It's time to revive this now.
I had a lot of work to do lately, and I didn't want to continue before I post this short stop-motion I collaborated in, as I am kind of a short-movie/animation buff. It's nothing much, it's not really "music related", it's just something I've been trying to upload for the last 4 months, nothing too serious... So here it is finally, the long awaited Rocky Raccoon, the Story: Description Quote:
Cheers.

I like the sound of crashing glass followed by suspenseful music. I could feel the suspense. I also liked the scene of Nancy and Rocky sitting with their mugs by the frying pan, and the sound of the thunk of the pistol butt being used to nail up the "Wanted" Poster. But I am confused about one plot element: how did Rocky *know* Eldorado Jo was planning to kidnap Nancy? Rocky seems to have been jumping to conclusions there, although it is likely that in domestic violence cases a former lover escaped from prison might hunt down his partner to kidnap her, or worse. I suppose perhaps I'm looking for too much logic in a short movie that begins with a woman being rescued...from a kitten!

I- My beginnings in music 6.0 In a boring hot summer day of the year 2002, trying to entertain myself by tidying the scattered discs all over the house, I stumble on an mp3 containing the whole discography of the band: MetallicA The mp3 included all seven albums from 1983's Kill'em All to 1997's Reload, preceding the sad days of St. Anger. Plus the S&M live album, which was also a treat. So I made a list that day, wrote all the tracks divided in their different albums, and listened to the whole thing, and gave every track a rating. Having lied to the people surrounding me, as being a fan of Metallica when I only was familiar with Nothing else matters, so I won't be looked at as some other un-cool girl (I always felt boys were cooler), that was my chance to unveil the genuine metalhead in me, without the posing. As I already had the handbanging in me from listening to SoaD, getting into Metallica was a pleasant ride. Though going through the list just now, while listening to the band, I realise how "safe" my taste was. I didn't find Kill'em All to my liking, as I remember thinking in my head "Ah, they're absolutely right, it is Trash", and my favourite album was the cliché self-titled. It took me more than five years to realise how whored off these tracks have been, and got to appreciate their more underground sound of their late 80s years. But for the sake of fun, I'm going to share my dear list. Now it seems like I coloured these randomly lol. (RATING SYSTEM| Orange: I like - Red: I love - Red plus stars: These, I really gotta love) I don't know what specifically appealed to me in Metallica. James Hetfield's raw voice might've played a part in it, their powerful distorted blazing yet melodic guitars that just hit me deep in the heart, could have been another reason, along with their instrumental tracks, that were the first of the kind in my life (I even remember learning the concept of the "Instrumental Track", after hearing "The Call of Ktulu" ) also. Or maybe the simple fact of sharing a favourite band with a group of people, and maybe the feeling of belonging to some kind of group. All I know, during this summer, Metallica became (and still is for that matter) a favourite. So to share some of my favourites on here, maybe four tracks from four different albums each (not necessarily my favourite of each). Enjoy! III- In my life So I thought I'd just post my first ever short movie, made a year ago, as the first filmmaking project at uni. The teacher failed me, as in his words, I "didn't take the project seriously". Description: Originally titled [Ar]: Claudette, kif fikeh !? Wr/Dr: Melissa Chalhoub Made in 2009 Song: "Lucky" by Radiohead (album: OK Computer) Wasn't able to add subtitles translating the very brief dialogue, so here it is: Claudette: Hi Dear... I'll make us something to drink. Claudette: Mark, I made you some tea. .... Mark ... Mark... Mark.. ... Make sure you watch it with a decent volume level, as most of the editing concept is in the Audio part.... Cheers, and enjoy =D

It's quite bizarre how much our musical upbringings have in common, judgiy this thread at least. Metallica were a pretty big part of my musical childhood too or, rather, they were the first band I ever truly started caring about beyond a few songs on the radio when I was a teenager.
I pretty much never listen to them these days, especially after I started diving headfirst in the works of folks like the Beatles, Bowie, Costello, Cave, the Fall etc. There's still a lingering affection somewhere deep down though. Make no mistake - to this day, I still think this is an absolutely ace song; |

I too stopped listening to much metal ever since, however, revisiting these albums yesterday, made me realise how much I missed this genre. And yeah, before Metallica, I was a person that always repeated the absurd sentence "I love the song, and not the artist", and somehow the album as a whole didn't mean much to me -I guess I didn't want to act as some kind of sheep, loving anything piece made by some person I idolized. Btw, I never would've guessed you were a Metallica fan in the past. Nothing wrong with eclecticism . As for now, I think it's best I get familiar with the other bands of the "Big Four": Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Just to revive my passion for Metal.

Make Rust In Peace by Megadeth and of course Reign In Blood by Slayer priorities if you dont have either of those yet.
I havent listened to much Metalica for a while now but they were an absolutely huge band in my past too. I still like them, i dont care much about the hate. Kill Em All is my favourite record of theirs. Absolute quality riffage from start to end, especially in tracks like Four Horsemen and No Remorse. Im also really glad that you mentioned the S&M album because i adore that one. It came at a time where Metallica were almost metal-ing down and blues-ing up a little with Load and Reload. Their 90's output just didnt compare with their 80's material at all and so that album didnt do them much harm i dont think. It was inventive and very well executed. Classical and thrash metal isnt exactly guaranteed to mix well but the orchestra added a new dimension to both their newer material and their old favourites. And this is probably my favouritre Metallica track below. Gorgeous melodies, decent solo's and even rare lyrical strength. |

Metallica were a huge part of my teenage years. They made me grow my hair long and my Ride The Lightning t-shirt was like my second skin for a few years. I still have all my Metallica t-shirts somewhere. Most importantly they were my gateway to metal. From Metallica i moved on to Iron Maiden and Megadeth (whom i can't bear now), then Slayer, Anthrax, Mastodon, Testament and loads others.
The first album i bought was the Black Album because all i knew were 'Enter Sandman' and 'Nothing Else Matter'. Even at the time it was the heaviest thing i'd ever heard, Lars snare sound sounded so loud and huge. Shortly after that i bough ...And Justice For All and that was even heavier again! It sounded different to the Black Album, i noticed that it was less commercial and the songs were way longer. But the main thing i noticed was that the guitar tones were as heavy as f**k. When i picked up Master of Puppets, Ride The Lightning and Kill 'Em All they sealed the deal; i was a Metallibanger. Master of Puppets was the greatest thing i'd ever heard. I lived inside it for months and played it endlessly, savouring every heavy riff, every quiet instrumental passage and every wah-wah guitar solo. I never liked Load and Reload all that much apart from the odd track, they just didn't feel the same, and as for St. Anger they shouldn't have really bothered. I saw them live twice, in 2004 and 2006, and they put an incredible show on both occasions.

It's quite quaint that you went ahead and wrote down a list of all of Metallica's songs and rated them I remember people talking about them back in primary school before I knew that "Metallica" was a bandname and not an alloy... most of them had older siblings who could musically kick start them, I didn't. Nevertheless, when one of my friends first showed me Fade to Black, it blew my mind and those were the beginnings of a new metalhead. Although I don't really listen to much metal anymore, I'm still fond of Metallica. I've never been able to decide whether I prefer RTL or MOP. Kill 'Em All has always been up there too.
