sidewinder's blog of random musical thoughts and obsessions
I wasn't quite sure what to call this really. The point is just to have a place for me to let it all out...the music-related thoughts that pop in my head 10,000 times a day. A random song that comes to mind, a song I can't stop obsessing over, maybe an album, or a song that is really affecting me in some way. Maybe something I feel you guys should check out. So in a sense it's kind of a catch-all, a look inside my mind perhaps. I think about music all day and every day and I'm the only one inside my head. I just want to share. I may not even say all that much in some posts, don't expect long drawn-out and detailed reviews, that's for sure. This is going to be more random and stream of consciousness in nature, and likely include a lot of YouTube videos.

Thanks Bulldog.
And now with no further delay...HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!!1!! I'm infected with punk rock running through my veins!! It's mother-farcking beer o'clock at the office, I'm jamming this fucking most excellent and infectious album by Dillinger Four (it is called Versus God), and I'm all the sudden overwhelmed by the need to consume copious amounts of ritalin!!! Holy smokes. Now I know that many of you here have no respect for pop punk. I don't care. While D4 are certainly poppy, they are most definitely not overproduced or trying to please teenage girls. They are dirty, fast and they'll kick you in the balls. You may hate the vocals. They can be an acquired taste. Not for me, I loved them the first time I heard them. This puts me in such a good mood! Thank fuck it's Friday!

I've got a mind
I've got half a mind To shut down the whole system at the spine With fishing line I'm really glad there's a grasp to grab it's only a stab in a wet paper bag is that so bad? This song popped in my head after I woke up today. I've always loved Doug Martsch's delivery of those two lines above, so moving. Aided of course by the music. Then it basically turns into a jam song. The whole thing really wouldn't be out of place on the follow-up album, Perfect From Now On. I love the mostly fun vibe of this album but I always looked forward to this song coming on as it really packs a punch for me. Built to Spill - "Stab" (There's Nothing Wrong With Love)

^ That song is brilliant man, I've never really noticed about the way he delivers those lines but I just relistened to it and you're right. His voice is a huge part of why I like Built to Spill actually.
I love Car from that album too, such a fun song to drive to, funnily enough! |

I'm definitely digging the Dillinger Four energy, reminds me of my Tony Hawks playing days. I liked all four tracks from that album.
Built to Spill seems like a band I'd be into also. I think I'll download that album, it seems pretty easy on the ears. Those were some very versified 5 minutes there. I never find myself not liking an album you recommended. I think I'll be subscribing to that journal, looking forward to see it unfold

Thanks for the comments.
This week I finally got around to checking out Yeasayer's latest album, Odd Blood. It's a shift in style but I like quite a few songs, notably this one. It's my song of the week! Interesting and intentionally cheesy 80s video. The intro to the video is rather boring and I wish it wasn't there. Song starts at 0:33.
