Escape the Fate - The Day I Left The Womb

Last.fm is playing.
Escape the Fate is part of my library cause I own a song by them.
This song comes on.
Heartbreaking. I haven't heard the lyrics, but I can hear it in his voice.
I know it's heartbreaking.
After he left the band, they refused to play this song because it was too close to his heart to play.
The first time I played this, it wasn't in falsetto, and I ended up with tears in my eyes. I had to play it again.
Unfortunately, I'm not in the University practice room, and I'm in my bedroom at 10 49 pm.
Falsetto is the way to go with this for now.

Anyway, this song is by a band not many people are going to like, and I'm okay with that.
But when I heard this, it broke my heart, and I had to share it.

I've been trying to cover this for months now, and I finally have my voice back, no pneumonia or any allergies bringing me down.
I'd like to know what you think of the song itself, my cover is just my version.
But do you feel the same way when you listen? Or do you feel nothing?
Is it just today's "emo" music?
Or is it something you can relate to?
Being left is something I can relate to. By family members, even.
So it hits me pretty close to home.

Here it is.
[YOUTUBE]qdAZT_XifDc&hl

Edit: I don't know what it is, but I sound really muffled for some reason. It didn't sound like that when i played it on YouTube.
I'll try directing it towards me next time, but I get way too shy and it won't come out as... enthusiastic, I suppose.
>.<

About the song you posted at first, it didn't do much to me. The lyrics are very poignant obviously, but other than that, I thought he was overdoing it some times, but I guess that's what "emo" is about.
On the other hand, your vocals were much subtler, and that's why I kinda preferred your version over the original.
Still, I don't think that's one of the songs I'd be digging, but I think you should record yourself more often.
Cheers.

I'm glad you like my cover. [=
It's funny you say you like the subtler version, because I was afraid it wasn't emotional enough. :3
^_^ I think I'm going to record myself again with more emotion, I'm not sure yet, but I'll definitely do another song.
Thank you!

I really like your cover Sugar, it was very nicely done. I have listened to ETF before, and I actually like 3 songs from them - "Ashely", "Something" and "Harder Than You Know". I don't really fancy his voice in this song though... not sure what angle he was going for but much like 9, I quite actually prefer your version. I'll be looking forward to seeing some more covers by you though. Well done

Yayay! [=
It's so funny that you two say that, haha. I think his voice is perfect for the part and I felt like I wasn't filling his shoes!
Thank you for listening to my cover. <3 I know it's a little muffled, but I'm so glad you liked it. I'll definitely put up another video as soon as I find a good song for my voice.
Maybe something where I don't need falsetto! Thank you thank you thank you.

Just a little journal entry...

Setting: Laundromat.
Time: 21:30

The man who works at night is constantly playing loud music.
From Lady Gaga to whatever Opera to Pink Floyd, he listens to a variety of music.
Since I wasn't feeling the Pink Floyd tonight, I decided to listen to Coheed and Cambria on my Zune.

He saw that I was tapping to my music and asked what I was listening to.
When I told him who and what genre they were often considered, he asked if I wanted to listen to it on the big speakers.
I told him I thought it was a little dark for the laundromat, but he challenged me, and started BLASTING King Crimson.
And then asked me after a few songs if I thought it was still too dark and heavy. Even though I still thought it was, I plugged my Zune into the speakers anyway and began playing the album "No World For Tomorrow."
He liked it.
I was loving it.

Everyone was listening to the same album I had just been listening to in but one earbud.
What a good way to do laundry.

Needless to say, that guy's pretty chill.

Thank god I read this first, because I was ready to write up a big blow-hardy somethingorother that took 17 lines to say this. Thanks to Urbans punch, I'll just say "this."

All the best, Sugar, my dear.

Dear AwwSugar,

I knew from what you wrote about a song earlier in your journal that abandonment hits you hard. I had wondered what triggered this sensitivity in you. Now I know you have experienced being left. It sounds like you haven't been able to depend on some people you had yearned to have stay in your life.

Yes, I can relate to the song and the anguish of these boys who grew to be men and still feel abandoned. They still wrestle with the feeling that they are worthless because the person (parent), who should have been the most important and comforting person in their lives, was not there for them. You can hear the heartbreak in the vocals, which are nearly screamed, almost ironic, since it is obvious they are not really fine. The song reminds me of a Tracy Bonham song about "Mother, Mother."

Your version of "The Day I Left The Womb" is definitely sweeter than the original. It is hard to sing with a throat tight due to being near to tears...or when you can't sing out. I'd like to hear your full out version when you are in a practice room and not in your dorm. When I sing and start to cry, my throat clenches up and I can barely get a sound out.

I am wondering now: are you feeling lonely? Is this one reason you like music, because it fills an emotional void? You always seem so stable and secure. (You don't have to answer here! I'm just wondering out "loud.")

About abandonment: I used to feel the bereft feeling as a physical pain. Part of the palm of my left hand ached when the feeling came over me. I thought it was interesting that emotion caused a physical pain in my body...as if the emotional anguish stabbed me in my left hand, in the part of the palm that is furthest from both fingers and thumb. I would rub this aching corner of my palm, trying to make the pain go away, but of course since it was a pain caused by emotion, my emotions and not my hand were what needed healing and care. I've always wondered if anyone else feels or has felt emotion as a physical pain.

To feel left and unvalued by those you love is an awful feeling.
