I usually determine genres from their 'melodies'. Not how the lyrics are sang. David guetta definitely doesn't constitute as hip hop.

Everything constituting samplings is considered Hip Hop, and that's pretty much what DJs do. Hip hop is not pigeon held to one specific sound, like djchameleon said, and that's the greatest thing about it. -But I really don't want to call David Guetta's music Hip Hop.

However, I don't think rapping in a song makes it Hip Hop.

Hm, I'm not inclined to agree that this succeeds as a general statement. For example, I don't think you could claim in any way that Idioteque is a hip hop song, though it is a song build on samples of Paul Lansky's Mild Une Leise. Similarly, Matthew Herbert has made an entire career out of sampling music and everyday objects to create electronica/house/IDM.

I just think that it can be considered as so. What usually changes is what the artist considers himself.

Yeah, that's the main idea behind it.

I doubt that David Guetta would consider himself hip hop but he should admit to himself that some of his tracks have some hip hop influence by including rappers imo.

Right so this is the script. I'm beginning to love rap now, I'm finding it hard to find some good artists that aren't also mainstream radio artists too. I'm in love with The Game and his crowd. Also Nicki Minaj. She's better than ALOT of men rappers. Hopefully some of you lot can help me out on my quest :D.

This is little different, kind of laid back WuTang ish maybe, but check out Gangg Starr. They are the group that really got me into hip hop which was hard considering all I listen to is rock and roll.

I bring them up as they use sample very heavily and in a similar way that the game does. I am not sure who does his production though.
