I will have to delve into this journal a lot more when I get time. I always appreciate people championing their homeland bands especially if they haven't had decent exposure and there are quite a few names I haven't heard before.

I didn`t realize you had a journal on here and like Jack said there are quite a few bands on here that I`ve never heard of, even though I`ve got some Vanishing Point stuff lined up to listen to.
Funnily enough, I was listening to "Siamese Dream" last night and without doubt the album is an icon of the early 1990`s with its wash of noise and delightful melodies all underpinned by Jimmy Chamberlain`s amazing drumming, the group were never the same after he left. I think that "Mellon Collie..." is even superior to this album but without doubt "Siamese Dream" is the most representative of the group. |

I think I'll go into more detail for the next few. I'm going to highlight The Whitlams next, more than likely. Quote:

![]() Band Highlight: The Whitlams (1992-present) ![]() ************************* Band Info: last.fm page Wiki page ************************* ************************* Ahh... The Whitlams... I absolutely love this band. All through school I listened to them, their piano rock/pop always saw me through everything... Now I won't go into gritty detail about the band itself, if you want to know more about them then please click on one of the links above. I just want to share some of my thoughts and experiences that I've had from listening to their great music through the years. The first time I ever heard The Whitlams was over the radio, suprisingly, as I never really bothered listening to the radio at all growing up. I was heading home from school, in a very bad mood after having such a horrible day. 'Thank You (For Loving Me At My Worst)' (I've put the amazing live performance here) was playing and I could feel myself listening and feeling instantly better. I waited in my Dads car to hear them say who they just played but they didn't say. I asked my Dad but he didn't know who they were either. I was a little bummed at discovering a song that really picked me up and then not even knowing the band it came from. I eventually rediscovered The Whitlams through a friend that played the song one day out of pure random luck, he told me who they were, and from that point on I was a devoted fan. To my surprise, after buying a few of their albums, I found The Whitlams to be very versatile. One moment they would be happy-go-lucky with bouncy catchy songs, another moment they would have a beautiful ballad here and there. They also aren't afraid to be tongue in cheek with songs like 'I Make Hamburgers'. That song is about, well, making hamburgers... and scoring chicks because they like you making hamburgers ![]() I hope you like what I've provided (forgiving YouTubes quality), This is only a sample of a very impressive catalogue. Their albums are all gold, I only wish i could provide more videos for you all. Let me know what you thought. ![]() |
