel the song is cheesier than it was initially.

Their first album did not have such an 80s vibe at all, it was more worldly. I guess you could argue that there's still some 80s influence though, I don't know. I just know it's not as dancey/electronic as the latest album. This is my favorite from that album (fan video):
